that is one saving grace for us this morning. it is cold but at least it doesn' t feel colder. 8:00 a.m., clear, chili, holding close to where we are right now, 21 degrees at noon area sunny, cool, 35. by 4:00, warming things up into the low 40' s. yesterday, the high was only 36. today, we jump into the 40' s and keep our temperatures above average and climbing into saturday and sunday. lisa: 4:32 right now, the gloves came off in new hampshire last night. bernie sanders and hillary clinton pounded one another in their first one on one debate, just days before the primary. wlwt news 5' s miriah turner is at the live alert desk with a recap of the lively debate. miriah: very lively. sanders has a big lead in new hampshire polls but he was just as fiery last night as clinton even though their tactics were not the same. hillary used the evening to emphasize her similarities to bernie sanders who' s currently out-polling her in new hampshire by 20 points. their debate reprised an argument between the two. about whether or not clinton

she then accused sanders of smearing her credentials. hillary clinton i really don' : think these attacks by insinuation are worthy of you. and enough is enough. if you have something to say, say it. bernie sanders instead of : arguing about definitions, let' do. miriah: very heated, as you saw. the two also sparred over health care and wall street last night. this is the first time clinton and sanders have debated without former candidate martin o' malley who suspended his campaign after the iowa caucuses. now all that' s left to do on the democratic side is rally for last minute votes for tuesday' s new hampshire primaries. from the live alert desk i' m miriah turner. lisa: as for the republican side a new cnn poll shows donald trump has the most support, with 29%. marco rubio has 18% of polled voters support. while ted cruz has 13. ohio governor john kasich is not far behind with 12%, and jeb

mark: two new york city police officers are being treated at the hospital this morning after they were shot and wounded in the bronx last night. police said the male and female officers were on patrol in a public housing complex when they were confronted by an armed man who shot them. police say one officer was hit in the face, the other in the abdomen. both officers have only been with the nypd for two years. the suspect reportedly fled the scene and later shot and killed himself. he was a man people trusted, a foster parent and youth leader a volunteer in the schools. but now he' s accused of sexually abusing a child. wlwt news tammy mutasa found out more about the northern kentucky man charged. and just how much access he had to other kids. tammy: joseph niemeyer was supposed to be a trusted youth leader at the new banklick baptist church. >> we' re all just heartsick. tammy: but now he'

raping and sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl in his independence home. police say the abuse went on for 3 years. >> we take the precautions but as far as what they do in their own homes, we don' t know a whole lot about what goes on there. tammy: and for the past 3 years kenton county school officials say he had access to more children, volunteering at twenhofel middle school they say he worked with the fca -- the fellowship of christian athletes. >> he was never alone with our students at twenhofel middle school. tammy: the district says he passed a background check. >> safety is our number one concern and we' re cooperating with the police with this. tammy: the church pastor says neimeyer had even more interaction with children as a foster parent. those who knew him from another church he went to can' t stomach the charges. >> i was very shocked and i immediately started praying for the family.

that was tammy mutase reporting. detectives are still investigating to see if there are more possible victims in this case. after a back and forth fight a retired ohio police officer will be allowed to keep his k-9 partner. the city of marietta has come up with a plan, where matt hickey. can buy a-jax for one dollar. hickey retired last week, but his k-9 partner was too young to s property. s very grateful that he gets to keep a-jax. and is going to continue to push to get the law changed. collects -- >> we' re gonna work hard, with the state of ohio. we' re already working on it. this is not just, as you know, it' s not a tool. it' s not just a tool, it' s a part of the family. ajax was going to be put up for auction, when social media helped raise $70,000 for the retired officer to buy a-jax. his plan is to donate the money

brooks' boyfriend survived. trial postponed for the driver, accused of hitting five utility workers, in west chester. michele schuster was scheduled to go on trial on monday. but that has been moved to march. police say, she was under the influence when she crossed several lanes of traffic on cox road in april hitting the workers. one of the victims died. schuster faces nine charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide. mark: 4:52 your time another , local golf course closes for good. but work is already underway for a new housing development there. vista verde golf in liberty township has sold its property off milliken road. to welsh development. developers say they plan to build 145 single family homes worth between $200,000 and $400,000 each. those whose homes back up to the golf course are not happy that their view is about to change. >> we' d see deer back there and geese, they were back there, a
