>> that's what's making news in america this morning. >> overnight, a security threat in new jersey. what first responders found in a garbage can and why it's raising so many red flags in a weekend that already saw multiple attacks. >> a house catches fire overnight and firefighters have to shut down roads. the battle to contain that fire and the investigation into how it started. >> but first, weather watch 12 as we take a live look outside. a dry start to the day. but some rain is on the horizon. we're tracking when you'll want an umbrella. >> good morning and "welcome to wisn 12 news this morning." i'm ben wagner. >> and i'm melinda davenport. it's 4:30 on this monday, august 19th. -- september 19th. let's start with the forecast. meteorologist sally severson is in the weather center.

>> i don't blame you and summer is not going any where, high today 84. storms are rolling in after 3:00. some could be on the strong side. and we are wet again with spotty rain and storms wednesday through sunday and we are turning cooler toward the end of the week. watching the cool front as it is moving through later today. it is a focus for showers and a few storms. we warm up quickly for today. between now and noon, mostly sunny skies and increasing late morning and afternoon clouds. the temperatures are climbing up to the 70s. cloudy and warm. we are watching the radar this afternoon as the rain and storms are developing near and along the cool front. >> when you're on the go, take the weather watch 12 forecast

it's free for your smartphone or tablet. wisn 12 news time now is 4:32. >> developing overnight, explosives found in a new jersey trash can. this is now the third community rocked by this type of crime in recent days. tim, five suspicious devices were found overnight. >> one of them blew up while police were trying to disarm it. this overnight discovery happened in elizabeth, new jersey. that's just south of newark. authorities found the five and a pipe coming from a package. no one was hurt. on saturday morning, a bomb went off before a charity race in seaside park, new jersey. then later in the day, a bomb exploded in new york city's chelsea neighborhood injuring 29 people. a second device that did not explode was found a few blocks away. the fbi is investigating whether all of these incidents are related.

questioned in connection with the new york city blast. melinda, back to you. >> tim, thank you. >> now to another scare over the weekend, nine people survived a stabbing attack at a shopping mall in st. cloud, minnesota. the fbi is investigating the crime as a possible act of terrorism. the 22-year-old suspect reportedly referenced allah before attacking shoppers. he was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer. isis is claiming responsibility. look for updates on all of these developing stories today on "gmo starting at 7:00 a.m. >> new from overnight, streets in a milwaukee neighborhood are back open after a house fire. it was reported just before midnight near 53rd and custer. this is video from the scene. police tell wisn 12 news the property was vacant. no injuries have been reported. investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started. >> right now, police are searching for the person who crashed into a squad car in oak creek. it happened yesterday morning outside of a motel near i-94 and

a witness recorded this video. a motel guest tells wisn 12 news that the driver rammed into a police suv several times. there was a police dog inside the squad car at the time. we're told police tried to break that car's windows but the driver was able to get away. people staying at the hotel say they're concerned this crime could lead to others. >> there's tons of kids here, so are they going to come back tonight. are they going to be in a drive-by shooting here because they guy is armed supposedly? >> here's another look at the car. it's a blue dodge charger with the license plate 507-tyr. those plates have been reported stolen. >> it's been more than a month since unrest broke out in sherman park. it started with a fatal police shooting and led to

now, the neighborhood is focusing on rebuilding. a group led tours of the neighborhood yesterday showing their work to revitalize the area over the last eight years. they call it the new life in sherman park tour. the group common ground has been working for nearly a decade to rehab dozens of homes in the neighborhood. >> looking ahead now, a panel discussion is set for today at city hall. the peace for change alliance organized the forum called black lives matter, blue lives matter, all lives matter. state na be part of the panel along with the president of the police association and county supervisor deanna alexander. it starts at 6:00 p.m. >> looking ahead, to a big honor for a local high school. a hartford marching band is making a big announcement today about some new year's plans. the band from hartford union high school is being invited to march in london's new year's day parade in january 2018. british officials will be in hartford today to deliver a

with periods of rain and a few storms and going up to 84 before the rain falls. the temperatures early 59 waukesha. 57 elk horn. 65 mitchell international. the skies are fair. the clouds are filling in late morning and into the afternoon. ben? >> new this morning, 20 people are recovering after a bus crash in washington dc. intersection and crashed into a van. a seven-year-old boy was one of the people hurt. he lost his memory. none of the injuries are life-threatening. police have shut down the intersection while they investigate. >> new this morning, for the first time, dogs in rio de janeiro are competing in the dog olympics. the owner of a dog club came up with the idea. the competition was open to all dogs, regardless of their breed or experience.

we scoured out the clouds early on saturday. sunshine saturday and sunday was pleasant. we are live on the radar network and showers and a few storms are back across the dakotas and western minnesota. we have storms in the forecast for today. i will keep the storm index around a four. the storms arriving mid afternoon and front. hail and damaging wind in some of the storms today. a few of the storms will be on the stronger side. we are on weather watch. the highs going up to 84. ben? >> thank you, sal. >> developing overnight, more suspicious devices are found in new jersey. this follows two weekend bombings along the east coast. tim is in the newsroom where new details have been coming in overnight. tim? >> ben, emergency crews are at the scene of a disturbing

the city's mayor says as many as five suspicious devices were found in a backpack in a trash can. officials found the items last night after two men reported seeing wires and a pipe in the trash. one of the objects exploded while crews were trying to disarm it. before that on saturday, a bomb went off in a garbage can in new york city's chelsea neighborhood. you are seeing from the surveillance video there. all of those people have already been released from the hospital. another possible bomb that didn't explode was found a few blocks away. five people were arrested yesterday in connection with the case. surveillance video showed the same man near both locations. it's unclear whether that man is in custody. earlier in the day on saturday, a bomb went off before a charity race in new jersey. no one was hurt. the fbi is investigating whether all of these incidents are

>> chicago police are working to put a body cam on every officer in the city. the camera added in stages and ending in 2018. the chicago police have been under fire for high profile shootings. >> heroin awareness week is beginning, president obama declared this week. to raise awareness about the dangers of painkillers to heroin. the president is saying that the number of over dose deaths are quadrupled. >> donald trump is being criticized for the comments he made on saturday night. he told the crowd in colorado a bomb went off in new york before confirming it was actually a bomb.

clear that the explosion was caused by a bomb. >> hillary clinton is weighing in on the comments saying it is wiser to wait until you have more information. clinton said she's briefed on the situation and supporting the first responders and praying for the victims. >> a libertarian facing criticism over comments. >> grateful nobody got hurt. >> that is what gary johnson said, but 29 people did get hurt in this weekend's explosion. this comes after johnson made headlines when he asked the interviewer what aleppo is.
