were on the brink of taking the entire city. a withdrawal was supposed to start early this morning as part of the deal, but just in the last thirty minutes, buses that were supposed to transport people returned to their depots. new this morning.. new laws are now in effect in arlington, to protect consumers from predatory towing. late last night, the county board approved amendments to a towing ordinance. one of the new requirements: improved signage. another change: tow truck drivers will now have to photograph the vehicle at all four corners. this will provide the owner with safeguards, should their vehicle be damaged. the board delayed the implemention of one law until july

that law requires towing companies to get a business owner or employee to sign off on whether a car should be towed. happening now - v-dot is getting the roads ready for winter. crews have been out brining the roads to keep them from icing over as the cold, below-freezing temperatures arrive. as eileen mentioned - we could be seeing a wintry mix of sleet and freezing this weekend. meanwhile, in upstate new york winter weather turning deadly. police in greenwich, say a 12-year-old boy was killed and another was hurt after getting trapped in a snow bank. the boys were playing in the snow near the side of the road when when a blow went by. it's still unclear if the the plow buried them, or if the boys snow fort caved in. the area was hit with up to three feet of snow sunday and monday and more could be coming tomorrow. developing now.. a federal grand jury has indicted a d-c public schools employee on a drug charge. rita gray is accused of conspiring to import five kilograms of cocaine into the u-s.

investigating an armed robbery. officers say two suspects walked into a convience store, flashed a gun and stole cash. the store is on south reynolds street, near the intersection of duke and van dorn. not far from landmark mall area no one was hurt. so far no word on a possible suspect. developing now.. mounting questions after an unarmed elderly man was shot to death by police in california. the officers were responding to a call about a man with a gun in bakersfield. they shot 73-year-old francisco serna seven times- then found out he wasn't armed. serna suffers from dementia- and was out walking in the middle of the night. serna's family says it's possible police mistook a crucifix he

often wore for a weapon. police are defending their actions- saying officers are trained to use deadly force properly. baltimore city hits a grim benchmark, notching their 300th homicide of the year. a deadly shooting in northwest baltimore tuesday night marked 300. last year the city hit the 300 mark in november and in 2015 the city broke a 44-year record with 344 homicides total. and the violence continues..after shots were fired last night near coppin state university. in that incident, a gunman opened fire at a car in the middle of an intersection. a campus police officer quickly jumped into action shooting and killing the suspect. bill cosby returns for day two of his key pre-trial hearing in pennsylvania this morning. it comes after a shouting match in court on tuesday. a judge had to scold lawyers on both sides. the arguments were over whether to identify the women who have accused the comedian of

shooting at sandy hook elementary school in newtown connecticut. on december 14th, 2012 a gunman opened fire inside the school killing 20 children and six teachers. the school has since been torn down and rebuilt. this morning, a group of gun violence prevention organizations from virginia will honor the victims during a monthly vigil and rally at the nra headquarters in fairfax. it's life in prison for a rockville man who fatally stabbed his neighbors, then hopped on a cruise ship. scott tomaszewski was sentenced yesterday in the deaths of dick and jodie vilardo. the murders happened early on mother's day, last year. thomas-shev'-ski broke into the house, and stabbed the couple. thomas-shev'-ski did take cash and jewelry. prosecutors say within two hours, he was on his way to dulles to fly to alaska for a family cruise. he was a

later, after police linked him to another burglary in the neighborhood. montgomery county students may not like this.. if snow days pile up next school year, students could lose some of their spring break in 2018. school officials say two make up days are built for bad weather but if the winter weather is severe spring break could be at risk. montgomery county's school system has closed for inclement weather an average of about 5 times each year during the past decade. the school board also marked potential makeup days from june 18th to 21st. the school year will officially start tuesday september 5th, 2017. today the greene turtle is doing it's part to make this a very special holiday for hundreds of needy children. this morning-- the company present a check for more than 93-thousand dollars to toys for tots. it represents the total they raised during the 11th annual "tips for tots" initiative last week. all that money was already used to purchase lots of new toys-- less than 2 weeks before christmas. temperatures not too bad today - but

now to the trump transition.. president-elect donald trump plans to meet today with some tech leaders. they include executives from apple, facebook, google, amazon, and microsoft. yesterday, trump announced, he's chosen montana congressman ryan zinke as interior secretary. trump has also chosen former texas governor rick perry as energy secretary. last night, trump appeared at a "thank you tour" rally in wisconsin with house speaker paul ryan. trump supporters booed ryan. at last night's rally, trump praised the accomplishments of his secretary of state nominee, rex tillerson. trump said tillerson "will be a fierce advocate for america's interests around the world." right now the countdown is on to inauguration day. we are now 37 days and about 6 hours away from the inauguration of donald trump - and prfeparations are in full swing. suzanne kennedy joins us live from

now.. actor alan thicke has passed away at the age of 69 of a sudden heart attack while playing hockey with his son in los angeles yesterday. alan was best known for his role as dr. jason seaver on abc's growing pains. accroding to alan's website the show is still syndicated in over 65 countries.
