3 the city of asheville gives an update on the snow cleanup progress. news 13's lauren brigman joins us live from downtown. lauren, city crews are now turning their attention to neighborhood streets? right... because we had so much snow, they have been mostly focused on main routes, especially those used by emergency responders. now they are getting to those streets in your community. the city's street services division continues to work 24-hour shifts to clear the roads.

3 3 they ask you to call them if you see large patches of ice or snow that need treatment by the city. those numbers are 828-259-5852 or 828-251-1122. to help with snow removal, free parking was allowed inside the downtown parking garages... and today normal operations will resume for those. if you leave a parking deck anytime after ten this morning you will have to pay. starting at 8am those using the parking decks will have to pull a ticket. 3 parking enforcement and meter collection will also resume downtown, where it is safe. coming up at 5:30, i'll have information about the art bus schedule. live in downtown asheville, lauren brigman news 13. 3

it could start costing you some serious cash. the city gives property owners 48 hours to clear sidewalks. then can start fining people 100 dollars a day, up to 5- thousand dollars if they are not cleared. when news 13 showed up at "preferred properties" on woodfin street, they immediately got out their shovels. 3 17:58 "it was like the last thing on my list today, my list was, i had to get my clients back up and taken care of, before i thought about oh god, the sidewalk" a couple of businesses told us they did not know about the ordinance. it went into effect in 20-10. and if you are a renter., check your lease because tenants can also be held responsible for clearing 3 3 many businesses closed because of the snow... and that's having a financial impact on some workers. plato's closet opened in west asheville after being closed friday, saturday, and part of sunday. that is a substantial hit for hourly employees who cannot make up the lost wages with vacation days. some people turn to eblen charities

" terry sawyer of asheville came to eblen for help with his rent. the roofer says he slipped on ice saturday, and cannot work for six weeks. 3 3 3 happening today... a pair of murder suspects in henderson county is expected to be in court. shawn hollifield and savannah walker are accused of killing deque taylor in december. probable cause hearings are scheduled for both of them today. taylor was found dead along ninth avenue in hendersonville. according to search warrants, taylor's cousin told police a drug deal was involved. two others are also charged in the case. 3 3 a proposed apartment project in south asheville... that's raised concerns with the public, is now being delayed. developer rusty pulliam confirms that he is asking city council to postpopo a vote on the project. that vote was scheduled for today, pulliam is asking that it be

ownersf 3 the owners of the sunken cargo ship "el faro" have reached a settlement with ten of the crew's families. court documents say tote maritime will pay each of the 10 families 500-thousand-dollars to settle pending lawsuits. el faro sank in october of last year, after getting caught in a category four hurricane near the bahamas. all 33 crew members on board died. legal claims for the remaining 23 families of lost crew members are still pending. 3 3 shocking cell phone video is surfacing from texas, after road rage sparked a violent confrontation in austin. witnesses say prior to the fight, the men made rude and obscene gestures to each other from their cars. when the light turned red the men got out of their cars. the two drivers fighting were already gone before police arrived at the scene. officers are investigating the incident as an aggravated assault. 3 3 take a look at this... a suspect attacks a prosecutor in the courtroom right after he is found guilty. the

people jumping out of their seats -- including the judge. as deputies tackled the suspect, the prosecutor tried to jump in for some payback. michael cox had just been found guilty of criminal sexual contact for fondling a girl. 3 i was able to get a hold of the defendant and use the least amount of force possible to go ahead and detain him to get him under control now cox could be in more trouble. they say that the quick thinking of deputy smith defused what could have been a much worse situation. 3 3 3 3 the asheville art museum is about to get a lot bigger. coming up... the party with a purpose. 3
