jimmy fallon! [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: welcome. welcome. thank you very much. welcome. [ cheers and applause ] that's what you want. that's what we're talking about right there. welcome to "the tonight show," everybody. [ cheers and applause ] that's what we get. you get that. the best crowd in the world. i'm your host, jimmy fallon. what a show tonight. we have khloe kardashian on the show tonight. [ cheers ] we also have danny devito on the show tonight. [ cheers and applause ] which explains this episode's title, "looking up at the kardashians."
[ laughter ] guys, welcome. of course, let's get to the news here. the big story is that president obama gave his final state of the union address last night. yeah. he started by saying he would give a shorter speech, and maybe it's just me, but that seemed to get the most applause of the night. check it out. >> for this final one, i'm going to try to make it a a little shorter. [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: even michelle -- even, michelle, yeah, she loves it, yeah. obama said he would give a a shorter speech, and then wound up speaking for 59 minutes. [ laughter ] not surprising, obama saying he's going to keep it short is like donald trump saying, "enough about me." [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] "four billion. i'm a human powerball." [ laughter ] during his speech, president obama criticized companies for not being loyal enough to their employees.
but they were busy buying powerball tickets so they could quit their job. [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause ] "i'm not that loyal. bye!" >> steve: bye! >> jimmy: bye, steve! "i'm going to be on an island, dude, that i own." yeah. [ laughter ] did you see this? at one point, while obama was talking about the economy, joe biden leaned over to house speaker paul ryan and whispered something that they both laughed about. biden said it was a private joke between two statesmen, while ryan said, "he just whispered the word 'boobs.'" [ laughter and applause ] grow up. why would you do that? it's the state of the union. it's his last one, the last one. you don't have to do that. that's right, it was obama's seventh and final state of the union address, and because it was the last one, they decided to end it in a special way, which kind of surprised me. take a look at this. >> the state of our union is strong. don't don't don't don't don't you forget about me will you stand above me
never love me rain keeps falling rain keeps falling down [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: "the bachelorette." the new "bachelorette." >> steve: wow. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: here's the latest on the election. new polls found that bernie sanders is now ahead of hillary clinton among democrats in both iowa and new hampshire. and even hillary's lead in national polls is dwindling. i don't want to say hillary is upset, but this morning she was spotted shouting into a a volcano, "you said we had a a deal!" [ laughter and applause ] that's right. bernie is really picking up some momentum. in fact, yesterday, he received an endorsement from the progressive website, moveon.org. as opposed to jeb bush who was endorsed by the website, noseriouslymoveon.org. [ laughter and applause ] no seriously, totally different website. check this out, i read that the shirt that el chapo wore in his
apparently is flying off the shelves at the store that makes it in los angeles. take a look at this shirt. yeah. [ laughter ] that looks less like a drug lord and more like mario if he became a hairdresser. [ laughter ] doesn't it look like that? [ applause ] "it's-a me!" >> steve: "it's-a me! el chapo!" >> jimmy: "i'll just take a a little off the top." [ laughter ] can we see that picture one more time? look at this. [ laughter ] is it me, or does el chapo look like a guy who lives in hollywood and sean penn looks like a dude who's on the run? [ laughter and applause ] got the beard. well, this is great. an 88-year-old grandmother tried out virtual reality for the first time. and she was pretty impressed. check this out. >> down, left, right. >> oh, my goodness. oh! oh! [ laughter ]
ah! [ laughter and applause ] >> jimmy: then she took off the goggles and went, "it's aight." [ laughter ] she was going crazy. i guess it was set up to make her feel like she was in a car going 25 miles per hour. "ahh! ohh!" we have a great show, everybody. give it up for the roots. [ cheers and applause ] [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: that sounds fantastic. thank you for that, roots. it's been a great week so far. there's more ahead. tomorrow night, democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton will be here! [ cheers and applause ] plus, lucy liu and music from flo rida. [ cheers and applause ] that's tomorrow night. then, on friday, we have
brandi carlile, and thank you notes. [ cheers and applause ] you don't want to miss that on friday. but first, we have a fun, fun show tonight. he's such a great actor, director, producer, one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. from "it's always sunny in philadelphia," danny devito is here. [ cheers and applause ] he's a legend! one of my all-time faves. he's so -- he's the most fun human being. danny and i are going to play charades with some surprise guests later in the show. [ cheers ] also, joining us tonight, she's a reality tv star, best-selling author and now a talk show host. khloe kardashian is dropping by tonight. [ cheers and applause ] and making his first appearance on our show, we have music from the one and only colin hay, ladies and gentlemen. [ cheers and applause ] "next year people." i'm in a great mood tonight.
the state of the union address. and as i watched it, one thing i noticed is that president obama has a very expressive face, you know? it's true. especially if you look at photos of him. you know, it's like he has thousands of different facial expressions, one for every occasion. now, you all know the classics like this one from the state of the union. this is called "the determined, yet hopeful." [ laughter ] but there's a lot more than that you just don't see as often, which means it's time for another edition of "obama expressions." here we go. [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: this first lesser-known expression is from a recent town hall event. take a look. this is called the "you know how i do." [ laughter and applause ] take a look at this next obama expression. this is from a recent white house meeting. this is the "staring contest, go." [ laughter and applause ] "i got you. you blinked." here's another lesser-known obama expression. [ laughter ]
ceo summit. this is the "psst, check it out, human grumpy cat." >> steve: wow. [ laughter and applause ] that's very expressive. >> jimmy: these are fantastic. you don't see them as much. >> steve: you don't see that every day. >> jimmy: no, take a look at the next one. this is from a recent meeting with the handsome new canadian prime minister, justin trudeau. this is the "i must paint you." [ laughter and applause ] you don't see that. >> steve: you don't see that. >> jimmy: the next expression is a little less common. check out this one. this is the "why are these cheesecake factory menus so damn big?" [ laughter and applause ] "too many appetizers." >> steve: "33 pages of appetizers!" >> jimmy: check out this next expression. you can tell what this one means. this is the "so, how was your tinder date?" [ laughter and applause ] "spill the t." take a look at this next one. this is obama waiting to speak before a recent climate change summit.
sometimes you're just too real." [ laughter and applause ] >> steve: she got him. >> jimmy: she got him good. next expression is an interesting one. you don't see it often. this is the "when bae don't text back right away." [ laughter and applause ] that's when bae -- yeah. [ light laughter ] here's another one. this is president obama from a a recent press briefing. this is the "you ever think about what's in a hotdog?" [ laughter and applause ] "you ever think about it? lots of things in there. don't want to eat." >> steve: "you don't want to know." >> jimmy: "don't want to know what's in a hotdog. there you are at the ball game, you're eating your hot dog. you're on your -- you're on your fourth hotdog. enjoy it." [ laughter ] check out this next expression. it's obama drinking a coffee. this is the "damn barista spelled my name bjork o'bubba." [ laughter and applause ] it's not their job to know your name. they just hear and they write.
write. >> jimmy: and finally, take a a look at this last obama expression. look at obama's face here. this is the "ew!" [ laughter and applause ] there you go. those are tonight's "obama expressions." we'll be right back with more of "the tonight show." how much internet speed does one family actually need? ballpark. to answer your question, i assembled a similar family unit. we have centurylink internet. they offer a range of speeds. for us, 40 megs works great. with that, you can download an hd movie or tv show in minutes and songs in seconds. which is a good thing, because my pretend family is not big on waiting. get up to 40 meg centurylink internet for $20 a month for a year when bundled with a qualifying home phone plan. 12 month contract required.

you got people working incredibly long hours. median family income today -- $4,000 less than it was in 1999. the bottom line of this economy is that it is rigged. what this campaign is about is to demand that we create an economy that works for all of us rather than a handful of billionaires. if you work 40 hours a week in america, you should not live in poverty.
"overkill," with a little help from the roots, please welcome colin hay. [ cheers and applause ] i can't get to sleep i think about the implications of diving in too deep and possibly the complications especially at night i worry over situations i know will be all right perhaps it's just imagination day after day
night after night my heartbeat shows the fears
ghosts appear and fade away alone between the sheets only brings exasperation it's time to walk the streets smell the desperation at least there's pretty lights and though there's little variation it nullifies the night from overkill day after day reappears night after night
