3 the beargrease marathoners of minnesota are well on their way back down the shore, many of them at or nearing the final checkpoint. they've run 310 miles by the time they get there. the weather is not as warm as it was at the start, but that is actually better for the dogs. veternarians are at the checkpoints to make sure the dogs are not getting too worn. the teams have been trickling in all night... some still have miles to go before they pull in to duluth and finish the race. 3 3 good morning... good morning... 3 it's wednesday, february third. i'm holly headrick. and i'm jay siltzer good morning. here is a look at current conditions across the region. your day planner shows temperatures warming by noon. coming up, i'll show you our 7-day forecast for both the mountains and upstate. 3

3 3 3 we are learning new information this morning about a fire that destroyed a home in woodfin. news 13's lauren brigman is live from the woodfin fire department. lauren, firefighters were on the scene four hours overnight. we are told that dozens of firefighters from multiple fire departments responded just after 9-30 last night, and were on scene putting out hot spots until 2-15 this morning. 3 from the video, you can see that flames were shooting through the roof of the home on stratford drive. the fire then spread through the attic.

as crews were battling the fire, it did not help much. plus, a woodfin firefighter tells us crews also had issues with the water system because the hydrant closest to the house was not working, so they had to go up the road about 500 feet to find a working hydrant. 3 41:39:21 we're having some issues with the water system tonight but we have multiple trucks here providing a lot of water and we're getting the job done as best we can. 41:48:39 collins says the family of four made it out safely and without injury. the fire marshal continues to investigate the cause of this fire... but officials believe the home is a total loss. 3 coming up at 5:30... more on why the rain did not provide relief for crews as they battled this fire overnight. live in woodfin, lauren brigman news 13 3 3 3 there is no rest for the weary on the presidential campaign trail. bazi kanani reports... with the iowa caucuses now behind them, the candidates are rallying voters in new hampshire - less than a week away from that state's

his event for today in the upstate. it was supposed to be this morning at limestone college in gaffney. he was also scheduled for a meet and greet with voters in spartanburg. the republican presidential candidate's campaign says its because of logistical issues. his campaign is working to reschedule the events. 3 3 3 an autopsy reveals a toddler from haywood county died from a brain injury caused by blunt force. earlier this week, a family member said she believed 17-month-old kyler presnell suffered carbon monoxide poisoning instead. he was staying with relatives at a home on underwood road near canton. first responders were called to the home on sunday morning. they tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. 3 0147 "everyone that has had any kind of contact with the child is being interviewed at this time." 01540310 "it's by far complete, they are doing such a wonderful job to get justice for kyler." 0316 kyler's parents learned about

jail on break-and-entering charges from last month. that is why the little boy was staying with relatives. 3 3 3 new this morning... the former macon county board of elections director has been released from jail. kim bishop turned herself in to asheville police on monday. bishop pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to one count of embezzeling. she will be sentenced later on that charge. bishop resigned in may of 20-14 after investigators found dozens of fraudulent checks came from her office... totalling more than 50-thousand dollars. 3 3 investigators in mcdowell county are still searching for a fourth suspect in a counterfeiting case. three others are already in custody, but the sheriff's office is still looking for april evans. last summer, the sheriff's office received several reports of fake money being passed at local businesses last summer. in september, they stopped one of the suspects for driving a stolen vehicle and found 11 pages of fake uncut 20-dollar bills. two others were also arrested. 3 3 more than three thousand dollars worth of baseball equipment was stolen from chase high school in

it is currently a pre-k through sixth grade. so far the school board has not made a decision. 3 3 a rutherford county employer files for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. horsehead holdings is the nation's largest zinc processor. company president and c-e-o jim hensler says filing for bankruptcy will allow the company to restructure. the company plans to continue operations while it restructures, but idled the rutherford county plant last week. local residents say the impact of the bankruptcy will be felt across the county. 3 ray pruett, owner of ray's mini mart. "very sad for rutherford county because like i said the county is already struggling for employment. and i have several customers and they are kind of at a loss as to what they are going to do" horsehead employs 730 people from north carolina to pennsylvania... including about three-hundred in rutherford county. a small crew will continue to work there during the temporary shutdown. 3 3 3 3 coming up... new belgium delays the opening of its asheville brewery. why
