the army corp of engineers wants you to avoid what little ice there is on saylorville lake... the corp issued the warning this morning... at this point... there is only ice around the edges of the lake. the corp is lowering the lake level.. and says that will make the ice unsafe once it freezes over.

are getting ready to help those who ignore ice warnings... this is video of the cedar rapids rescue team practicing today. really dont notice how cold the water is.... frequently change from spot to spot in des moines the parks are rec department flies a green flag at area lakes when the ice is safe. altoona police say a rescue wasn't an option when they arrived at a trench collapse this afternoon... 174114 - intially it came out as a rescue but once we got on scene we could tell by visual cues that this was gonna turn into a recover 30-year old justin jorgensen was installing sewer lines when the roughly 12-foot trench collapsed around. crews worked for several hours to recover his body. according to osha regulations... specials walls to prevent a collapse are required for all trenches

police say the walls were not in place when the trench gave-way. the trial of a clive man accused of killing a child could begin tomorrow... 26-year old joe lopez is charged child death... prosecutors say lopez assaulted his girlfriend's one-year old daughter at a clive apartment building in 20-14. the toddler suffered skull and rib fractures. she died five days later. police say lopez claimed the child was hurt falling out of a high chair. investigators say the injuries aren't consistent with a fall. jury selection in the case started this morning and will resume tomorrow. a murder investigation in wisconsin has gone viral... it was featured in the netflix documentary "making a murderer"... and the filmmakers now say they have proof an innocent man is behind bars... ben handelman has the story. at the manitowoc county clerk's office---

following the release of the documentary "making a murder", half the staff is now working on public document requests on the steven avery case. the documentary follows avery's court case, who spent 18 years behind bars for a rape he didn't commit-- only later to be found guilty of killing teresa halbach. the documentary implies avery was framed by law enforcement. prosecutors say it only tells one side of the story. janine geske, is a former wisconsin state supreme court justice. she says avery's only shot at a new trial, is if new evidence is discovered. this week, the documentary's filmakers say, there is a big development. on the today show, they say a former juror, claims votes were bargained for during deliberations--- possibly corrupting the outcome. geske says the courts are

decision. she says in the eyes of the court, the avery case, is likely over. that was ben handelman reporting. more than 100-thousand people have signed a petition asking pardon. the problem is... avery was the president doesn't have jurisdiction. wisconsin governor scott walker says he will not issue a pardon. south dakota is making it harder for sioux city to issue speeding tickets... according to radio-iowa.. the state is blocking sioux city police from getting the addresses of south dakota drivers caught on automated speed cameras. without the address sioux city can't mail the ticket. the change is in response to a new south dakota law banning police from sharing vehicle information with private companies. sioux city police were blocked because the private company redflex runs the speed cameras. are you iowa's newest multi- millionaire... grab your ticket and

successful hydrogen bomb test." still, the detonation at an underground facility is the fourth by north korea since 2006, all in gross violation of international law and prior nuclear agreements with the west. most nuclear analysts share the administration's doubt that north korea has developed an h- bomb. however, some are concerned that pyongyang appears to be making worrisome progress in its nuclear program, including the possibility of advancements in building a device small enough to deploy on a missile. and north korea has developed a missile capable of reaching as far as the west coast of the u-s. "if you can add a little hydrogen isotope to your basic atomic bomb you can have less material in it, make it smaller and this would help north korea fit it on the warhead of a missile. that's what they're going for. it doesn't look like they got there." president obama spoke with the presidents of south korea and japan today about the nuclear test. the white house says its in the process of coordinating a global response.

president's only worry... his domestic programs are also under fire... after more than a dozen attempts.. today the u-s house approved a bill to repeal portions of the affordable care act. the measure was already approved by the senate and now goes to the president's desk... where a veto is expected. the obama administration's decision to reject the keystone oil pipeline is also being challenged. the developer filed a lawsuit today saying the president doesn't have the authority to block the project. the pipeline would have carried oil more than 12-hundred miles from canada to texas. iowa national guard soldiers deployed to missouri are back home tonight... and they were greeted with high- fives at camp dodge in johnston. the soldiers were deployed to the town high ridge were flooding knocked out the water treatment plant. iowa soldiers spent five days purifying more than a half-million gallons of water for the entire town. 01:17-01:27 it was amazing, i've been in the military 13 years and i've never seen residents more helpful and more thankful for what we did. it was
