since violence broke out in sherman park... some say... they are starting to see change. several organizations and community groups have made their presence known in the milwaukee neighborhood over the past week... whether that's in the form of an event.. encouraging the youth to adhere to the curfew.. or just being an ear so people can voice their concerns. now, an effort is underway to join many of those organizations together into one collaborative effort- it's called 'still 300 strong". work youre doing good work lets all come together and show everyone especially our young people that people are working together the first big 300 strong event is sept 10th in sherman park at noon. organizers describe it like a big family reunion where everyone is invited. this weekend there are several events planned as well- some that were planned before the violence but now may have renewed message of unity. we've been tracking the

sherman park since the unrest broke out last weekend -- from the investigation to a neighborhood in healing. click the link atop the home page of fox6 now dot com or the fox6 news app -- to view all of our coverage. we are following breaking news out of new london wisconsin. police there say one person is dead after being shot by a police officer. we're told police are in a neighborhood on the city's east side. the state department of justice is investigating the shooting, which is standard protocol for fatal shootings involving police. new london is about a half hour north west of appleton. this developing story both on air and online at fox6now.com back in milwaukee... the ?front of a milwaukee police station becomes a crime scene. a man died last night after being shot there. fox 6's ben handelman joins us from the newsroom where he has new information in this developing story. ben? the victim in this case is now identified as 42-year old reed carlsen. according to investigators, around 7 o-clock last night, two men were sitting in a van right in

kinnickinnic. police say the victim then became involved in some sort of altercation with the two men... and during the argument, a 65-year old man seated inside the van drew a gun and shot carlsen. police performed live-saving measures on the victim. he was transported to the hospital where he died. right in front of the police station?!?! oh, my god! thats, thats brave! thats bold! thats, thats, thats, beyond scandalous, right there. shooting, we're told the 65-year-old turned himself in, and surrendered the gun to police inside the station. reporting live in the newsroom, ben handelman fox six news. steph thanks ben. a 34-year-old man is injured after a shooting in downtown milwaukee. the shooting happened just before three a-m near old world third and wells. we're told that there was a fight that led up to the shooting. the victim drove himself to 4th and kilbourn where he flagged down a passing police squad. he was

'its a tough operation thats does take time.'the work will include taking the tub girders - the substructure of the new ramp and move 4 of them into place. 'theyre going to be lifted up and then theyre going to be air spliced in the air until they can hit the next pier cap.' large cranes will be mobilized on east bound 94 - as well as the east bound to south bond ramp. 'were going up and over everything now, we have real tall piers and these tub system ramps and because of that we cannot place these over live traffic so we do need to take the closure to do that.'which means -- the i-94 east and ramp from i-94 east at wis 100 to i-41/894 south ramp will be closed starting 10pm on friday until 6am on sunday. the d-o-t recommends bluemound and greenfield from moorland or wis 100...as alternative

expected to survive. the crash is being investigated by the prosecutor's office. two people were injured and 19 firefighters suffered heat exhaustion after a six alarm fire yesterday on staten island. it started in one house and quickly spread to neighboring homes, damaging or destroying a total of seven homes. about 250 firefighters responded. more than 40 people are now without a home. the americanr providing temporary housing help for them. there's no word yet on what caused the fires. ben handelman joins us from the newsroom with some stories coming up on fox six news at five. the aftermath of the unrest. several businesses in sherman park were looted, damaged, and destroyed by the protests. at five, see why the people who may be rebuilding the neighborhood, may be the young men who live there. also at five, the two girls on trial for the slenderman stabbing in court today. it's their first

coming up, we learn more about the future of that case. those stories and more coming up in about 20 minutes on fox six news at five. steph thanks ben. florida officials say a small area in miami beach is a new place where the zika virus is spreading. health officials identified five cases of the zika virus believed to be contracted in miami beach. fox's phil keating has more. a popular area in miami beach including world-famou becomes the second zone in south florida where the zika virus is spreading. florida governor rick scott says state health officials identified five new cases of the zika virus.. it is believed all five cases were contracted in a one-point-five mile area that encompasses most of south beach... these new illnesses bring the number of locally transmitted cases to thirty-six. scott says: two of these individuals are florida residents and live in in miami dade county.. one person

a new study shedding some light on a-d-h-d and pregnancy. it finds that having a diet high in fat and sugar during pregnancy increases the chances of your baby developing a- d-h-d. researchers from a london college looked at the d-n-a of 164 children who showed symptoms the disorder. the diets of their mothers were also analyzed. the study found poor pre-natal nutrition influenced the expression of a particular gene- leads to a-d-h-d and behavior problems. experts say more research is needed -- but the findings do emphasize the importance of a healthy diet. new york police are giving a boy a reason to smile. they're sending seven-year-old tyrone lowe to disney world. tyrone was orphaned last december... when his father killed his mother and then killed himself tyrone witnessed it all. the n-y-p-d banded together to raise the money over the past
