8:33 am
also expecting some people who are not big trump fans out here they have designated off to the side where people can come and protest the event in a peaceful manner but everything has been going pretty smoothly there have been some passionate people on both sides but everybody has been playing nice so far. ucf is working closely with a local police and ucf p.d. to make sure everything runs smoothly. if you are headed out here there are several things you do need to remember. you're not allowed to bring any large bags or backpacks. signs also not allowed in the arena. gemini is closed for a portion of the road there in front of the arena so just make sure if you come, plan accordingly and, of course, trump dominating the polls all across the country and here in florida. it should be interesting to see the turnout here and kind of just what comes out here. we'll have crews all morning

for now reporting live here at ucf, gina benitez, "fox 35 news." >> andrea: gina, thank you. an exciting day for florida in politics. a rally today in the sunshine state florida senator marco rubio who will hold a rally in jacksonville. he's still taking shots at trump after their grudge match on thursday night. rubio also scored an endorsement from the "orlando sentinel." the paper is endorsing the senator saying he's the last best hope. also happening today voters are heading to the polls in 5 more states. the gop field will be fighting for delegates in kentucky, kansas, nebraska and maine and the louisiana primary. meanwhile, delegates inside the as well. this comes just days after a contentious debate with candidates attacking donald trump but it was john kasich who many say avoided the cheap insults. frank torres is in studio to talk all about it. >> good morning. >> andrea: lots of people calling kasich the winner of thursday night's debate.
8:35 am
standing with voters this weekend. 444444444444 for john kasich not very much he's polling last since ben carson is out of the race. he has a lot of work a lot of voters find him dull even though he does bring a good amount of the substance above all the inis stills and stone throwing. he's going to remain on his home city and home state to try to save his campaign. >> andrea: how is he doing in ohio right now compared to trump. >> like marco rubio -- >> really. >> they call it the trump juggernaut it is what it is. it's a group of outsider republicans who are really attaching on to his members of the jury and i think that's what you're going to see a lot at the arena at ucf. >> andrea: we had 2 for 2 where trump really came away victorious minus a few states. do you think he'll be able to weekend. >> there's no reason why he won't be able to. i mean, he just seems unstoppable at this point. he can say whatever he wants.
8:36 am
block and he keeps rising and rising around the polls it's unlike anything been seen before in american politics it's very unexplainable by both analysts and scientists alike. [laughter] >> the displeasure with the entire system and he seems to be the alternative on the republican side right now. >> andrea: it is so fascinating and i think more and more people are getting interested in politics and because it's creating such conversation. >> absolutely. you've seen a lot of voters, register ed registered, independents to republican to vote for donald trump. independents to democrats vote for bernie sanders because they're seeing these candidates that are preaching an alternative message involving them and attaching to them and really getting them going in this election they want to vote in these primaries and they want to take sides and get involved. >> andrea: in previous election years they would probably be considered fringe candidates yet they're front and center. let me tell you about rubio and cruz they stole a few states during the last super tuesday event. >> unfortunately, this weekend isn't going to very well it
8:37 am
donald trump -- a lot more donald trump delegates and with rubio, just off the road jacksonville he's putting all of his eggs in the florida basket. he needs to win his home state and he can't win his home state he's going to have a lot of serious questions to answer and whether he wins his home state or not will depend on what cruz's future is if he can be able to -- it's all about being the alternative to donald trump and those who can round up the delegates he can establish himself the alternative. >> andrea: i'm still baffled by the whole mitt romney thing. what was mitt romney's point of that? was he putting himself out there to possibly make his presidential run because he didn't really favor cruz or rubio in his is indicating remarks about donald trump. >> i'm sure the republican leaders if they had a chance mitt romney they would take him in a heartbeat. >> andrea: yeah. >> his road to any sort of potential revolves around a complicated brokered convention which is -- which would be a political war like we've never seen before. he'd have to commit to the last
8:38 am
delegates it would be very unlikely he would get the nomination not completely out of the nomination. he was preaching to the choir yesterday. he didn't change any minds it was probably people who agreed with him in the past. >> andrea: we were testing the limits for the political process we have to talk about the democrats sanders not backing down from hillary clinton despite her leading status. what happens for sanders this weekend and for clinton as well. >> you know, i expect hillary clinton will continue to pile on with the delegates. bernie sanders is going to have to lean on big march 15th where he's going to have to make something happen. here's florida, we're up in ohio. a lot of supporters are all right down here in orlando, knocking on doors and phone banking to breathe some life into this complain. >> andrea: any surprises from the big donald trump rally we're expecting today. >> i think it will be a fun event and it's -- it's better than for them not paying attention we're going to have a lot of fun talking about it. >> andrea: gee whiz we had have a lot of fun. frank thank you so much. always great to see you.

that's the good news and so much napping central florida -- so much happening today. we want you to get there safe and sound and it's bike week this weekend and if you're sharing the road with motorists like this take care. we want everyone to have a good time and stay alive in the weekend into the 10-day bikefest as well. welcome back to "good day orlando." i'm andrea jackson. thank you so much for waking up with us. here's the top stories we are working with you starting with "fox 35" gina benitez. >> reporter: donald trump set to speak here at the arena at ucf later on this afternoon. coming up i'll show you all the action out here plus what you can expect if you plan on coming out. >> andrea: gina, thank you. scammers tried to trick money out of these victims. if your kids are taking the s.a.t. today they're going to see a lot of changes on the test. we're going to break down the s.a.t. review coming up but first let's find out what your weather forecast is looking like today. good morning, leslie.
9:32 am
were you a good s.a.t.-taker? >> andrea: i think so i think i held my nose and plugged my ears -- >> meteorologist: i was not. i'll be interested about this story. let me show you this. we've been talking about the clouds back there and thank you whoever did that picture i think that's in toc. we're getting some different cloud pictures you can see we've got some high clouds over downtown but still plenty of sunshine to go around but we've got a little bit of some clouds just kind of lifting in from the gulf of mexico that might bring in a little bit of filtered sunshine but really it's going to be fantastic out there this weekend. this our webcam over in cocoa beach. the two surfs right here have disappeared but there's just not a lot of wave action so i think they're having a hard time trying to get the board up and going this morning. but still beautiful weather over at the beaches. we've got lots of sunshine expected. it's a little cool over there now we're still in the 60s. 66 now over in cocoa beach. winds out of the north at 7. and i think that was them.
9:33 am
there as we get lucky. surfside will be only a foot they'll be lucky if they can get something out there. winds are northeast and the temperature outside in the air will be in the lower 70s later today. most of us again are in the 60s and 50s. it is beautiful. albeit just a little cool definitely a little cooler this morning than yesterday by about 10 degrees give or take. but we will get into the lower 70s as i mentioned today lots of sunshine expected. all right. we're 69 as we head into 11:00 this morning. 2:00 about 76, plenty of sun and at 5:00 in the mid-70s and then cooling back down into the 60s at 8:00. coming up in just a few minutes we're going to talk about spring, it's only 15 days away. don't tell that to the forecast. details coming up. >> andrea: oh, and the dreaded time change, too, all right, leslie, thank you. you decide 2016, donald trump bringing his campaign to the central florida today. he's holding a rally at ucf this afternoon. "fox 35" gina benitez live outside the arena where the rally is taking place.
9:34 am
atmosphere. gina, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, yeah, it is a party out here. there are hundreds of people already in line waiting to hear him speak later on this afternoon. they got here early so they house. seats, of course, are first come first served. a lot of people have been out here since 5:00, 6:00 this morning and if you take a look here in front of the line here, you can see all these booth setups. they'rexx selling some @ somep people have cardboard cutouts here. lots of merchandise. a lot of supporters out here some diehard fans but there are people here who are not big@ trump fans. across the street here they arep protesting, of course, his rally here at the school. they have a` sign that says islamophobia. going. they expect several hundred people later on this afternoon.
9:35 am
closely with campaign security and local law enforcement to make sure everything goes smoothly. so far everyone has been staying nice we do have some passionate people on both sides here but everybody has been playing nice as i said, everything pretty peaceful at this point. if you are planning on making your way out here and going to the rally this afternoon, there are a few things that i do want you to remember, do not bring any large bags or backpacks into the arena. you also can't bring signs and gemini here is shut down from west plaza down to orion. you can see these barriers but definitely plan accordingly 23 hours plan on coming out but the garages are open. there's plenty of parking, a lot of signage. it's pretty easy to get around but again just plan accordingly. we'll be out here all morning long, all afternoon and evening bringing you the very latest from the rally for now reporting live at ucf, gina benitez, "fox 35 news". >> andrea: gina, thank you. great advice as well. t-shirt vendors and cardboard cutouts on@``@
9:36 am
so you know@ it's@ a rally. marco rubio will hold` a rally in jacksonville and he's still taking shots at trump after their grudge match, what some call their grudge match thursday night. rubio also scored an endorsement from the "orlando sentinel" they are endorsing rubio saying he's the last best hope. also happening today voters are headed to the polls in 5 states. they'll be fighting for delegates in texas, kentucky, maine and kansas and louisiana. delegate guess will be fighting for he be in, kansas, louisiana as well. it comes 10 days after a fiery republican debate as candidates were fighting donald trump but it was john kasich who came out on top. we spoke with frank torres about kasich's performance has affected the polls. >> he's pulling last now that ben carson is out of the race and, you know, he has a lot of work to do. a lot of voters find him dull even though he does bring a good amount of the substance above the insults and stone throwing.
9:37 am
his home state of ohio in order to save his campaign and moved.@ early voting -- [inaudible] >> what in the world? >> ready, set study, changes to the s.a.t. are effective immediately. students start taking the test on saturday but this new version might mean less stress. >> we are getting rid of the obscure vocabulary. the so-called s.a.t. words that students studied for, for the s.a.t. but then frankly didn't use again throughout their 4 years in colleges. >> reporter: and then there's this. >> we've gotten rid of the guessing penalty. we really want students focused on answering questions doing their best work on the s.a.t. rather than strategies or tricks about whether or not they should be guessing. >> reporter: if you want your kids to get a better feel of
9:38 am
on at home. >> we have put together a partnership with khan academy and we have launched free online personalized practice available to all students. >> reporter: the website is easy to remember s.a.t. practice.org. there you can find full range practice tests. kirstin delgado, fox news. >> andrea: the s.a.t. now has fewer questions, 154 compared to 1 officer 1. another tough loss for the orlando magic. the team taking on the phoenix suns last || night. the guys from fox sports can bring it all down. >> the orlando magic hosting the phoenix suns. phoenix has had quite a rough season but they put it all together on friday night. 102-84. the big story in this one, nick anderson the play of alex lad going for a career high 31. he had it going inside and out magic had no answers for him. >>|x well, heq set t he tonej ) early,o0@g@
9:39 am
he was beating you up on offense. he's taking a contact he didn't shy away from it and he was aggressive and he has a big game tonight. >> he had the jumper going and 50 rebounds as well. he had a career high at the time where the magic with 21 points the first meeting that goes for a new career high with 31. he's averaging almost 21 points a game. his last 422 from the floor alex lad leading the phoenix suns to victory. so, brian, you have to get about this one a disappointing as it was you got to head out west right away. you get the golden state warriors who are trying to make history with their 45th consecutive victory if they can beat orlando on monday. >> you don't want them to go out and break the record. i think this is -- we don't see very spirited orlando team coming into that game they played jet stream well for 3.5 quarters against them at home. hopefully it will be a great night for orlando and just a much better performance win or lose. >> absolutely.
9:40 am
this one and then go out and give them heck. >> out there at golden warriors steunanimous curry who is playing phenomenal. 7:00 on fox sports florida. join us monday night at 10:00 fox sports florida the magic visit the golden state warriors trying to prevent history. we'll see youggxgxg`@ then. >> andrea: and a new soccer season in the city beautiful they kick off their second season tomorrow at the citrus bowl. they are taking o nh$@ddlr real southlake. match time 2:00 pm8 .p` you'll see a sea of purple in downtown orlando. a crime alert, police are warning residents about receiving calls from what appears to be a number from the orlando police department. officers say someone has been spoofing the opd number making it look like someone from the department is making the call. the caller is asking for money officers say no one from the department would ever ask for payment over the phone.@ if you suspect someone is spoofing call back the agency on their official phone number.

we'll be back >> andrea: welcome back to "good day orlando." we want to wish you a very happy birthday if you're celebrating it today. >> my little one is not -- this weekend but the 14th. >> andrea: oh! very good. okay. so let's take a look at some of the celebrates you might be sharing a birthday with. actress eva mendez. >> meteorologist: such a pretty lady. you always go low with the ladies. [laughing]
9:45 am
>> meteorologist: i'll go 36. >> andrea: in our 2. >> meteorologist: -- 42. >> meteorologist: i was going to get for their. -- -- 40. >> andrea: all right. michael ervin. >> meteorologist: oh, lord, i don't know, 60? >> andrea: 52. 50! wow! apparently we're not basketball aficionados. [laughter] >> nor birthday aficionados. you're too fun. leslie, a gored weekend. >> meteorologist: i know, it is so beautiful. we're so close to a spring officially 15 days away usually out in florida we get really warm but we have been loving this weather. it's just perfect weather and i'm so excited and there's so much going on this weekend we got, of course, orlando city soccer going on. we got daytona bike week going on and you can see we've got some of these high clouds overhead they've been kind of sitting around the last couple
9:46 am
too much for us. we're expected to have plenty of shining as we head through today and no rain in the forecast probably dare i say for the next 5 to 7 days, you never say never when you're talking about the weather but it does look really good. we got no big cold fronts headed across the region now, we've had some colder air or cooler air move into the area so it's a little cooler out there than it was yesterday and if you're in under some of these clouds it feels a little cooler than 61. miles an hour. look at our camera moving right as i speak but we do expect to see some of these high clouds overhead as we head through the day today. and that -- it's not really limit the sunshine. we're expected to be in the mid-70s as we head through the afternoon. 65 right now over at melbourne. 61 here in the city and as i mentioned a build to about 75 before all is said and done. so cool start to the morning, for the next couple of days and then plenty of warm sunshine and then warmer weather, dare i say is on your way and on tap for
9:47 am
so here's our little scale and we'll kind of take you out today and through friday so the average for us this time of the year is about 76 so we're going and then just a little bit above as we get into next week. i actually may have to tweak these numbers. it might be a little warmer than i got it here so we'll be in the mid-80s but again humidity is so low it's going to be so nice out there i hope you get a chance to enjoy it. especially if you're here for spring break. all right. i got satellite picture up. i like to show this because it really shows the texture of the clouds and you can see those clouds again not really stick around central florida but it's a belt line of these clouds across the region so we'll these same clouds throughout the day today. most of the eastern half of the countries little expected to warm up. we're going to see temps in the 70s all the way up into the northeastern part of the country -- not tomorrow but on monday and much of the country will see this swirl of warmer weather as we head into the next 4 to 5 days and then we see444444444444 change but for now it's going to be very warm
9:48 am
for us we got winds out of the north to the northeast those will be picking up tomorrow so if you've got some plans to do beach and boating, probably today is the better of the 2 days but really tomorrow is not bad just a little windier out there because the winds will be coming onshore and might create a few more winds -- a few more waves for you. we saw some surfers earlier today trying to catch some rains over in cocoa but they had a hard time. 76 is our current number for the afternoon highs. really nice out there. winds out of the northeast at about 5 and then tonight, 53 degrees, clear skies, chill. it looks like we will have a northeast wind as well. 7-day forecast looking mighty fine. temperatures in the mid-70s through monday into the lower 80s after that and we'll get into the low 60s for the morning allows. >> andrea: let's show you a cute and little sweet -- look at this one. i love this. mckenzie is so -- she is down to the count for that tea party. >> yes. >> it happens. >> oh, my gosh! [laughing]
9:49 am
spontaneous but this is done at a photography studio. >> meteorologist: it might be. >> andrea: it's so perfect but i still love that. it's so great and it's so creative. >> meteorologist: look at that teapot [laughing] >> andrea: let's investigate. so cute. it's so easy if you want to showcase your baby here's what you do is take when they these cute little pictures and you're going to head over to our website and you're going to upload it. we have a whole section called weather babies and you can show us your photographer skills and we would love to show your baby. we would love to show you your baby and -- and get that little one on tv, back to you. >> andrea: all right, leslie, thank you. she's moving outside our garden guru. the 75th annual daytona beach bike week this week. more than 500,000 people expected to attend and some $75 million in the area.
