"po-90fr santorum this is, we're going to actually should be commander in chief, who should country. i think iowans will take that responsibility seriously." rick santorum won the caucuses four years ago... the frontrunners this year, are donald trump, and ted cruz. republican candidate senator rand paul is touring the state leading up to the caucuses. stephanie moore caught up with him in knoxville... pkg- steph intro- senator paul held his rally this morning at the national sprint car hall of fame and museum which alined perfectly with the theme of today's event--racing to the finish line... and paul is hoping to

youth vote along the way... pkg- "one issue that is important and big for them is the right to be left alone the right to privacy, the right to not having the government collecting all their phone records,s so i think the fact that i've been the leading spokesman for saying that government shouldn't be involved in indiscernibly collecting our records has given us a foothold on campus.' the kentucky senator also talked about his christian conservative values and says unlike some of the other candidates he thinks the people should be in charge of the economy with a small government taking a back seat.... "i think people are frustrated with washington and so am i and in their frustration they're looking for an easy way out and right now donald trump is the easy way out, give him the power and he will fix things but i worry about a donald trump accumulating so much power that it would be used to take away our freedoms.. it's a message that resonates with jean newman.... "all that's necessary is for his message to get out to the people and the people are going to latch onto it because people want liberty more than anything else, they don't want to be bound by the chains of government, liberty is the antithesis of that." newman feels so strongly he drove his corvette which he

his support and is following paul around the country..... "i drove it up here and i'm going to take it to every rand paul event for the next two, three days." tag-paul is continuing his push across the state, he still has 12 scheduled events leading up to his victory party monday night.. back in 20-12, newman had his car wrapped in support of ron paul. when he found out rand was running he had it re-done. donald trump is not in iowa.. he's on the campaign trail in new hampshire... trump told supporters that skipping the rpublican debate in des moines - in his words - "turned out great." he decided to hold a benefit for veterans at drake university. trump said it raised six million dollars... much of that will go to the puppy jake foundation... an iowa organization that trains service dogs for veterans. trump also said, without him at the debate, the candidates attacked

said no one questioned cruz on being born in canada.. ted cruz may not be a us citizen. right? he's an anchor baby, no he's an anchor baby - ted cruz is an anchor baby in canada. but canada doesn't accept anchor babies, they just waited a long time. okay. but look. it is a problem for him by the way. i think that's one of the reasons he's crashing. trump holds three events in eastern iowa tomorrow... bernie sanders and hillary clinton are running neck and neck in the state. the democrats criss-crossed the state today... conincidently they were both in dubuque today. as they try to set themselves apart... much of their message is the same... get out and caucus. po-106fr "and if you will go to the caucus for me on monday, i promise you if you stand up for me monday night, i will stand up and fight for you as hard as i can for the next four years.po-97fr 28 "on monday night, i hope you were come out. i hope that you

scott co democrats chair 35:41 if you're not on our list you'll need to register, so i don't know that there would be benefit in registering early monday morning. but don't worry it can all be done at your caucus site. john ortega/ scott co republicans vice chair 46:52 if they have been in the past but aren't registered now you can register there and you don't have to have an id.:57 you heard that correctly...no i-d is required to caucus. you'll simply fill out a registration form declaring your party and include some basic information. 40:21 either their last four digits of their social security number or their drivers licenses.:24 the process may be easy -- but it should not be taken lightly. roxanna moritz/ scott county auditor 41:11 remember you're signing a legal document that says that you are attesting that all of this to be true to the best of your knowledge :17 the caucuses are not run by the auditors office...but they do collect voter information. 40:24 when we collect all that data from the parties we'll process them :27 and so if someone were maybe not be quite so truthful, that's where we would find out if they committed a fraud. :34 the scott county auditors offices says they find a handful of people each year that have committed voter

there are a lot of visitors in des moines this week from across the nation and around the world... but one of them is here to stay... today the republic of kosovo and the state of iowa solidified their relationship as "sister cities" with the opening of a kosovar consulate in des moines. this is a big deal for iowa, because it's the first international consulate the state has ever hosted. iowa began its relationship with kosovo in 2011 when the iowa national guard partnered with the kosovo security force.. since then, iowa national guardsmen and women have been to the eastern european country for a variety of projects. the republic of kosovo says iowa was the perfect location for a consulate because of that strong partnership and the ease of doing business in the state. governor terry branstad says des moines is now truly an "international city." 12:34:04 "we simply are delighted to be here for this very first consulate that any country has had in iowa, in

before the bigger system early next week, we will see a chance for a rain/snow mix early sunday. this is not expected to bring significant impacts but could create some slick caucus goers, monday looks to be dry 30s...it's not until tuesday that we will see strong winds and moderate to heavy snow move in. at this point snow we could see snow starting to fall as early as monday night, which means snow will likely impact the morning commute. it is still a bit early to put out exact snow totals, but it is possible that many places across the area will see amounts approaching or exceeding 6". on top of that wind will also be a huge issue with this next system which means visibility will be next to nothing at times. be sure to stay informed over the next several days as we continue to bring you the latest updates. girl scouts will soon be out,
