reeling from a deadly attack on their fellow officers. now with three officers dead, and several more injured, we are learning more about what happened. brianne carter joins is at the breaking news desk with more. the three officers were responding to a call when they were shot and killed. this morning we're learning more about the officers who lost their lives just ten days after that deadly shooting in dallas. 32-year-old montrell jackson, had been with the baton rouge police department more than a decade while 41-year-old matthew gerald, joined the forceless than a year ago. forty five year old brad garafola, was a 24-year veteran of the east baton rouge sheriff's office. this comes as baton rouge is still reeling from the killing of alton sterling, who was shot and killed during struggle with police nearly two weeks ago?setting off nation-wide protests. the suspect has been identified as 29 year old gavin eugene long, a veteran who served

five years in the marines - including tours in japan and iraq. authorities are now searching the suspect's home in kansas city. the shooting sending shockwaves across the country. and as we prepare for the republican and democratic national conventions-- president obama called on all politicians to calm down their rhetoric in the weeks ahead. good morning washington continues to cover the bloodshed in baton rouge.

updates all morning long on air and online, at wjla.dot.com. turning to the war on terror. a third american is confirmed dead in last week's terror attack in nice, france. u-c berkeley says the body of 20-year-old nicolas leslie has been identified. the california native was studying abroad when a truck plowed into a crowd of people in nice last thursday. three other berkeley students were hurt in the attack. an 11-year-old boy from texas and his father were also among the 85 people killed. isis has claimed responsibilty for the attack during bastille day celebrations. covering metro today marks the final day of phase 4 of safetrack. the phase has caused a bit of

travelers. during phase 4, a section of track from reagan national airport to the pentagon city station was shut down. phase five of safetrack begins july 20th and will effect those riding the orange and silver lines with continuous single tracking from ballston to east falls church. turning to the 20-16 presidential race. new national polls out are giving hillary clinton reason to smile this morning. she is leading donald trump in all three of them. clinton has a four point lead over donald trump in the latest a-b-c news, washington post national poll. she leads by seven points in a new c-n-n poll, and by five points in another. clinton's lead overall is down slightly from polls taken before the conclusion of an f-b-i investigation into her email use as secretary of state. the nationals cap off a three game homestand against the pirates with a game that seemed like it would never end. here's how it all got started. daniel murphy ties the game at one run a piece with

meanwhile direct flights to and from turkey to the u-s are still canceled leaving several americans stuck in the country. closer to home.. police in baltimore investigating an hours long hostage stand-off at a burger king. investigators say an armed rape suspect crashed his car outside the southwest baltimore resturaunt - trying to evade police. he then ran inside and took atleast four people including a 7-year-old-girl hostage at gunpoint. the stand off ended peacefully when the suspect released the hostages after nearly six hours.. police have not identified te
