a record 800-million dollar powerball jackpot is up for grabs tonight. iowans hoping to strike it rich are snapping up tickets so fast, the lottery ran out of printer paper at some locations. channel 13's justin surrency spoke with one of iowa's past powerball

the demand for powerball tickets is reaching mind blowing levels in iowa.... "tickets in iowa were selling at about $6,800 a minute for powerball."the dream of hitting the largest lottery jackpot in north american history ... hospital with a skull fracture and broken ribs in november of 20-14. lopez claims she fell out of the high chair. prosecutors say that explanation doesn't add up. sot 1: "these radiologists will tell you that they have never come across a case where a child fell from what they refer to in the medical community as a ground level fall. it would be like me falling down right here. this is a ground level fall. never seen injuries like this, specifically, never seen that type of bleeding on the brain before, but most importantly never in their entire careers, ever had a child die from that." sot 2: "in no uncertain terms, it's the defense's position that this was a fall from a high chair, with an unusually rigid kitchen flooring. flooring made out of concrete." jurors heard opening statements

the trial resumes monday morning. an indianola man is in custody facing terrorism charges... police say 21-year old trey sudbrock tried to buy a gun so could "kill a lot of people." he is charged with one count of threatening terrorism. sudbrock was already charged with one count of animal his former girlfriend's dog. a newton pastor set out to do a good deed, but ended up in the emergency room after being hit by a suspected runk driver. cory stout is now home recovering. on wednesday, he was helping a stranded driver on the side of the road, when police say a drunk driver hit him. the impact threw stout -- resulting in several stitches to his head and injuring his shoulder. stout is the lead pastor of community heights alliance church. he plans to preach a message of

540802 - i dont want know whats going on in his life, what forms of pain hes enduring or what would cause him to turn to alcohol but our prayer is that he would turn from that and come to see that there is hope police say 19 - year - old rey kahlil of west des moines was behind the wheel. he is charged with o -w- i but has bonded out of the jasper county jail. a rescue dog... turned police k-9 is getting a lot of attention for his first drug bust. the ankeny department adopted bosco last year. the community raised 30-thousand dollars to bring the black lab from a shelter in indiana. bosco joined the force in november... and has been training ever since... and he was trained well... on his first call out... he discovered 40-pounds of marijuana. ankeny police say that's worth about 122-thousand dollars on the streets. bosco shared this on his very own instagram account earlier this week...the caption reads, "i love my job."

recapping this morning's top story... tonight's 800 million jackpot is the largest in powerball history... so many people are getting tickets, the lottery ran out of printer paper at some locations. over the years, eight lucky iowans have won the powerball jackpot, including one family in bondurant who are using it to give back to their community. you can buy a ticket for tonight's drawing up until 8-59. the u-s drug enforcement administration is congratulating mexico for recapturing notorious drug lord joaquin "el chapo" guzman. el chapo is now behind the same

months ago. mexican marines, the u-s dea and u-s marshalls captured him friday as he tried to escape in a vehicle during a government raid. guzman could be tried in the united states, but the process could take months. the head of a drug cartel in mexico had escaped from prison another time before back in 2001. an urgent warning to law enforcement after a gunman tried to kill a police officer in philadelphia. police say the suspect confessed to the shooting in the name of the islamic state... isis. steve patterson has the latest. these chilling surveillance images show the moment a gunman dressed in traditional white arab robe opened fire on a philadelphia police officer at point blank range, shooting at least 11 times. graphic #1 officer hartnett: shots fired. 6-0 and spruce. i'm shot. i'm bleeding

hartnett was hit three times in the arm. as the gunman ran away, he kept shooting.. but the officer managed to follow and returned fire. graphic #2 dispatcher: all cars standby. we have an officer shot, 6-0 and spruce. the suspect was taken into custody a block away. graphic #3 officer: i do have a male suspect in custody, and a gun out here recovered. the surveillance video does not show the circumstances leading up to the shooting... but officials say it was completely unprovoked. police identified the suspect as edward archer.. and said he confessed that the shooting was inspired by islam. archer also pledged his allegiance to the islamic state. commissioner: he's confessed to committing to this cowardly act in the name of islam according to him he believes the police defend laws contrary to the teachings of the qur'an. graphic archer is 30-years-old -- from just outside philadelphia. he has a prior arrest for aggravated assault -- but despite his confession -- no known links to terrorism. law enforcement sources say the fbi is looking at archer's phone and

sorensen with a major decision. iowa rolls over the illini 26-12 the greatest football player in iowa state history now has a spot right alongside the best players of all-time. the wait is finally over, troy davis now a member of the college football hall of fame. announced today by the national football foundation davis is one of 16 players or coaches, who will be inducted in to the class of 2016. davis played at iowa state from 1994-96 running all over opponents. he's the only player in division 1 history to rush for over 2-thousand yards twice. davis led the nation in rushing as a sophomore and junior. a 2-time heisman trophy finalist, t-d records in rushing yards, all-purpose yards, 200 yard games and rushing touchdowns. davis is the 2nd cyclone player inducted in to the hall of fame, the other, ed bock who played in the 1930's. in a statement released today davis says, quote. "i am extremely honored and humbled to be inducted in to the

yesterday, the salvation army opened its new thrift store on merle hay road in des moines. its the largest salvation army store in the state. it will be stocked with 5-to-10- thousand items every day... and all sales help support the charity's numerous programs. roads became very slick late last night as temperatures dropped below freezing and all of the wet roads from yesterday's rain and drizzle froze up. this morning, the city of des moines has done a good job of getting down salt on city roads to help make driving conditions better, although you still may come across a few slick
