56 in augusta currently. 49 in charlotte. and in asheville right now they are at 39 degrees. in columbia we are at 57 degrees. winds are still from the west at 12 miles per hour. the air mass is dry. for toninit we expect near calm conditions and clear skies. we will get down to about 29 degrees. tomorrow it will be sunny. we will see a high temperature of 58 degrees and then tomorrow night we should drop down to 33. then, let's take a look at traffic on this friday afternoon across the area. the overview. to talk about. we will talk about that in a minute, but we have a slowdown going on right now in the northwestern part of the city. you can see i-26 here going into malfunction junction, the average speed is about 11 miles per hour, but it is slow coming out of the city. and broad river road has quite a bit of a slowdown there. on the southeast side of town there is an accident right here on the southbound lanes of i-

affecting traffic too much. we have a bit of a slowdown as you head out the sumter highway. also an accident at clemson road and stockalbury lane. a little slow on clemson road but it is getting better. the interstates are better, a slight slowdown on thebound lanes of i-77. from downtown to clemson road it should take you about 14 minutes. we will have the rest of the weekend forecast coming up. jim, thank you. a letter from the department of revenue is showing that there are major issues with the richland county tax program. the letter says everything from failure to perform required audits and also public relations expenditures are issues, however council says they are working hard to address these problems and have 30 days to do just that. a man is behind bars charged charged with sexual

20-year-old nicklaus maurice yeaden contacted the viim online and requested the victim perform sexual acts on him. he was arrested monday and could face up to ten years in prison. this morning a richland county's vehicle was hit after a person dropped out of a vehicle. it happened on saddle trail road. the richmond county deputy sasa the stolen car that had been reported. the driver jumped out, but the car kept moving, hitting the no injuries were reported but the search for the suspect that jumped out of the car continues tonight. a deputy was fought in a corporal kim better gift is expected to be okay but it will take some time. a suspect shot her after she pulled him over. she was wearing her body armor at the time of the shooting but the shot hit her below the armor. the suspect was found with an

president obama is nominating a south carolina supreme court justice to be a federal judge. the nomination of don beatty of spartanburg could shake up two races in south carolina's highest court. the state judicial merit screening division is accepting applications for a chief and associate justice on the south carolina supreme court next year. beatty would be the longest serving supreme e court justice and lawmakers could vote him chief justice. a number of legislaturors have quietly opposed beatty. apple has made their first official response to the government's demand that they help the fbi hack into the locked iphone of one of the san bernardino killers. e company says the government is asking for dangerous power through the court system which tramples on people's constitutional rights. the claims are made in a court filing in washington. google is expected to throw its support behind apple as well.

shooting yesterday in kansas. investigators say cedric ford was served a protection from abuse order 90 minutes before he opened fire on his co- workers. the order was likely what triggered the attack that left three people dead and hurt 14. police killed the suspect during the attack. we have information now on an admission from the folks at seaworld. the ceo admitted it asked employees to pose as animal rights activists to spy on critiques. the company asked employees to infiltrate the ranks of peta to get information about the protests and tactics. the program is dangerous and unethical so he is ending it. seaworld canceled its orca shows amid chris residual from animal rights groups. if you are looking for a family vehicle with cheap insurance, honda'smy, the odyssey, may be it.

what exactly is in that parmesan cheese? now a man filed suit? inspects a federal court claiming he was misled by the label. he says he paid the premium price for this great value parmesan cheese but according to the complaint the product contains 10% sell lows, a filler derive from the wood pulp. well, even oprah may not be enough to boost business for weight watchers. it was a rough day for oprah's wallet as stocks for weight watchers fell 27% in midday trading. the diet company expected a quarrel loss. stake in the company shrunk by as much as $27 million in one day. ouch! subscribers fell by nearly 5% in the last quarter. they have been struggling against fitness gadgets like fit bit and free weight loss apps. oprah bought 10% stake in weight watchers back in

darcy, how many years ago was this. >> i had a baby. 11 years ago. >> we joined weight watchers together ten years ago. the problem is if you have done the weight watcher's program it is basically counting calories, assigning a food a point and figure out when you are done eating for the day. i bought the app on my phone, fitness tracker, that does that for free, so they are having a hard time competing. >> yes. that is the tough part. i think the other good thing about weight watchers for people that it works for is the accountability factor. you have to go, you have to weigh in. even now you don't have to do it because you can do it online, be you for folks that go, weigh in, need a friend and have someone to give you the gut check when you haven't lost weight or gained weight. the thing about oprah, nine times out of ten if she touches it, it turns to gold so weight watchers was hoping that would happen. >> she was, too.

columbia, 30 in sumter and 32 in orangeburg. tomorrow temperatures are about the same. 57 in newberry, 56 in camden, 58 in columbia, maybe up to 60 degrees in orangeburg. in our seven-day forecast it will be even warmer on sunday as winds begin to pickup from the southwest. 68 degrees. 70 on monday, 72 on tuesday. we will be seeing some rain coming in tuesday night to wednesday morning. a high temperature with 66 and we will cool off to 60 on thursday. then we will see another chance for morning rain showers on friday with a high of 58. all of that will be out of here in time for the usc game next friday. an important one since they are playing clemson, ladies, back to you. >> thank you, jim. next on facts at 5:00 today, this weekend is the time to stay home and rent your oscar movies.

orangeburg today campaigning. clinton held a forum at south carolina state university. she just wrapped up a few minutes ago, as a matter of fact. she and -- she said president obama does not get enough credit for turning the economy around and said she stood by him on the affordable health care act and vowed to do more to help young people be able to afford education. >> meanwhile, senator bernie sanders held a rally today as part of the operation get out to vote. he is also hosting an event at the township auditorium here in columbia that is currently under way. that is the last picture you can see there. we will be at both areas and have live team coverage for you on air and online at wltx.com.

70 on monday. 72 on tuesday. early wednesday morning we expect to see rain coming through and we will turn cooler with a high temperature of 66. now, let's get an update on the traffic around the area this afternoon. we have things to talk about. we have had a few more accidents since the last time we looked. it appears the accidents are expanding. let's go first of all to the northeast side of town where we have an accident on brickyard road at two notch road slowing things down a bit. the interstates are in pretty good shape. a little slow down on the northbound lane of i-77. on the southwest side of town everything there is moving in great shape. however the accidents are popping up here on i-20. we have two accidents that hopped up on i-26. the average speed is about 8

from downtown to harveston boulevard it will take you about 15 minutes. drive careful out there. a lot ladies, back to you? >> thank you, jim. a letter from the department of representative is showing that there -- revenue is showing there are major issues with the richland county tax program, from failure to perform required audits and excessive public relations expenditures and administrative expenses that are prohibited by law. however, kim says they are working -- council says in he are working hard to address these problems. >> we have renew in the beginning stages of this. it will be a fluid program. but we will be making changes as we go along and revamp and make it better. a couple years in we will assess where we are, take all the comments into consideration and then we will make assessments as needed. things we need to change more, we will assess the entire program. not just specific area, but the program to make changes as needed.

respond to the department of revenue about their concerns. and the dorr va medical center is hosting a national access day tomorrow. similar events will be held around the country, and the goal is to improve veteran's access to needed health care services. our hospital here in the midlands will have an open house from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the main lobby. visitors can learn about the souths they officer here at the hospital and get information about the va benefits and there will be information on resources available to homeless veteran, as well. midland is estimating 30,000 people still need help with flood recovery. the united methodist church has $1 is million 750,000 ready to help families that -- $1,750,000 ready to help families that still need help

dangerous issues in to change. >> reporter: it has been more than a year since governor haley issued an executive order, creating task force to address one of the state's most dangerous issues. according to the violence policy center, south carolina's rate of women murdered by men doubles that of the national average. >> we need to create a new culture where there is not acceptable anymore. >> reporter: one of three divisions of the governor's task force handles services to victims and offenders. >> too much crime and not enough money is the problem. >> reporter: this meeting was to look at how last year's recommendations are being implemented today. >> just a wide range of task force recommendations that we are addressing. >> reporter: like victims' advocates case loads. >> some have and add adequate number of assistance and some don't. >> reporter: and screening

>> many times a survival -- a survivor finds pain in disclosing they are a victim. we want to provide a safe place for them to open up. the task force and the commitment of the governor and all this involved, we are bound to change the culture in south carolina. there spring the governor task force is planning to meet at a summit to first address efforts for domestic violence prevention. last april the city council passed an ordinance that went into affect at the start of 2016. anybody that owns a current or vacant residential structure has to register it by march 1st. the new leaders say unoccupied homes can attract crime and become a fire hazard. this decision was meant to increase public safety.

welcome back. we are talking about gardening. yes, it is just about this time of year. we don't need to do soil testing yet. it is a little early for that, but we will talk about getting gardens ready for planting. we are talking potatoes today. we are planting yukons. they are really not that hard. there is one thing you need to know about planting potatoes. they need to be on a three year rotation. which means we won't plant them in the same place every year. you need three different places to plant potatoes because you need to rotate them. this year it will be near where our wire latches are where we will be planting cantaloupe a little later. i have this already staked out and i marked the trench. basically you have to dig a ten.

dig a trench. that is what i am going to do now. it needs to be 8 inches to a foot deep. then you put compost in at the bottom, you plant your potatoes and cover them then you just follow the directions on the back of this package and you will be in good shape. we learned a couple things. first of all this soil last year still had a lot of clay in it. so, it does make it difficult with potatoes. so, what we will do is dig the trench. we will take the dirt from the trench and build up the side so i don't have to make it quite as deep and we will fill it with mushroom compost. we found out when we did the read new orleans we got great results. that is what we will do this
