3 later this morning fire investigators will return to the scene of a workshop fire that broke out late last night in buncombe county. firefighters remained at the workshop on shope creek road until well after three this morning. the riceville fire chief tells us no one was inside when the flames broke out just after 10 last night. right now there is no word as to what caused the fire. 3 3 3 macon county is hoping to get help from the state after recent flooding caused more than 700-thousand dollars in damage. preliminary estimates show more than 30 homes and 23 roads were damaged. officials there have now sent a request for a damage assessment. that could determine if any money will be made available to residents and businesses affected by the flooding. 3 3 this morning, we're showing you products to help keep your

advanced missile technology, in theory, north korea could possibly hit the mainland united states. but u.s. officials are skeptical. north korea has often bluffed over what they have, and there's no way to confirm today's claims. joohee cho, abc news, seoul, south korea. 3 3 also happening today, a friend of one of the san bernardino attackers will appear in court this morning. enrique marquez was a friend of sayed farook. he is accused of conspiring with farook to provide material support to terrorists. authorities believe marquez bought rifles for farook and his wife to use during the deadly attack in san bernardino on december second. 3 3 tomorrow marks one year since terrorists stormed the offfice of satirical magazine, charlie hebdo... killing 12 people, including some of france's most famous cartoonists. five more lives were lost in attacks in france in the following days. charlie hebdo is publishing a special edition to mark the anniversary. the cover shows a blood-smeared, god-like figure with a gun--and the words "the

3 3 a driver is facing charges after leading officers on a high-speed chase through three counties in north carolina. it was all caught on a patrol car's dash cam. it started in valdese and went on for 20 miles until it ended in lincoln county. speeds reached over a hundred miles an hour. deputies say the chase started as an investigation into a crack cocaine operation. it all ended when deputies deployed stopsticks to stop the car. the driver is now charged with felony fleeing to elude. 3 3 a developing story out of hickory this morning... following allegations of sexual misconduct and more involving the public housing authority there. officials are accused of sexually harassing tenants and mispending taxpayer money. the city council has now passed a motion to change the administration of the agency. that will not abolish housing or displace tenants. council members will hold another hearing later this month... to decide exactly how to change that administration. 3 3 a high school senior in chapel hill was killed during

mackenzie ruston would have been 18 years old yesterday. on monday, she and the pilot of a small plane were killed just north of the alpine wyoming airport. friends say she loved to fly and was working on her pilot's license. officials say she was not at the controls when the plane went down. so far, it is not clear what caused the crash. 3 3 an elderly couple takes matters into their own hands, landing a suspected burglar behind bars. the couple says they found a man dressed in camouflage .. rummaging through their stuff at their home near fayetteville. so the man called 9-1-1.. and 'got' his 'gun'. 3 < rick suehr/victim :"i felt really violated that somebody would take the initiative, would have the audacity to break 3 into somebody's house while they're there. and it just made me realize how happy i am

3 buncombe county schools roll out a plan to put digital devices in the hands of students. all kids in grades four, five, and six, will receive those gadgets this school year. it is part of a three year plan that eventually provides touchscreen devices with keyboards to grades four through twelve. 3 "the kids have had a lot of experience with laptops in our computer lab, but to actually have their own computer on their own desk and to be learning with that computer instead of pencil and paper, they're just really excited." the north carolina general assembly plans to transition funding for textbooks, to funding for digital learning
