firefighters were called to a trailer home in montrose - a town along the mississippi river... the trailer was wrapped in fire. one man escaped. paramedics took him by air ambulance to iowa city with severe burns and cuts. firefighters found the body of three victims inside the home. officials are not releasing their names at this time. the state fire marshal's office is investigating what caused the fire. the cold weather is spurring random acts of kindness... downtown community alliance captured this picture at seventh and locust. a box was sitting on the sidewalk, full of gloves and hand warmers... it's not clear who left the box there... the items were in demand... it was all gone by noon. and even wildlife looking for a break from the cold. the iowa dnr snapped this photo earlier today. the deer is peaking inside the manchester field office... many of us were rushing to get out of the cold too... but a warm-up is in sight... chief meteorologist ed wilson join us now...

the holidays have come and gone, but the season of giving is here to stay.. flooding at water works park last month forced jolly holiday lights to close. the fundraiser typically raised about 250-thousand dollars for make a wish iowa. the community answered their call for help. today, a west des moines company donated to the grant wishing organization. businessolver presented make a wish with a 10-thousand dollar check. 11:28:05 make a wish is very humbled by the outpouring of support from the community. never in our wildest dreams did we think through a catastrophe that was the flooding of jolly holiday lights this great story would come about 18 so far, the bring the jolly campaign has raised 484-thousand dollars

"he had a lot of doors slammed in his face." joe spent seven years in federal prison for selling drugs. the result of bad choices and hanging out with the wrong people. "being locked up helped me be a better person." when the cell door opened, so did another opportunity. "that's the big thing with joe. he got a second chance, and he ran with it." "joe gomez found a future with food here at scott community college. that's where the culinary arts program helped to turn his life around" chef brad scott guided a remarkable transformation over the next three years. under the federal managed apprenticeship program, brad taught joe while joe also worked in local restaurants.
