as kids head out in costume today...law enforcement officers are making sure they're safe when they knock on doors. the department of corrections is doing sex offender checks. deandra corinthios is live from the south milwaukee police department with more. south milwaukee is one of many communities with trick or treat hours tonight...5:30 to 7:30 p-m... and registered sex offenders have been participate in any halloween activities over the weekend a team of parole officers and u-s marshals went out for trick or treat checks. they had a list of registered sex offenders...and made house visits to see if they were in compliance. if they're not, they are taken into custody. sunday -- nine sex offenders in the milwaukee area were arrested for violations. a registered sex offender is not allowed to display any halloween decorations they cannot wear costumes or hand out candy.

"sex offender agents are gonna come with law enforcement agents to make sure that their residence is clear of any violations as far as halloween goes, there's to be no decoration inviting kids in, lights need to be off, no candy present basically univiting to kids who are out trick or treating." you are encouraged to check the sex offender registry for your neighborhood there is also a sex offender registry tipline you information for you on our website...fox6 now dot com reporting live in south milwaukee deandra corinthios fox6 news charges are pending after a sheriff's deputy in north west wisconsin is shot and killed. the sheriff's office in rusk county says 33-year-old dan glaze was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle. the deputy radioed that he found the vehicle, but officials then lost contact with the deputy. when back up arrived, authorities

suspect. he was found and taken into custody. milwaukee police searching for suspects after shooting near the old pabst brewery complex. it happened a little before 1:30 yesterday morning near 10th and juneau. an 18-year old was injured. police believe the shooting was robbery related. the incident remains under investigation. with just eight days until election day --- the campaign trail is once again stopping in wisconsin. and today we should lean more information about the voter i-d law in wisconsin. angelica is in the newsroom with state and local elections officials will hold a news conference this afternoon to discuss education and outreach efforts about the state's law and the i-d petition process. earlier this month -- a federal judge ordered the state to create documents clearly explaining wisconsin's system for getting voting credentials to people who don't have photo i-d's. those without documentation like a birth certificate can still vote in the november election with either an d-m-v- issued identification card or a temporary receipt from the

new this morning -- the search is over for an alleged killer in oklahoma. michael vance was shot and killed in a shootout with police last night. an officer was injured but expected to survive. vance had been on the week. he's accused of going on a violent crime spree...that left two people dead...and four people shot - including two officers. more details are expected to be released later today. jury selection begins today... in the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man in north carolina. former north charleston officer michael slager faces murder charges... for killing walter scott... after pulling him over for a broken taillight back in april 2015. slager's attorney contends... there was more to the incident than what appeared on the widely seen video of the shooting...
