hold strong at your caucus because america is looking for a new leader. america is scanning the horizon. we can not be this fed up with our gridlocked, dysfunctional congress and think old ideologies are going to move us forward. caucus goers will choose their preferred candidate on february first. a new poll shows just how close the iowa caucus could be... the "iowa state and w-h-o h-d" poll puts hillary clinton on top, but barely. clinton received a little more than 47 percent support. bernie sanders received 45. that's within the poll's margin of error. martin o'malley is a distant third, stuck in the single digits. the poll has ted cruz leading the republican race. a poll released just minutes ago shows donald trump with a slight lead in iowa. the "quinnipiac poll" has trump with 31 support among likely caucus goers.

marco rubio comes in at third, with 13. no other candidate received double digit support. candidates on both sides are trying to make headway in caucus crunch time... nine of them will make nearly 3 dozen stops combined throughout the state. the republicans include rick santorum, marco rubio, carly fiorina, ted cruz... mike huckabee, donald trump, and ben carson. two thirds of the democrats will be here, hillary clinton and bernie sanders. the candidates' efforts won't do any good if iowans don't show up to caucus... and one of the reasons keeping them home is just not understanding the process. channel 13's josh nguyen joins us live from des moines to spell it all out for you... josh, good morning! democratic caucus: it's an open process where you as the caucus-goer physically and

a "house judiciary subcommittee" approved the proposal yesterday... i t would allow children of any age to use handguns under the supervision of parents or guardians. the current law requires them to be at least 14 years old. a similar bill last session gained little support in the democratic controlled senate. today an autopsy will try to determine how a prominent des moines architect died. 62 year old kirk blunck was found dead in an east village building his firm... are responsible for several historic renovations in the city. police say investigating whether his death was an accident or a criminal act. police say alcohol may have been crash... 38 year old james tackett crashed into this business over the weekend. police say a 5 year old girl was in the back seat at the time... she was taken to the hospital and tackett died at the scene. the crash remains under

des moines police are trying to figure out how a bus crashed into a home... i just freaked out. i started just bawling and i couldn't believe it. i was in shock i think. a dart bus went through janet brown's living room on cambridge avenue... it happened last night when brown was doing the dishes in the other room. she wasn't injured, but the bus driver and a passenger were treated for injuries. police suspect a medical condition may have caused the crash. snowy and slick conditions may be giving you the winter blues... but the iowa state fair is encouraging warm thoughts. it opens on august 11th, just 198 days away. dierks bently already has plans to be there. the country musician will perform at the grandstand august

we're hearing from a des moines school employee accused of abusing a student. it all started with this video... police say it shows bus attendant ruby taylor pinning a student in his seat and pushing his head into a window. the district fired taylor and bus driver terri brown after seeing the video. both filed for unemployment. the administrative judge overseeing the case wanted answers... did you press your body up against his. yes. is that appropriate? no i guess not. the judge ruled both employees violated school policy and denied them benefits. the city of des moines is

this morning, cyclone fans are celebrating a comeback on the court... the first half at hilton coliseum didn't look so good against kansas. iowa state never lead, and the jay hawks went into break ahead by 7. but the second half was a completely different story... the clones claw their way back to even and then pull away. they outscore kansas 49 to 29 for a victory of 85 to 72. iowa state has now beaten the current number 1, 3, and 4 teams in ames. we gave them 29 points in the second half. we held them right at the 40 percent mark. we really played a complete half the last 15 minutes. so, proud of these guys, just gotta take tomorrow off, just gotta keep building. had a conference
