they are searching for any suspects. sled and the lexington county coroner's office are also investigating. our michal higdon is following this investigation and will have a live report ahead on sunrise at 5am. our other top story this morning -- a slight chance we could see some wintry weather in the midlands this morning. tim miller is in the first alert storm center with your wake up weather. the forecast looks to continue to be on target from my thoughts last night. there will be periods of very light freezing drizzle and light freezing rain developing this morning and lasting until around noon. freezing rain advisory remains in effect for lancaster and chesterfield counties until 1pm. the air is fairly dry and needs to moisten up for us to have any action with this system from a winter perspective this morning, look for light amounts of freezing rain and/or drizzle with up to a trace through the central midlands to a touch more in the advisory areas. this becomes a rain event by showers.

major routes in our northern midlands counties as a precaution. that includes i-77 running through fairfield county and parts of newberry county. dot crews put a brine s sution down sunday in the event any frozen precipitation falls. state officials say local highways in those counties have also been pre-treated along with bridges and routes that run close to hospitals. much of the eastern half of the nation braved some very cold conditions over the weekend. there were record low temperatures in the northeast and a snow storm that blanketed parts of the midwest. dan scheneman has more. it was a snowy valentine's day in indiana. weather was the cause of a huge pile-up that

highway near indianapolis.....at least ten people were taken to hospitals with injuries. "we know that a squall came through here and the visibility was almost zero and it just turned icy very quickly it is what it is we deal with this but in 32 years this is one of the worst crashes that i've ever seen." it was the coldest valentine's day on record in the northeast. the frigid temperatures caused problems for firefighters in new jersey. "they lost water in the beginning kind of delayed operations due to one of the lines freezing.....that's typical when you have this kind of weather." in new york......the icy air almost scared off a tourist from london. "we got off the plane yesterday and we nearly ran back into the airport i've never known cold like that ever." the temperature kept many people at home in philadelphia....but not everyone.....some hearty revelers turned out for a chinese new year celebration....one woman didn't think it

"i'm not actually that cold...i lived in chicago for a while so this is cool." as temperatures are expected to dip here in the midlands we want to remind you to be careful when heating your home. space heaters, fireplaces or wood and coal stoves can be fire hazards. to prevent a fire, place space heaters at least three feet away from anything combustible, including wallpaper and bedding. make sure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. and never use your oven to heat your home. a kershaw county man will be in bond court this week after deputies say he shot and killed a suspected thief. 49-year-old jimmy methe has been charged with voluntary manslaughter for the shooting death of a teenaged boy. early saturday morning, deputies were called to methe's home in camden. methe reportedly told deputies he caught the teen and another person stealing from his truck...so he shot one of them as they tried to run away. 17-year-old brandon spencer of camden was

high school. the other person involved has not been identified. candidates are continuing to make their presence known here in the palmetto state ahead of this weekend's republican primary. donald trump has planned stops in the lowcountry and the upstate today. ted cruz will be in aiken, camden and florence. marco rubio will have stops in florence, rock hill and lexington. ben carson will be in lancaster county. and candidate jeb bush will be joined by his brother, former president george w. bush in charleston. we'll have more on those campaign stops ahead on sunrise. celebrities have been coming through south carolina campaigning for presidential candidates. on saturday, actor jason george stopped by -- supporting hillary clinton. he told our meaghan norman he feels clinton has the most experience and can effect change. but regardless of your choice at the polls, george says voters need to stay engaged in the political process. you'll be able to see meaghan's ll interview with jason george on awareness at a later date. making national headlines this morning... officials in texas say supreme court justice antonin scalia died of natural causes. the 79-year-old was found unresponsive saturday at a resort in west texas. officials determined he died from a heart attack... and say an autopsy will not be performed. a private plane carrying scalia's body left texas last night for virginia, where scalia will be buried. a bitter battle is brewing over when to replace the leading conservative on america's most powerful court. president obama says he intends to nominate a successor for justice scalia. but as cnn's ryan nobles explains -- republicans are already putting up roadblocks. "a moment of silence for justice scalia." it did not take long for the death of supreme court justice antinon scalia to get political in the republican presidential primary

"i think it is up to mitch mcconnell and everybody else to stop it. it's called delay, delay delay." one by one the g-o-p candidates-- payed homage to the conservative lion-- and predicted that any obama nominee to replace him would be unsuccessful. 'watershed fellowship' has a congregation of 120 people. the church held services at the old mill off east main street. last october,high waters breached the dam behind the mill taking out buildings in its path. the church suffered thousands of dollars in damages and had no flood insurance. 5 months later -- volunteers have finished the repairs. "i tell ya during the days of all the volunteers restaurants sent food out.people came and kids came from school. it was just true community..a lot of laughter.of joy in the midst of doing hard work..messy stuff." the fellowship will host a festival to officially celebrate its reopening on sunday -- march 6th. coming up...the gamecock women's

around 8-30 last night. investigators found the man on the ground in the parking lot of a park-n- ride off of highway 378 in lexington. michal higdon is live at t e scene with these new developments and we''ll check in with her in just a few minutes. we are also following reports of a fully involved house fire in elgin. multiple agencies have responded to the fire. we have a crew out there right now and will check in as soon as possible. we are also tracking a storm system that could bring a small chance of wintry weather to south carolina. right now -- the weather is calm. just cloudy and cold. a freezing rain advisory is in effect for lancaster and chesterfield counties up until one this afternoon. let's check in with tim miller who's tracking the developing winter weather to the north of us. a combination of freezing rain/ sleet/ snow is expected in the area monday morning from 3am until 11am. trace amounts of freezing rain may fall in the extreme northern portion of the viewing area, this will not impact travel and

our michal higdon joins us now live with new information -- michal? this all happened just after 8:30 last night. officers responded to a possible shooting here on riverchase way which is just near corley mill road and 378 in lexington. officers say when they arrived, they found a man laying on the ground in the vicinity of the park-n-ride. police say the man was dead when they got to the scene and it appears as if he was shot. police say, at this point, they

they are trying to determine a motive of why this man was shot -- because this all happened in a place where people meet to carpool and ride with one another. in decision 2016, gop presidential candidate marco rubio will continue making stops through the palmetto state today. he's scheduled to hold three separate town halls with congressman trey gowdy, the last of which will be in gilbert tonight at harmon's tree farm at 6pm. on sunday, rubio was greeted by a crowd of 2- thousand at easley high school. rubio spoke on several key issues including the passing of supreme court justice scalia. republicans and top democrats are at odds over whether president barack obama should appoint a new justice before he leaves office. "the meaning of the constitution as it was written by theheeople who wrote it at the time, that is what we need in our justices and scalia understood that better than anyone that's ever served and we lost him. now we commend his soul to god, we pray for his family and now we pray for our country because that vacancy will have to be filled and it will be filled by the next president, not by this one." in addition to three stops in south carolina today- rubio has three stops planned for tuesday,

ted cruz also has three stops planned in south carolina today in aiken, florence, and camden. cruz will start his day off in aiken where he plans to hold a rally with glenn beck at usc aiken at 11 a-m. he'll then head to camden hold a meet and greet at three p-m at the ten eleven galleria on broadadtreet. technology. that's at six p-m. candidates donald trump and ben carson also make stops around the state today. trump will be in mount pleasant and greenville while carson will be in lancaster county and spartanburg. finally former president george bush will lend his voice to his brother jeb's campaign tonight in jeb has said he believes his brother could help save his presidential campmpgn. president bush's popularity has improved since he left office in 2009 and jeb is hoping to gain more momentum after a fourth place finish in new hampshire.

home in brooklyn overnight... take a look at this incredible video from the scene. fire officials say the blaze started around 11 pm. images from the fire show the residential building fully engulfed in flames. no injuries have been reported and officials are reporting the fire is under control this morning. it's unclear what may have started the fire. a greenville man has been charged after authorities say he went to north carolina in an attempt to meet a 14- year-old girl. 55-year-old john heelan has been arrested on felony and indecent liberties charges with a minor. the girl he expected to meet in boone was actually an undercover detective. heelan is being held on 50-thousand dollars bond and has

methe's home in camden for a shooting. methe reportedly told deputies he caught the teen and another person stealing from his truck. he says he shot one of them as they tried to run away. 17-year-old brandon spencer of camden was killed. he was a sophomore at camden high school.l. the other person involved has not been identified. the body of supreme court justice antonin scalia has arrived back home in virginia. scalia's body was loaded onto a hearse late last night. earlier on sunday, a procession of about 20 police officers brought his body to an el paso funeral home from the texas ranch where scalia was found dead on saturday. the medical examiner decided an autopsy was unnecessary. it's believed the 79-year- old died of natural causes. and while we haven't heard yet when president obama will nominate a successor to scalia, many in the senate are already vowing to block his pick. the president's choice will have to be approved by members of the senate judiciary committee. senator lindsey graham has a seat on that committee and is

back to this morning's breaking news...an arrest in that suspicious death investigation in lexington. our michal higdon joins us now live with new information -- michal? this all happened just after 8:30 last night. officers responded to a possible shooting here on riverchase way which is just near corley mill road and 378 in lexington. officers say when they arrived, they found a man laying on the ground in the vicinity of the park-n-ride. police say the man was dead when they got to the scene and it appears as if he was shot. police say, at this point, they believe the death is suspicious. they are trying to determine a motive of why this man was shot -- because this all happened in a place where people meet to carpool and ride with one another. man was found lying on the ground dead in the vicinity of the park- n-ride and appeared to be shot. police say the park-n- ride is typically where individuals can leave their car and ride with a friend. at this point police, they are unsure as to why the man was here and are working to determine a potential suspect in this shooting. the lexington police department is actively investigating this shooting and is being assisted by sled and the coroner's office. we are hoping to learn more information later today and will keep you posted on air and online. live in lexington, michal higdon, wis news 10. a kershaw county man will be in bond court this week after shooting and killing a suspected thief. 49-year-old jimmy methe has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after deputies say he shot and killed a 17 year old boy. were called to methe's home in camden for a shooting. methe reportedly told deputies he caught the
