a man was shot in his car near 51st and hampton late last night. we're told he was sitting in the car... when some people came up to it and began shooting. the victim is expected to survive. no arrests have been made at this time. and police are also looking for suspects after a shooting near palmer and burleigh overnight. investigators say the suspect allegedly knocked on the victim's door....and when the man opened the door - the suspect shot him. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. a well known voice on milwaukee airwaves goes silent this morning eric von from w-n-o-v 860 passed lets go live to julie collins who's outside the radio station where he worked. julie? many mourning the loss of eric von boardley most commonly known as eric von. a representative for the radio station tells us von died in his home on thursday evening. von is a veteran of more than 25 years in the radio industry, starting his career as a d-j, then, moving into news as an anchor

detect a powerful explosion. the japan meteorological agency detected tremors. north korean state television says the latest test is in retaliation to recent sanctions by western nations. the white house says president obama has been briefed on the matter. it's the fifth test north korea has carried out since 2006. one of the girls accused in the slenderman stabbing case is set to appear in a waukesha county court later today. "anissa weier" is expected to make a plea. morgan geyser and weiera classmate more than two years ago when they were twelve. they told police they did it to please the fictional character slenderman. both girls are pleading guilty due to a mental disease or defect. weier's hearing is scheduled to take place at 8-30 this morning. happening now --- honoring the victims of the september 11th terror attacks. it's been nearly 15-years since that tragic day and the blood center of wisconsin wants to make sure we never forget. our brian kramp joins us live

cut into wedges optional 2 cups fresh pineapple chunks directions: in a large bowl whisk together first 5 ingredients. pour a little more than half the marinade into a large re-sealable plastic bag. add beef. seal bag and turn to coat. refrigerate for up refrigerate reserved marinade. remove beef from the marinade. alternate beef, peppers, onions, and pineapple on metal or soaked wood skewers. grill kabobs uncovered, over medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side or until steak is done to your liking. baste skewers with reserved marinade the last few minutes

for 25 years. he served as the business manager for radio one in washington, d.c....was a regular panelist on wisconsin public televisions...and most recently has hosted 'the eric von show' weekdays from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m on w-n-o-v. he was an influential figure in milwaukee's black community -- starting the online publication brain brawn & body, a health and wellness website committed to improving the health of african american men and their families. encyclopedia he knows all the things their families. "he's a joy, he's a walking encyclopedia he knows all the things that's going on in our community its a great loss that's he's gone on. an update now on a missing murder trial witness --- that person has been located. that witness was scheduled to be in court for the arson-murder trial of michael morgan earlier this week -- but never showed up. officials say they found the witness -- and are holding him in the milwaukee county jail on unrelated charges. morgan is accused of setting a fi children last october. the trial will go on as planned on monday. developing this morning - a former choir director is accused of stealing thousands of dollars that should have gone toward student activities at brookfield central high school. prosecutors are charging 53-year-old phillip olson with theft. they say he embezzled 47- thousand dollars from the school account. that money was supposed to go to the choir. olson was fired from the school in april of last year after more

morning at saint john's lutheran church in mayville. the school was closed yesterday because of flooding. the principal says there was about a half-inch or so of water on the lower level from wednesday's rain. there's no estimate yet on the clean-up costs. but the principal says she may apply for grants if it's more than the school can afford. sobelmans is back in business! the restaurant on the marquette campus is officially back open. the owner dave sobelman met with alderman bob bauman to get a temporary permit. the business this week over a licensing conflict -- and the restaurant closed thursday. the city required sobelman to come to a meeting after a man accidentally fired a gun outside the restaurant back in june. sobelman said he forgot about the meeting -- which caused his food and liquor license to expire. the temporary license only allows sobelman's to sell food -- not liquor. that's expected to be back by september 20th. milwaukee's mayor is strongly suggesting thousands of city residents start using a water filter. mayor tom barrett says homes built before 1951 have lead

70-thousand homes. the long-term fix is to replace all the lead pipes, but that will cost at least half-billion dollars. the mayor's announcement came as a shock because the city had previously only suggested that people buy filters. i said that i strongly advise people to use filters, which is something i do do, particularly for families that have infants. the mayor says milwaukee's lead issue is not getting worse. he says he wants people to buy filters after hearing ro scientist that they are 100 percent effective when working properly. nearly two dozen high school runners are recovering this morning after suffering from heat exhaustion during a cross country meet. hartland fire says they ended up taking 4 runners to the hospital for heat related illnesses as a precaution. more than one thousand runners from roughly 25 schools were competing. emergency crews say, they at first were overwhelmed, so they called in extra help from surrounding communities. about 20 runners needed some assistance. a lot of weakness, some

them and administered water, and got them on their feet again and got them moving. i saw someone pass out. i saw someone sprint into a metal pole. officials say none of the runners suffered serious illnesses, and all of the races were able to be finished. in france -- dozens spend the night in midair... stranded in cable cars. for android users. angelica is in the newsroom with details. don't use your samsung galaxy note 7 smartphones on planes. that's what the f-a-a is saying after samsung's recall over complaints that batteries were catching fire. the company said a week ago it was stopping sales of the phones and would recall two-and a half million of them in 10 countries. now -- the f-a-a doesn't want passengers to turn on or charge the note 7 phones while onboard planes. it also doesn't want people to

baggage. 45 tourists -- including a 10 year old child -- have been safely rescued... after being stuck in cable cars above the french alps. the cars became stuck after two cable lines crossed each other yesterday afternoon. helicopters were able to rescue 65 out of the 110 riders trapped in the car yesterday -- but had to stop by nightfall and wait till the morning for the rest. officials say blankets and food are always stowed in the cars for emergencies like this. it was one of the darkest days in american history --- it's been nearly 15 yeas since the september 11th terror attacks. and happening now -- the blood center of wisconsin is honoring the victims. our brian kramp joins us live

if you're grilling out for the packers game. why not heat things up with this recipe. the cooking mom is here making bacon wrapped poppers. ingredients: 4 ounces chive and onion or plain cream cheese 6 jalapeo peppers, halved lengthwise, seeded 4 slices bacon 12 wooden preheat oven to 350f. line cookie sheet with foil. spray with cooking spray. stuff pepper halves with cream cheese. cut each bacon slice into thirds. wrap one piece of bacon around each stuffed pepper half. secure with a toothpick if you like. place on cookie sheet. bake 15 to 25 minutes or until bacon is crispy. serve warm. notes: these are also delicious grilled! just grill on low to medium heat until peppers get a little soft and bacon gets crispy. and if you would like to check out the cooking mom's recipes- just head to our website fox six now dot com
