"of a new day begun...let us march on, till victory is won...." hundreds of people marched through columbia to the state house today for king day observances. meaghan norman is at the state house live right now. dawndy and charles, every year the south carolina naacp hosts this rally as a call to action and a renewing of a mission to keep fighting for civil rights. there were about a dozen speakers from local clergy, educators to the democratic presidential candidates. most everyone acknowledged the absence of the confederate flag -- an issue of contention and division and a symbol which the sc naacp has fought for decades to remove. while the speakers celebrated what many consider a "victory" they also focused on what issues still remain including equal opportunity for all for a quality education. "education is key -- you can't have a country and nation where little boys and

and be judged by the content of their character without education." "when my fair-skinned friends are urged to take honors courses and i'm asked, 'are you sure?' there is work to be done." temperatures much of the week. arctic air has settled down over much of the southeast, look for temperatures to be at least 10 middle 20s through wednesday. normal with highs in the lower to middle 50s. investigators now say a deadly police chase and crash were connected to two armed robberies. lexington deputies say it all robbed the hill view truck stop less than a mile away. deputies say they saw robbers vehicle and chased it, then the the only passenger, who deputies say matches the description from is ongoing. detectives are also investigating the role the two may have played in a stabbing crime-sc. that's also the number to call if you know anything lexington deputies say it all started around four o'clock this morning when the 44 truck stop in gilbert was robbed. less than hour later someone robbed the hill view truck stop less than a mile away. deputies say they saw robbers vehicle and chased it, then the car ran off harvey berry road and hit a tree. the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died.

say matches the description from both truck stop robberies, was taken into custody. the investigation into the crash is ongoing. detectives are also investigating the role the two may have played in a stabbing incident late sunday night in pelion. anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers at 1-888- crime-sc. that's also the number to call if you know anything about an armed robbery and shooting on two notch road. deputies in richland county say it happened around 11 last night at the video express store. they say someone held up the clerk, then shot the clerk because the clerk couldn't get into the store's safe. as the robber ran off, deputies say the employee also had a gun and did manage to shoot, and possibly hit the robber. two people are now locked up after a drive-by shooting and police chase in kershaw county. deputies arrested alan holloway and levi gibbs early yesterday. the two are facing multiple charges including attempted murder. deputies say the two of them shot into a house on

saturday night. elgin police spotted the suspects' vehicle and they took off, then crashed near wildwood lane in elgin. they were taken to the hospital and are now in jail awaiting a bond hearing. a man and woman were injured in the shooting. they are expected to be okay. we are awaiting the name of the person killed in a crash in sumter county. highway patrol says it happened early sunday morning on state road 261, four miles north of pinewood. troopers say the driver of a nissan four door was going north, ran out of control, hit a tree and died. we're told the driver was wearing a seatbelt. police now have one suspect for the murder of a policemen in ohio. thomas cottrell with the danville police department was shot and killed around midnight. then his patrol car was stolen. police caught herschel jones shortly afterwards. he has a lengthy criminal record. investigators say jones' ex-girlfriend had called dispatchers to report the man was armed and

an investigation continues into a deadly weekend skydiving accident. it happened saturday at the triangle north executive airport in franklin county, north carolina. authorities say james stremmel died while skydiving around 2pm. according to witnesses stremmel died after making a hard landing. the owner of the jump center says stremmel was licensed, had performed more than 1,800 skydiving jumps in the past and jumps nearly every weekend. the franklin county sheriff and the f-a-a are investigating. the search continues for a toddler from tennessee missing since thursday. two-year-old noah chamberlin vanished during a hiking trip with his grandmother and sister. volunteers and police with search dogs are searching the treacherous terrain day and night. they picked up footprints but no other clues. investigators still consider it "a search and rescue" mission and believe they will find noah alive. they say the family is cooperating and there
