six hours left to sign up for health insurance and avoid the penalty. today is the last day to enroll in the affordable care act or make changes to your current plan. there has been a day-long signup session happening at brookland baptist church in west columbia. from noon until the deadline at midnight. wis' mike desumma is live there tonight. mike -- i understand some people showed up as early as 9 a-m to get in line to get coverage. meaghan the demand organizers said they saw last year is one reason they extended hours for this help fair. today it started a full six hours earlier with easily dozens of people passing through the brookland baptist church by midday. there is of course a higher penalty this year for those who don't obtain some form of health insurance by midnight tonight 695 dollars per person or 2.5
whichever is larger. that's why officials with the south carolina hospital association say they're encouraging any people having trouble signing up for the affordable care act to stop by. they have health insurance brokers here that could help you navigate the aca website, find a health coverage plan that fits your budget and in some cases help with paying for it. "about 88 percent of south carolinians who have been able to sign up for coverage.and that's about 215,000 so far are qualifying for financial assistance so that's a wide range of people who qualify for coverage..families of four all the way up to $97,000 a year..so it really is in everyone's best interest." if you're making your way out here to get some help signing up organizers encourage you to bring a few things. most importantly a form of government id as well as tax paperwork and any information pertaining to your household income. the deadline of course is

'stand up sunday' was also about encouraging dialogue on strengthening gun regulations in america. "there's a sense at which people have associated rights i mean freedom.with the second amendment. there are many amendments that pertain to our rights and justice and what's fair. we're not against second amendments." members of the 'faith coalition on gun violence' say they want to see tougher background checks on gun sales here in south carolina. organizers say they plan on taking their message to the legislature. south carolina has the 11th highest rate of gun deaths per capita in the nation...and today 13 hundred congregations came together to tackle the gun violence facing our state. alexis simmons show us how the churches are
gun laws. it's the tragedy that happened right behind these doors at emanuel ame churches across the state to stand up against gun violence. the event is being held to honor the nine members of emanuel ame church who were shot and killed while in bible study last june. the daughter church of emanuel...mt. zion ame was part of the movement. church leaders among 14 denominations preached on the gun violence issue and encouraged their congregations to sign prepared letters to legislators. they're taking action to close loopholes that allow guns to be sold without background checks. during participating services...church leaders asked people to take to take a stand to rally at the state house to pass stricter gun legislation. gun sense sc is the driving force behind this event. "doing something and activism and allowing the legacy of our loved ones to continue to shape the things we do to become...to make society a better place then that's

say deanndra roach was discovered in a field off farrow road in blythewood. the victim's ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old andre heatley jr. is in jail tonight, charged with murder and armed robbery. investigators believe heatley shot and killed roach, then stole her debit card using it three times right after the murder. sheriff leon lott will have a press conference tomorrow to update us on this
