sleeping, lawmakers take the first step towards dismantling the affordable care act. after an overnight marathon, the senate approved a budget measure that would allow a repeal vote to take place with a simple majority. that legislation to repeal obamacare could come to a vote next month. but it's still unclear what will replace the affordable care act. the house is expected to vote on the budget tomorrow. new developments in the deadly stabbing inside the westfield wheaton mall. this morning - montgomery county police say they have a suspect in custody abc seven was first to report the arrest last night at eleven.. suzanne kennedy is live in wheaton with more.. suzanne? breaking overnight -
a hazmat situation forces an evacuation at d-c's ritz carlton hotel. fire officials say around ten last night, people reported a strong odor... after someone apparently sprayed some type of construction chemical in an area with poor ventilation. one person was evaluated by e-m-s. fire crews stayed on scene to air out the building. right now- all lanes are back open on new york avenue, after a deadly 3-car crash. the wreck - leaving one of the cars completely mangled. one person was killed, and another hurt. this happened in northeast near the intersection with florida avenue. no word on what led up to the crash. in the trump transition - three new cabinet confirmation hearings set to begin this morning on capitol hill. first up - defense secretary nominee general james mattis. current law prohibits anyone who has served in the military in the last seven years to have a top leadership position in the pentagon. that means congress must approve his nomniation and also pass a law providing an exception for mattis, who retired three years ago.

the suspect accused of gunning down an orlando police officer. police have arrested and charged three people with aiding markeith loyd after he allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend. his niece was arrested wednesday on an accessory charge. later that day an ex-girlfriend of loyds was arrested on similar charges. and on tuesday, loyds supervisor at a fried chicken restaurant was also arrested for an accessory charge. the manhunt for loyd has entered it's fourth day and more than 500 tips have come in to assist in the search. all that rain in california is beginning to take a toll.. a home in hollywood hills is in danger of collapsing after a landslide took out part of a patio and its foundation. firefighters say rain-soaked ground gave way causing thousands of pounds of concrete to fall onto the street below. fortunately no one was injured and the homeowner is out of the country. nearly two fe

a 16-year-old was gunned down inside her own bedroom new years day. for the first time since her death, a vigil was held outside of howard high school for charlotte zaremba. 15-year-old sean crizer walked into her room and opened fire before turning the gun on himself. crizer who was also a student at howard high died days later. classmates are still trying to come to grips with charlottes death. investigators say evidence linked crizer to two burglaries in the neighborhood, prior to charlotte's death. she was laid to rest on saturday. a motive in the shooting is stil uknown. today marks two years since smoke filled a yellow line metro train at the l'enfant metro station. one woman was killed and dozens more were sickened. earlier this week, metro asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit related to the incident.
