making progress in battling a massive wildfire in san bernardino county, california. that fire is now 22-percent contained.. up from only four-percent yesterday morning. some evacuees are now allowed back home. the fire broke out tuesday, in the cajon pass, just east of los angeles. the fire has now scorched 56 square miles. many homes have burned, but it's still unclear how many. developing now-- the chicago police chief is recommending the city fire seven of his officers for covering up the details of the deadly shooting of 17-year-old laquan mcdonald. this comes after a city investigation found that dash-cam video completely contradicts the officers' account of the 20-14 shooting. the officers all said mcdonald lunged at them with a knife. the video shows mcdonald did have a knife -- but he was moving away from officers when he was shot 16 times. officer jason van dyke -- the only one who fired his weapon-- is
murder. 40 men are under arrest, after a child pornography sting investigation in new jersey. the six-month probe led to the arrest of at least one person from each of the state's 21 counties. the suspects range in age from 20 to 72. police say the arrests were the result of a proactive scanning of internet traffic. charges include possession of child porn.. and distribution of images and videos depicting children engaged in sexual activities. a new jersey man is speaking out, after troopers shot him, while responding to the wrong house. last month, state police were at gerald sykes' house by mistake, investigating a 9-1-1 hangup call. he thought they were intruders, and grabbed his gun. an exchange of gunfire followed. sykes fired one shot, grazing an officer. sykes took two bullets to the chest, and one to the groin. sykes spent nine days in the

vacationing in martha's vineyard, as people in louisiana suffer. the red cross says the flooding has already cost at least 30-million dollars in damage. that number is expected to grow. the washington monument will remain closed at least through today as crews try to fix another elevator problem. the national park service closed the monument after an elevator cable broke loose wednesday. this is the second time in a week that the monument has had to close. d-c delegate eleanor holmes norton asked for a meeting with park service officials. she says she wants answers as to why the monument has been repeatedly closed for repairs. as eileen has been saying-- we are in day ten of this heat wave and local departments are adjusting services to protect
d-p-w crews in the district say they will again start trash collections an hour earlier, at 6 a.m, instead of 7. workers are getting an early start to avoid those 90-degree temperatures. as this heat wave drags on-- it is the perfect day to get a slurpee at 7-eleven. and you can bring your own cup. the convience store chain is once again offering customers the chance to fill up almost any container with a slurpee for the price of a medium cup. there are some other limitations, like it must be clean, watertight, and actually be able to fit under the slurpee machine. but everything from empty fish bowls to hollowed-out pineapples are still fair game coming up. call it a "loch-mess".

white house. new controversy surrounding two top campaign aids for donald trump. they are accused of failing to disclose lobbying efforts on behalf of ukraine. the associated press reports campaign chairman paul manafort and his deputy, rick gates, orchestrated a covert lobbying effort on behalf of ukraine's ruling political party. the goal was to sway u-s public opinion in favor of ukraine's pro-russian government. trump has been criticized for his friendly stance toward russian president vladimir putin. last night-- the gop presidential nominee said if is elected, he will ask senior officials in his administration to refuse speaking fees from lobbyists "or from any entity tied to a foreign government." meanwhile-- former president bill clinton made a major announcement saying the clinton foundation will no longer accept foreign or corporate donations if hillary clinton is elected president. this comes as house republicans have called for an investigation essentially calling the clinton foundation
