an autopsy is expected to take place later today. a man is fighting for his life this morning after a shootout between two groups on the city's west side. police say it happened near 29th and michigan around 5-30 yesterday. we're told a 20-year-old man...and another man drove up to the neighborhood...got out of a car and then started shooting at another group. the 20-year-old was hit...and is suffering from critical injuries. he was taken to the hospital. police say officers near the scene able to arrest the other man that drove up with the shooting victim. two guns were recovered at the scene. the other group of shooters ran away...and police continue to investigate a motive. it's a case that's garnered national attention...following the unrest in the sherman park neighborhood... and today a well-known civil rights leader will attend the funeral for sylville smith who was shot and killed by a milwaukee police officer. fox6's deandra corinthios joins us live from the northwest side with more.

and reverend jesse jackson of the rainbow push coalition...will deliver the eulogy.. the visitation will begin this morning at 10 am the funeral begins at noon there are still many unanswered questions...when it comes to the investigation into the shooting.. that took place august 13th near 44th and auer. police say body camera footage--which has not yet been released -- clearly shows smith holding a handgun and turning towards an officer when he was shot. two days of unrest followed the shooting...violence...looting... and arsn matters... coordinating the funeral....says today's service is not about the how and why...it is about supporting smith's family. "it's easy to sit home and complain about what should and shouldn't have happened and try to play lawyer or play investigator and figure this one out. but right now the family needs support/ " instead of a repass or reception after the funeral smith's family has opted for

10am- 10 pm. ..on auer between 42nd and 43rd.. there will be music, food and fellowship to celebrate smith's life and take back the park. reporting live in milwaukee deandra corinthios fox6 news two nuns who spent decades helping the poor were found dead in a home in mississippi yesterday. and one of them was from milwaukee. the two were found stabbed in a home in durant -- w early reports indicate held and merrill may have been robbed--but the investigation is on-going. they have been identified as paula merrill and margaret held. held worked with the school sisters of saint francis in milwaukee. 35:17 the community will pull together, pray together, remember her life and ministry and all the many thousands of lives that shes touched through her

in the process of planning funeral arrangements and masses. milwaukee archbishop jerome listecki released a statement -- saying in part: "the perpetrator of the crime robbed not only the school sisters of st. francis, but also the entire church of a woman whose life was spent in service." in dane county-- a home is leveled after an explosion in fitchburg. officials say a man in his 50's was pulled from the debris...and is in critical condition. the blast was so big that at least 20 other homes firefighters are still trying to figure out what's to blame. the red cross is helping the families displaced. a waiting game in manitowoc county. we are waiting for new motions to be filed by the attorney for steven avery. angelica joins us now with more. avery's attorney kathleen zellner has until monday to file a motion. zellner says the motion would re-test d-n-a evidence in the avery case and possibly present an alternate theory on who killed theresa halbach in 2005.

wind: ese 5-10 mph the death toll continues to rise in central italy after a devastating earthquake leveled several towns. 267 people are dead after the 6-point-2 magnitude quake. and aftershocks continue to be felt in one aftershock on thursday crumbled some buildings that had already cracked...prompting authorities to close roads. firefighters and rescue crews are using dogs to try and find survivors. about two hundred people have been pulled alive from the rubble since the quake struck early wednesday cleanup is underway after a series of tornadoes tore through sections of central and northern indiana wednesday. the national weather service says a preliminary damage survey shows that an e-f-3 tornado hit

of 152 miles per hour. the weather service says that twister traveled nearly 5 miles...and was about 300 yards wide the tornado leveled a starbucks near the markland mall. more than 20 people were crammed into the bathrooms at that starbucks. and one of the women inside that building credits the manager -- who is named angel - with making sure everybody was safe. shelly dyer / tornado survivor "we didn't have a thought that it was so close. nothing was telling us that. angel told us that. i just wanted toge now. i mean we wouldn't have been here." fortunately, everyone made it out alive. overall, some fifteen injuries have been reported...but, none are said to be serious...and, there have been no reports of fatalities... coming up next -- a couple under arrest for murder and kidnapping in california. where they were found - after the break. plus - authorities in arizona increasing a reward to try and find a serial shooter

to the baby ...were found earlier this week in albuquerque, new mexico. authorities are now working on returning them to california. and in arizona --- officials have increased the reward for information leading to an arrest in a series of sniper attacks in phoenix. seven people have been killed....and two others have been wounded. the shootings took place from mid- march to mid-july. the previous reward for information leading to arrests was 50-thousand dollars. it's now been increased to 75- thousand. police believe the shooter is a hispanic man, but say others may al the ryan lochte drama continues... brazilian police are now charging u-s olympic swimmer ryan lochte with falsely reporting a crime. this is surveillance video from the alleged incident. lochte had originally said that he and three other swimmers were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in rio. he since admitted that he quote 'over- exaggerated' the story. the 12-time olympic medalist will be summoned to rio,

egyptian cotton? wal-mart, j-c penney, and bed bath and beyond ... under fire for potentially selling phony sheets that they and customers thought were premium egyptian cotton. they're investigating the textile company who supplied the cotton. target pulled its sheets last week. volkswagen has agreed to compensate 652 u-s dealers for cars on their lots that turned out to be rigged to cheat emissions tests. the deal announced is likely worth tens of millions of dollars. the exact amount of the settlement was not released but v-w says the deal will future claims of loss by franchisers. the automaker says it will pay up within 18 months. since it was revealed last year that millions of diesel volkswagen cars worldwide had been fixed to beat emissions tests...v-w has been hit with lawsuits and legal probes. in april v-w revealed it has set aside 18- point-2-billion-dollars to deal with the scandal. the deal with u-s dealers still has to be approved by a federal judge.
