another big game on monday... and students are proving again they'll do just about anything for some of the best seats. it's friday january 22nd.. today in iowa starts now.... light snow is moving across the state this morning leading to some slick spots on the roads. under 1" of new snow is possible by 10 am. those clouds will begin to clear by late this afternoon hours, but temperatures will still be a few degrees cooler and in the middle 20s. clouds will quickly clear by early saturday and temperatures will be a bit nicer as well. we'll see the lower 30s for saturday afternoon and the upper 30s on sunday, which will help melt a bit of the lingering snow cover. by monday a new system will move in and bring in chances for light snow. i-80/35 @ meredith i-235 @ 42nd
dwindling this morning and it has candidates pulling out all the stops. first on 13... the days until caucus are dwindling this morning and it the stops. but one emerging group is trying to get more people to show up... historically been one of the least involved groups for caucusing... in 2012 just over one thousand iowa latinos participated... now community leaders say that's having a harmful effect... presidential candidates aren't making them a priority. so the league of united latino make a change... since 2007, they've doubled the amount of iowa latinos registered to vote want all latinos to have it marked on their calendar.
the way our community celebrates dia de los muertos or 3 kings day or mothers day and father's day...we want you to make iowa caucuses part of your culture." this year the group hopes to have at least ten thousand latinos caucusing.... here's a look at the campaign trail today... mike huckabee and ben carson make a total of nine stops through the state... carson will be at drake this evening... for a b-e-t town hall. meanwhile a new poll shows a shake up at the top... the cnn poll has bernie sanders sitting on top. with 51-percent of the vote.. he holds an eight point lead over hillary clinton. that's the biggest lead any major poll has given sanders since early september. has given sanders since early september. on the republican side, it shows donald trump with a double digit lead in iowa.. he brings in 37-pecent.

"im going to stand up and defend the people of iowa and the jobs of this state, im proud of that. im not taking sides in the campaign but i think iowans need to know where the candidates stand on issues that are important to this state.' during the iowa renewable fuels summit, branstad said iowa should caucus against cruz.... because he supports his texas oil friends over iowa ethanol producers... congressman steve king then called the governor's comment false while campaigning for cruz... he says cruz does support renewable fuels and introduced a broader plan to eliminate petroleum subsidies. king also worries branstad's first in the nation status... governor branstad won't. meanwhile a school funding fight continues for the governor... branstad outlined his education
education meeting yesterday. he says he's committed to pushing iowa's education system forward. that includes raising private funds for summer projects to make sure every 3rd grader is literate. a bill to increase the state's school funding is working its way through the statehouse... republicans support a two percent increase... democrats want four. steve prohm says he knows how to motivate the cyclones for another win... :00 - :08 you gotta be ready to play... if i gotta put a picture of hilton in the locker room to show the guys, i'll do that the cyclones are on the road tomorrow... they take on tcu -- the big 12's lowest ranked team. tip off is set for 3 o'clock. cyclone fans on the other hand are already looking ahead to monday... big monday! students have already started lining up outside hilton coliseum for monday's big game against kansas. that is where we find josh this morning.

today... jerry dillinger of thayer faces two counts of first degree murder... last month authorities found the body of dillinger's ex- sister-in-law in a farm pond near lorimor. as they were investigating... they found a second body nearby... dillinger's arraignment is this morning in union county court. iowa's latino community is trying to grow its role in picking the next president... leaders say just one-thousand latinos caucused in 2012... and that's causing candidates to overlook them this time around. iowa's latino american organization wants to make a change for 2016. they're aiming for 10-thousand latinos to make the caucus. from the southeast to the northeast... several states are expecting to get slammed by snow. and officials say they are preparing for the worst. more than 85-million people are waiting for a blizzard that's predicted to bring up to two-feet of snow in some areas. crews are bringing truckloads of salt solution to pre-treat roads. washington, d-c... baltimore... and philadelphia are forecast to get
