this morning on "world news now," breaking right now two american swimmers detained in rio are now on their way back to the u.s. the new video of them boarding the plane after testifying about their claims of robbery. the crime that investigators say never happened. and a turn of the page for donald trump. the presidential candidate is expressing regret for things he said in the past. even showing remorse for causing what he called personal pain. and a grateful musician is using his talent to say thank you. >> playing a violin outside a hospital where he had brain surgery only 24 hours earlier. and the music world is rocking with this. a surprise drop overnight. frank ocean, the talk of social media with a sneak peek for fans. it's friday, august 19th.

>> from abc news, this is "world news now." >> here's very, very late. >> better late than never. >> frank ocean. >> the great national nightmare is over. frank ocean's album is out there somewhere. >> good morning to you all. i'm diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. we'll get started with the two american swimmers on their way back. they were caught in the middle of the scandal at the olympics. >> here's a look at gunnar bentz and jack conger. they're set to land later this morning. neither commented on claims that they and two teammates including ryan lochte lied about having victims of an armed robbery on sunday morning. bentz and conger spent a long day at a rio police station. they left to a chorus of boos with people calling them liars. brazilian detectives say the men vandalized a gas station bathroom after a night of drinking.

they were questioned by guards and paid for the damage, and then they left. >> the story started to unravel because of surveillance video from the gas station. police say the part about the armed robbery was made up, and authorities are recommending charges against lochte and feigen. the u.s. olympics committee has apologized to rio. they said the swimmer's behavior was not acceptable, but it's important to point out -- there are sources close to the swimmers saying they are not recanting their stories. they're saying it was a security guard from the gas station. recover damages after they vandalized the bathroom. >> in essence, a shake down, not a robbery. take a look at the videotape, and that's how some people may look at it. this is the new york daily news for today. they call it the lochte mess monster.

600 acres. in san bernardino some residents are being allowed to return home as the blue cut fire is more under control. that fire is now considered 22% contained. officials still can't say how many homes were lost. the white house is admitting a cash payout to iran was connected to a release of prisoners. the obama administration admitted a $400 million payment was used as, quote, leverage. the payment happened on the same day iran released several prisoners. administration officials insist that despite new details about the transaction, it was not a ransom payment. russia says it's ready to support a call by the united nations for weekly cease fires in aleppo. the move comes as this image spreads around the globe. it was a little boy pulled from the building after the city was rocked by another devastating air strike. >> reporter: get him down.

the young boy on this video shot by syrian activists is rushed to the waiting ambulance. but with so many more to rescue, the five-year-old, omran sits alone for just a moment, and then that instant, the single still photograph capturing his innocence. it is an image that says this is a child like my own. doctors say his physical injuries were minor and the rest of his family survived, but surviving another day in syria is never guaranteed. the five-year war has left at least 100,000 children dead. millions of other children remain inside the war-torn nation just like omran. this happened in aleppo where syrian government forces with the help of russians have been bombing rebel groups. in the last few weeks alone,
