person dead. it happened on the outerloop in springfield around eleven last night. police say only one vehicle was involved. lanes were blocked for hours, but are now reopen. the victim has not been identified. and new developments about a shooting in northeast. overnight, d-c police confirm this is now a homicide. the man was found on capitol avenue in the trinidad neighborhood. so far - no word on a possible suspect. happening today - metro general manager paul

raping a teen in falls church.. abc-seven's i-team has learned.. 18-year-old ronald herrera-contreras is an illegal immigrant. he was arrested last year and given a court order to leave the country. but he never did. authorities priority. herrera-contreras allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl off lee highway in july. he's wanted for rape, assault, and gang activity. a worsening tragedy in tennessee this morning. the death toll from this week's wildfires has now risen to 11. crews discovered the remains of more people while searching the rubble near the great smoky mountains. and right now - some people are still missing, including one mother from mcdowell county and her two young children.

of the new casino at national harbor next week. the one-point-four billion dollar casino and it's 24 story hotel will open it's doors december eighth. it's expected to draw big crowds - an estimated 20 thousand people in and out each day. and that means it also has the potential to be a traffic mess.

a suspected home intruder shot and killed in culpeper county. just before 6-30 last night, the culpeper sheriffs office received reports of a shooting on woodland church road. once on the scene, deputies found an alleged intruder shot by the homeowner. that suspect was later pronounced dead. for any other suspects that may have been involved. right now the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing. no arrests have been made. happening today - metro general manager paul wiedefeld in the hot seat on capitol hill. this, as federal investigators are raising new questions about the troubled agency's inspections. sam sweeney is live on the hill this morning. fairfax county

the next school day. the school board has approved a proposed schedule for the next school year. the first day of school will be august 28th. the school system received a waiver from the virginia department of education, allowing an early start to the school year. the last day of school will be june 15th. an environmental watchdog group is offering a thousan dollar reward to anyone who has information about the mysterious sheen in the potomac river. the mysterious substance was first spotted sunday in loudoun county.
