jonathan: first, it all lead up to this moment just a second ago. the new mgm casino at national harbor opened its doors, people marching in, and now the first crowd gets a chance to try their luck at the casino. alison: we get started right away with team coverage.

situations. tim barber is inside the casino, watching the first guests pour in. tim, show us around. tim: well, everybody else has gone through the door, so why not. inside this historic moment is the grand opening of the mgm. people coming off the elevators from the parking area, then walking right into theas thousands of square feet, tons of gaming machines, and this is the first opening. it is a 24 hour operation. tonight was loud and in your face. it had las vegas pizzazz with hollywood elegance. we even spotted sarah jessica parker signing shoes at her new boutique.

time. working with per george's county and prince george's community college. tim: if gambling is not your thing, no problem. you can pamper yourself at the spa or catch a show at the 3000-seat theater. the project is creating 4000 local jobs. the 24-story hotel has hundred hotel rooms that cost a few hundred dollars up to several thousand dollars per night. there are 15 restaurants, including the restaurant fish. again, this is a 24 hour operation. we will have crews here tomorrow with a first look at the first full day. this has been a long time coming. people seem to be enjoying it.

everyone excited to get inside now that it has officially open. yes, bear with us, you will see traffic on oxon hill road, but again, not getting here on the interstates come just getting into the area, towards the right-hand side, the prince george is police department out here in full force, doing a wonderful job. if you are debating whether to come here, yes, come. just know it will take abo 1 park, but it is worth it. it is now open and traffic is not terrible this evening. in mobile track seven, jamie sullivan, abc 7 news. alison: people actually happy to be stuck in traffic. we never see that. the area around the casino is jampacked, so how are drivers doing with the traffic? tom roussey has with the drivers are saying. hey, tom. tom: hey, alison.

for one thing. the traffic is not great, but it's not as bad as it could be. they have had a little weight, but not too bad. we have a lot of police officers directing traffic, especially closer to the casino. off to the right, you will see the line. the vast majority of those cars are headed trying to park, which i'm hearing is more and more difficult. there is a line to do that. we spoke with drivers and asked how rou how has it been approaching the casino? moving ok or slow? >> a little hectic, but moving along pretty good. >> not too bad. it is been a parking lot the last 50 minutes. we will see how it goes. it's a lot quicker than a trip to vegas. tom: worse than you expected, better than you expected? >> about what i expected, based on what i saw on the news.
