first on 13... this morning, we're waiting to find out jackpot. but do we know there are at least 3 powerball winners, in 3 different states. each had a ticket bearing these the powerball, 10. hills! one of the winners bought the ticket from a 7 eleven in chino hills, california. there were also winners in florida and tennessee. that means they'll have to split the jackpot of a billion and a half dollars... and after taxes, that amounts to about 300 million each. iowans may have missed the big prize, but they still managed to win big. of the state's nearly 225-thousand tickets, one was good for 2 million. 3 were worth 100 thousand
6:03 am
and financial experts say even those prizes come with a risk... you're definitely gonna wanna have a tax repairer or cpa, you'll probably wanna have an attorney and you're probably gonna wanna have some kind of a financial planner. experts warn against taking the lump sum because it's harder to stay financially responsible. the iowa d-n-r is investigating what could be two cases of illegally killing wolves. officials say a hunter shot and killed what he believed to be a coyote in northwest iowa... that was in november. then the following month, a similar incident happened in the southeastern part of the state. d-n-a from both animals is being tested to determine what type of animals they are. hunting coyotes is legal in iowa, but wolves are a protected species found only occasionally here in iowa. the trial of a clive murder

26-year old joe lopez is charged with killing his girlfriend's daughter. the one year old suffered a skull fracture and broken ribs. the judge declared a mistrial after the girl's mother claimed lopez raped her during their relationship. the defense says it could have potentially influenced the jury's decision... the general motion with regard to every witness limiting what they can and cannot appropriately say in the presence of a jury. both sides do their best to caution every witness to comply with that order. and i'm absolutely certain that was done by the prosecutors in this case. despite that fact things get mentioned anyway and that's what happened here. lopez will remain in custody until his next trial. that's tentatively scheduled for may second. des moines police are searching for a gunman in a north side shooting.

morning... 45 year old jerome johnson junior says another driver shot him after he got lost in the neighborhood. johnson was hit in the shoulder and police say he's expected to survive. a waukee family is using a tragedy to help troubled teenagers... we want to encourage who is struggling with thoughts of suicide to reach out for help immediately. seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. the lienemann family is still reeling from the loss of their son, drew. the 18 year old attempted suicide on saturday, and died 2 days later. doctor's say it's part of an alarming trend in the young generation.. suicide is the number 2 leading cause of death for iowans age 15 to 34. that, coupled with the closing of 2 state mental hospitals, lead some to think the issue isn't getting enough attention.

things we are very far off from where we need to be and we need that support not only from a financial perspective, a legislative perspective. the "your life iowa" program provides a hotline for anyone who is suicidal. the numbers to call and text are posted on our website, "who tv dot com." only one police officer is patrolling the streets of melcher dallas. and that officer is part time. it comes after 4 full time officers abruptly resigned tuesday night... and city leaders are refusing to say what lead to the resignations. last night, they held a meeting to decide what to do about the issue. much of the discussion focused on hiring new officers... we will lose the personal touch when we don't have our own department, citizens don't have somebody they can call and feel comfortable calling because you just don't see an officer that often in town. until leaders decide what to do, marion county deputies will
