new school year here in milwaukee. milwaukee public schools students are back in class. here's a live from sherman multicultural arts school with more on what the district has planned. students will kick off the am..with mps superintendent darienne driver...milwaukee mayor tom barrett...the state superintendent as well as teachers and parents teachers across the district have been busy putting the

has about 75 thousand students...and about 9 thousand staff members. at sherman multicultural arts school...the welcome event will highlight the white house "turnaround arts" program... it is an arts and humanities focused program designed to increase student achievement...and mps is the only district in the state selected to participate... four mps schools are part of the program, superintendent darienne driver has spoken about her vision for the upcoming school year in recent weeks. she wants to improve reading and math scores. close the achievement gaps between students of different races.. and expand mps arts and athletics programs. we're expecting to learn a ot accomplish this...today. for the first day of class earlier this morning. teachers and staff welcoming the students back for a new school year. later this morning - we're expecting to learn the fate of a former teacher's aide... accused of raping a student. 31-year-old jason price was arrested in april... accused of both rape and sending inappropriate pictures to others. he has been charged with seven felonies. price already resigned from holy redeemer christian academy this spring. his hearing is scheduled for 8:30 this morning. the quiet comes after an evening of arrests tuesday. there has been tension in the area of 44th and auer. police say neighbors have been complaining about large groups gathering near a memorial for syville smith. several people were taken into custody tuesday evening, three others were arrested wednesday morning. smith's brother says they have been peaceful. he says they will continue to gather in that spot until body camera footage of his brother's death is released.

the woman who accused chris brown of pointing a gun at her allegedly wrote a text message shortly after the incident saying she was going to frame chris with the gun allegation out of revenge ... but she denies sending any such message. tmz has obtained a copy of the text, sent to an acquaintance named safari -- no relation to nicki minaj's ex. the text was purportedly sent tuesday at 2:57 am, shortly after baylee curran was kicked out of chris' house. it reads: "hey safari don't you know this freak chris brown is kicking me out of his house because i called his friend jewelry fake can you come get me my uber is messing up if not i'm going to set him up and call the cops and say that he r at will tehia lesson i'mgoing tl come get me." to o me and that will teach m a lesson i'm going to set s a him a lesson i'm going to set his ass up. lol

the woman claiming chris brown pulled a gun on her is wanted in nyc for questioning in connection with criminal theft ... for allegedly stealing a fancy designer purse at a swanky hotel. the incident could be significant in the chris brown case, because alleged victim baylee curran claims a certain piece of jewelry that caught her eye triggered the events that led to her 911 call. thousands of milwaukee public schools students are kicking off a new year this morning. and school leaders did their best to make it fun. deandra corinthios is live from sherman multicultural arts school where classes are now in session. students wil around 730 this morning. this school is not far from where the unrest took place a few weeks ago...but that's not the focus today... it's all about kicking off a new school year right...the superintendent ...the mayor and others will welcome students and we'll find out what the district has planned for the new year there has been improvement in recent years with more mps students meeting reading standards.. and

a woman who was severely beaten on milwaukee's south side earlier this month has died. police say shelby manriquez was assaulted by her daughter on august 14th at a home near 16th and lincoln. she died from her injuries yesterday. 35-year old vicenta manriquez had already been charged with reckless injury. but since her mother died, police charge is expected to be upgraded to reckless homicide. and milwaukee police need your help identifying several suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery. it happened on august 23rd at a bp gas station near 35th and mckliney. a man with a gun stood in the doorway, pointed the firearm at the clerk, and group of women and men stole merchandise from the store. anyone with information is asked to call milwaukee police. you decide coverage now. following a quick trip to mexico to meet with that country's president...donald trump makes a

ingredients: 4 cups thinly sliced cucumbers i like to use baby cukes 1/4 of a red onion, thinly sliced 1 pint grape tomatoes, cut in half 10 mint leaves, thinly sliced 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled salt and freshly ground pepper directions: gently toss together the sliced cucumbers, red onion, tomatoes, and mint leaves. stir in vinegar and olive oil. taste. refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. right before serving sprinkle feta cheese on top. and if you would like to check out the cooking mom's recipes-

the cooking mom is back with a salad that will wow your guest this labor day weekend. ingredients: 3 to 4 cups seedless cucumbers, sliced 2 to 3 cups cherry tomatoes, halved

chopped 1 small red onion, diced 1 cup pitted kalamata olives 8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped 2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon dried oregano salt and freshly ground pepper 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil directions: starting with cucumber slices, layer vegetables, olives, feta and fresh herbs in a large round, glass salad bowl or a trifle bowl. cover refrigerator. in a jar with a lid, shake together together lemon juice, vinegar, garlic, dried oregano and a little salt and pepper. add the olive oil and shake until dressing thickens and coats the jar. dressing can be made up to 3 days ahead. pour the some of the
