good evening. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm meaghan norman. 5 u-s prisoners are now free after secret on-going negotiations with iran for reportedly more than year. four of the prisoners were part of an exchange -- involving seven iranians held by the united states on sanctions charges. three of the prisoners included washington post journalist jason rezaian, a marine veteran and christian pastor. details of the fourth prisoner are not known yet. and a fifth american, not part of the negotiated swap, was also freed. much more on this story coming up on nbc nightly news. columbia police are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian. officers say a man was walking along garners ferry road near i-77, just before 6 o'clock last night

he died as a result of his injuries. it is believed the victim was in the road illegally, but the crash is still under investigation. sled is investigating south carolina's first officer involved shooting of the year. early this morning -- investigators say orangeburg county deputies responded to a disturbance at the 'coasters club' on old number six highway in santee. someone shot at a deputy who returned fire. the officer was not hurt and has been placed on administrative leave. no word on the condition of the suspect. the investigation is ongoing. a former upstate police officer is behind bars. robert shaw has been charged with misconduct in office in connection with an arrest in november of last year. if convicted -- shaw could serve up to 10 years in prison. north carolina and areas near charlotte could see some snow tomorrow. von, what are our chances of

he held a town hall at benedict wis' mike desumma was there and with more. meaghan, the latest polls still show martin o'malley as a distant third in the race for the democratic nomination. while he is trailing behind both hillary clinton and bernie sanders, o'malley says he's not focused on those numbers. "first of all in our party...there are three candidates in the race...not just two." martin o'malley gave a direct message to this small group at benedict college. making the case for his campaign -- off his experience as an executive leader. "our country is facing an extraordinary time." "rarely have we been this divided." the former mayor of baltimore and maryland governor has built his candidacy on social issues. his campaign promises include finding ways to better the financial health of working families -- and cutting unemployment rates for young americans. o'malley's remarks saturday also included support for expanding medicaid --- and continued funding for inmate support programs throughout the department of

"that widening gap of opportunity..and also that widening gap when it comes to qual justice under the law." "we have to close those." "we need to take the actions again that make wages go up for all of our people...that make college a debt free option." "coming out of it i feel like he has a plan..he has a great plan." "he's a forward thinking individual and i think that he's a good candidate for president." yet up to this point -- that belief has not shined for o'malley in the polls. recent polls show him carrying only about 2 percent of the vote among democrats nationally and here in south carolina. a trend he hopes will change in time for the iowa caucus. "once the voters have an opportunity to have their opinion known...there's usually a surprise." o'malley plans on attending 'king day at the dome' in columbia on monday. but time is running out for him to win over voters in south carolina. the democratic primary here is tomorrow night you can watch the

debate right here on wis. the debate will be held in charleston. coverage starts at 8 o'clock. the debate begins at 9. while democratic candidates prepare for sunday's debate -- tea party heavy-hitters, including presidential primary front runner donald trump -- took on voters in myrtle beach today. wis' will whitson reports from this year's south carolina tea party coalition convention. this convention space was already reaching capacity by 10:30 this morning, and event organizers say the convention has never had a turnout, or list of speakers, this extensive- party a month before south carolina's primary- and less than 11 months til election day. the talking points at myrtle beach's tea party convention hasn't changed much- fairtax, constitutional rights, and government overreach are mentioned in every speech- but the crowd's bigger, as are the speakers. presidential candidate "why i'm running? because i'm not going to let this country go down without a fight. presidential candidate "millions of us stood up

approaching...february third. athletics director ray tanner introduced coach boom...then muschamp introduced his staff members. the coaches were warmly greeted by the fans...muschamp says that's the way it's been since he was hired last month. it's been really amazing. it really has. it's been really amazing. it really has. it's been so positive. just everywhere you go...everyone's been so welcoming. my staff has commented to me several times about how welcoming. i want to credit our administration and how they've supported us as coaches. at the end of the day this is a team and you've got to get the support to be successful...and coach tanner and his staff have been phoenomenal.
