shots fired outside the home. a.j. bayatpour is live outside the home, where relatives are gathering tonight... the family is holding a vigil here in front of the house. they want this to be a celebration of melanie johnsons life. they also hope this scene prompts anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. this is so sad that it happened to her, i just dont understand. sister, melanie johnson, was in the kitchen of her familys home near 35th and silver spring monday night. another relative says johnson went into the kitchen to get her infant-age nephew when the shots started. thats when she was hit. johnsons younger sister was home at the time. they shot four times and then when she got to the hallway, she dropped. townsend says another sister tried to keep johnson conscious.

he wants to tell. kinda hits home, for us, when we fight a fire where theres a christmas tree up, christmas gifts already set, and the fire comes in and damages everything and you know that all of thats ruined. tuesday, cudahy chief dan mayer laments the situation surrounding several survivors of a monday evening fire here, at the creekside condominiums. he says, five people, in two condominiums, managed to avoid injuries, but not prop and the loss of their homes for a significant stretch. we have a total of five persons, displaced. one person found his own place, after that, but the red cross assisted the remainder, the other four. the chief relays the results of a preliminary investigation indicating the burning began in, or around, a fixed-position fireplace. its a permanent fireplace, a gas-powered fireplace, and were not looking at the gas as being an issue, were looking at the unit, itself, as overheating, and,

have their lead pipe laterals replaced. fox6's myra sanchick tells you that the work will begin next year. the common council voted 12 to 3 to move ahead with the plan to replace aging underground pipes. and homeowners will pay part of that cost. as homeowners pay property tax bills on the first floor of milwaukee's city hall. on the third floor the common council votes. hamilton the motion passes with that a multi million dollar plan will go into effect, to replace milwaukee's aging lead city streets. lead leaking into the drinking water is a primary concern. it's not fair to the homeowners to require that they pay for that. we pay too much money to the city willie hart owns a home on milwaukee's northwest side and says underground pipes and the water supply should be 100 percent the city's responsibility. they should take care of that . it's not

homeowner would pay up to 16 hundred dollars, or no more than a third of the cost of replacing the section of pipe under their property. the city would pay the rest., the homeowner could pay the cost over ten years. we understand there are going to be families who can't afford this right now. at the same time there are absentee landlords who would not be doing this if we did not mandate next year the city will start replacing pipes that bring water to day care histories of breaking. we want to assure that any leaded service lines serving the population that wuld be drinking that water of a vulnerable age be addressed first and foremost. . in 2018 other homes will be involved, homes built before 1951. there are approximately 68-thousand of them, forcing contractors to dig down deep, as well as some homeowners who will

a get-away vehicle.. it was a white license plate with light green numbers and it was a black jeep cherokee more than a month later they were able to identify the suspects in a line up. turns out the two-- along with junior moreno -- are allegedly part of the "cut throat mob" or ct mob... a group accused of dozens of vehicle thefts and other crimes. including a property theft from mixed martial arts star anthony pettis vehicle i'm very glad we were able to help out and get these punks off the street the three face a combined total 31 charges, many which are felonies-- including taking or driving a vehicle without charges, many which are felonies-- including taking or driving a vehicle without consent. police are still seeking other suspects in connection with these crimes. ted thanks derica it's time for your news and

charges after being accused of enticing a child in cudahy. officials say matthew botcher approached a 13-year-old girl last week as she walked near cudahy high school. he made an initial court appearance today -- on charges of child enticement and attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child. police in whitefish bay are warning people to look out for coyotes... this comes after officials say a small dog was attacked and killed by two coyotes on sunday. it's the bay in recent months... another dog was killed in a similar attack in october. the d-n-r has been called to figure out whether it's the same two coyotes involved in both attacks. milwaukee's slice of ice is now open for the season... the 128-by-95 foot rink at red arrow park opening this afternoon. skate rentals are available during open hours -- which vary by day. to see a complete breakdown of when the rink is open -- just go to our website fox6 now dot com and

southeast wisconsin is celebrating 21 years bringing holiday cheer to families -- from the warmth of their car. carl deffenbaugh has a behind-the- scenes lok and a special deal for fox6 viewers. for more than two decades, country christmas has lit up the december skies in pewaukee. 'its spectacular. theres nothing like it around. we are the largest drive-through lights display.' more than a million lights dazzle along a mile-long trail, winding through the woods behind the country springs hotel. 'it started with the richards family, the former owners of the hotel. with their love of christmas, they wanted to do something for the community.' over the years, its become far more than a light show. the streets of bethlehem feature nativity pieces made

started with just three pieces here. its grown to over 30 pieces.' 'the always popular model train display inside the christmas village is the result of the work of just two people - the head groundskeeper, who does the trains, and his wife, who makes all the decorations. there are 12 different tracks, almost a hundred separate cars in the display and it takes about two weeks of work to make this magic happen. overall, about a dozen employees at the hotel are responsible for the spectacle that is country christmas.
