what led to a shooting and stabbing. investigators think that both took place overnight outside sully's restaurant. the man who had been shot was taken by car to fairfax where 911 call was placed from outside the courthouse. he was conscious while being transported to the hospital if. a short time later, a man who had been stabbed turned up at fair oaks hospital for treatment. no word on his condition. >> an elderly man was critically injured after an apartment fire in mclean that broke out late last night in an apartment on old meadow road. it started in the kitchen and caused minimal damage to the apartment. a 91-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. the cause is under investigation. >> 33 years today since etan patz went missing in new york city. police made an arrest. 51-0 pedro hernandez is being held on a murder charge. -- 51-year-old. he confessed to luring the six-
rolled by the corner store by offering him a soda. >> he lured him from the school bus stop at west broadway and prince streets with the promise of soda. then he led into the basement, choked him, and disposed of the body in a plastic bag. then placed it into the trash. >> police found out about it after they reopened the case last month. they did not find evidence, but it prompted a rrelative to give them information. >> the "godfather of go-go, chuck brown, late yesterday his family and mayor vincent gray release information on a public viewing and memorial service. john gonzalez is outside the howard theatre in northwest washington with all the details. >> that's right. the mayor's office and the family of chuck brown have announced the memorial plans next week for the late star. they include the newly
refurbished howard theatre in northwest d.c., where he was a regular and we're initially scheduled a performance next month. pretty much all day on may 29 there will be a public viewing here at the theater. and on thursday, may 31, a public memorial service down the street at the convention center from noon until 3:00. there will be will closures. thousands are expected both days to pay their final respects to the late star. the city strongly courage as public transportation. this man known as the "godfather of go-go" passed away last week at the age of 75 after being hospitalized for pneumonia. he was still active, forced to cancel several shows earlier this year due to poor health. he received a grammy nomination two years ago. a section of seven streets next to the howard theatre was renamed chuck brown way in 2009.

expected in court today. tahman bradley has more. >> after decades of false starts, it looks like the case is finally over. new york city police have a confession from a new jersey man. break comes exactly 33 years after of the little boy disappeared. 33 years ago today, 6-year-old etan patz vanished on his walk to a school bus. the case was never put to rest. this morning it looks like it has come to an end. 51-year-old pedro hernandez is under arrest for the murder. police say that the confessed to the crime. he lured him from the school bus stop at west broadway and prince streets with the promise of soda. then he led him into the basement, choked him, and disposed of the body in a plastic bag, and put it in the trash. >> hernandez was picked up in
new jersey where he had been living with his wife and daughter. the arrest comes after the case was reopened last month. police when digging through a basement down the block from where the little boy lived. they did not find evidence, but they received a tip believed to have come from a relative or friend of hernandez. >> in the years following the case hernandez had told a family member and others that he had "done a bad thing" and killed the child in new york. >> the day he disappeared with the first morning his parents let him walk alone to the bus stop. it changed the way many parents send their kids to school. he was among the first of missing children to appear on milk cartons and billboards. >> his case changed america. millions of parents san and home and thought there but for the grace of god goes my child. >> 33 years later his parents live on the same block. never moved, hoping that the little boy would find his way home. police told his parents about
the confession from the man admits he snatched their child. police say they still don't have any physical evidence. they are still trying to determine hernandez's motive. reporting live in northwest washington, tahman bradley, abc 7 news. >> thanks so much. the man who hit and killed a scooter driver last september will be sentenced today. 22-year-old michael dalton pleaded guilty to slamming into this quarter on rockville pike and dragging it up to a mile before police stopped him. 30-year-old roberto nassar was killed. dalton smelled strongly of alcohol and did not pass a field sobriety test. jurors returned a guilty verdict against a maryland woman for the hit and run death of a senate candidate? in prince george's county in 2010. mutassim pettigrew was riding her bicycle and christy littleford hit her and kept driving home with the bag wedged under the suv.
littleford said that she thought she had hit a deer, but jurors did not. not it's >> this was a beautiful young woman who lost her life and was left on the side of the road in a very inhumane act. >> prosecutors say that littleford could receive 10 years in prison. pettigrew's mother is filing a civil suit. sentencing is on august 3. >> the family of chuck brown and the office of mayor vincent gray has finalized plans to honor the life of the "godfather of go-go." a public viewing will be held on may 29 at the howard here in northwest. is to pay their respects from 11:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. on may 31, a public memorial service will be at the d.c. convention center from noon until 3:00 p.m. the general public is urged to take public transportation to both events because parking will be limited and there will be street closures in the area. he died last week at johns hopkins hospital in baltimore after suffering from pneumonia.
