littered with debris. some residents were reportedly buried under collapsed buildings. the aftershocks were reportedly felt in rome -- which is about 100 miles away. the region is the same one that endured an earthquake back in 20-09 that left more than 300 people dead. we will continue to follow the developments on this breaking news all morning for you on wakeup. overnight...police investigating a shooting near the same intersection syville smith was shot by a milwaukee police officer. we're told that a 19-year-old man was sitting in a car near 44th and auer around 10 -- when a suspect fired several shots into the car. a friend drove the victim to the hospital -- and police say the man received a "very serious gunshot wound"...but that he is expected to survive. police continue to investigate. a child is in critical condition after a hit and run crash it happened on milwaukee's north

m-p-d's district 5 with the latest the 11 year old girl is at children's hospital... she was hit by a car at the intersection of 27th and burleigh... the crash happened at 7:30 pm. we're told it was a car versus bicycle accident. police say their initial investigation shows the child was attempting to cross the street when she was hit the car fled from the scene. the child was taken to the hospital. at this point we don't have a description of the car reporting live from district 5 deandra corinthios fox6 news two carjacking suspects are in custody this morning. police say the two stole one car...and then were attempting to carjack another vehicle -- when they were spotted by a squad. the suspects ran away -- but police were able to catch them. both vehicles were found..and no one was injured in the incidents. police continue to investigate.

after being shot in the leg. this happened near 22nd avenue and 57th street. police not releasing many details about this investigation. we'll bring you any updates as soon as they come into our newsroom. a scary situation for a fan at miller park last night. a woman was hit by a line drive hit by nick hundley down the third base line in the second inning. the game was delayed for a couple of minutes. brewers officials say the fan was conscious and alert and transported to the hospital. the brewers extended the netting at miller park before the season started to the inside edge of each dugout. head became stuck in a window. it appears the boy may have tried to climb out a window and became trapped. neighbors say the boy may have been stuck for sometime, unable to breath before he was found hanging in the window. family members say this is the little boy's grandmothers house.. but that no adults were home at the time. the child was being watched by some young teens. neighbors rushed to help when they heard screams, and began c-p-r before paramedics took over. but they say there was nothing they

please god give him life. like please help him. thats all i could think of at that point. police say they continue to investigate the cause. officials say no one is being held in custody. milwaukee aldermen are calling a newly-released public safety action plan-- a starting point. it spells out possible strategies for reducing crime-- through 23 recommendations. lets start the conversation, and then lets k and make adjustments based on what resources we have. the report calls for more police officers and sheriff's deputies....as well as expanding juvenile detention facilities. as far as the cost to taxpayers-- there isn't a price tag just yet. officials say itll be a matter of priorities. an update now on the fatal fire

over the weekend. officials have identified the woman killed as 62-year-old deborah marsh. authorities say the fire broke out around 4:15 sunday morning at the ember's apartments. marsh's body was located by firefighters battling the blaze. preliminary autopsy findings indicate marsh died of smoke and soot inhalation from the fire. investigators continue to look into what caused the fire...but it is not beleived to be suspicious. the state fire marshall continues to investigate. ahead on wakeup -- we'll have more on the devastation caused by an earthquake in central italy plus -- turkey launching an attack on isis militants in syria this morning. how u-s forces are involved - next. and an american soldier is dead after a roadside bomb in afghanistan. details on the attack - after

bombing isis targets in the syrian border town. the special forces also exchanging artillery fire. the operation was said to have begun hours after turkey indicated it would step up its engagement in the nation. meanwhile -- an american soldier is dead and another wounded after a roadside bombing in afghanistan. six afghan soldiers were also injured during the joint patrol in the volatile helmand province. this is the second soldier to die in combat in afghanistan this year. in january, staff sgt. matthew mcclintock, firefight with the taliban. currently, there are nearly 10,000 us troops in afghanistan and almost 700 of those are in helmand province. this week, 100 more u.s. troops arrived in helmand to assist afghan forces the f-b-i is now investigating a stabbing in roanoke, virginia from over the weekend as a possible act of terrorism. the suspect -- 20-year-old wasil farooqui -- attacked a man and women as they were trying to get into

breaking news - a 6-point-two earthquake rattles central italy overnight. 37 people are believed to be dead...and the death toll expected to rise. you're taking a live looa the original quake struck near norcia...but many aftershocks followed...and felt as far as rome which is 100 miles away. buildings in the lazio region have been reduced to rubble...and crews are working to pull surivivors from the rubble. we'll continue to follow this developing story on wakeup this morning. be sure to check fox6 now dot com or the fox 6

devastation in baton rouge with his own eyes... and has promised to provide whatever federal resources are needed to rebuild the flood-torn region. 13 people died...and more than 60- thousand homes damaged by the floodwaters. the president says it's not just about property damage...he says it's also about "people's roots." while in baton rouge -- president obama also met with the family of alton sterling -- who was killed by police...and the families of officers killed or injured nearly two weeks later response to sterling's killing. and more than thirty large wildfires are now burning out west. washington's governor is the latest to issue a state of emergency. fires in the spokane region alone have burned more than a dozen homes and triggered large scale evacuations. seven states are now dealing with major wildfires...including hard-hit california. a fire burning near the coast in the central part of the state now covers nearly sixty square miles.
