forecast. your news at 6 starts now. good evening. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm meaghan norman. a man is in jail tonight charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend. the richland county coroner says 19-year-old deanndra roach died from multiple gunshot wounds. deputies say her body was found next to her car in a field off farrow road in blythewood, late friday afternoon. a passerby discovered the victim just 2 miles away from her home. the suspect, 22-year-old andre heatley jr. went before a judge this afternoon at alvin s. glenn detention center --- that is where we find wis' mike desumma. meaghan, it was a court appearance that oy lasted minutes but it was certainly an emotional one for deanndra roach's parents. bond was neither set or denied for andre heatley jr. his case has been moved to

jail. a richland county sheriff's department spokesman says deputies were able to track down heatley after he allegedly used the victim's debit card in several places moments after the shooting. today those who knew this young girl -- say they cannot make sense e this tragedy. shooting suspect caught --- columbia blythewood nat: family praying outside of the alvin s. glen detention center saturday there was time for prayer. for david and cynthia roach time to grieve. ivory thigpen --- pastor, 'rehoboth baptist church' 4:19:31 "i remember her smile the most." 4:19:32 just hours before richland county officials delivered the sad news that their 19 year old daughter deanndra known to everyone as dee dee had been shot to death. nat: car passes her body left by her car parked off farrow road was found late friday by a passerby. all before deputies charged 22 year old andre

lt. curtis wilson --- richland co sheriff's dept. 4:00:01 "basically he's an ex boyfriend of the victim and sheriff's dept. 3:59:27 "we were able to question him." 3:59:29 "and also we were able to find out that the suspect also used the victim's credit card." 3:59:36 authorities say surveillance video shows heatley using that card at three different locations right after roach was killed. heatley was taken intntcustody early saturday morning and for now will continue to be held behind bars. future ahead of her and the sky the air force. she also was very active in her 4:19:34 "part of the difficult thing now is every time i think justice." 4:21:45 heatley's bond will be discussed at a future court date yet to be decided. in addition to murder, he has also been charged with armed robbery, accused of stealing and using the victim's debit card. deanndra roach's family says they are in the process of making funeral arrangements. live in columbia mike desumma -

black history month begins on monday but richland library opened its doors today, welcoming everyone for an early celebration. story time kicked off the day with the nia company's production of br'er rabbit's small table teaching kids the importance of financial responsibility through a little fun. the black history month fair followed with a reptile presentation, african drummer performance and the owners of 2 fat 2 fly sharing what it took to start their own business. richland library called it a celebration of the

organization in columbia is trying to keep young men on the right path. they partnered with the richland county sheriff's department today for its monthly "manhood academy." the 'academy' is a free mentoring session for young boys held on the 4th saturday of each month. this morning's session was held at the northeast branch of richland library. "the boys need it. there is a need for boys to learn about what manhood is about. not necessarily manhood from a black man's persepective but manhood in general. there are a lot of boys that don't have a father and they need someone to fill the gap." the next mentoring session will be held february 27. to sign up visit wistv.com and

the big red 10. some shoppers were out and about this morning in columbia, hoping to get their hands on some deals. several stores on devine street were open for a 'winter sidewalk sale.' dozens of businesses had marked-down items on their shelves. some stores even opted to showcase some of their merchandise outside. many merchants say they appreciate customers swinging by even if it is just to window shop. "it's good for them just to get out and stroll the street and see what's in these stores and what makes devine street and floods going on here in columbia it is very important to support your local merchants." the devine street sidewalk sale is held twice a year. the next one will take place
