more funds for cancer research. biden was rumored to make an appearance at the jefferson- jackson dinner this weekend in des moines, but his announcement today also puts those rumors to rest. jack: andy mcguire with the iowa democratic party weighed in on biden's announcement. she says it won't make a big difference immediately in the candidate pool. but it will make this weekend's jefferson- jackson dinner even more important for voters on the fence. "there are a lot of people who are coming to this dinner and they do want to see all of the candidates and they want to hear their vision. and they haven't made up their minds. so, this could be possibly a turning point." jack/2shot: besides the news about joe biden not running, you've probably seen on social media today that it's "back to the future" day. that's where marty mcfly made predictions of what the world would be like on ocotber 21st 2015. and presidential candidates like carly fiorina are using the special day to push out her campaign messages. fiorina's special website....10-21-

"there are

to drier easterly winds. friday will be our day of showers and a few thunderstorms likely. i think we will get a major wave of rain come through late morning to early afternoon, then a bit drier in the late afternoon. then more showers will be possible in the evening. clouds may linger into saturday, but we should have the sun back for saturday afternoon into sunday morning. brad/2wx: that's all for my forecast. check out for the latest in weather . stephanie/2wx: thanks brad.

jack/2bam: i'm here with sports director jon schaeffer, and jon..... let's talk about another big 12 coaching newcomer jon/2bam: yeah jack steve prohm isn't the only new face in the big 12. coming up on local 5 sports we'll hear from shaka smart about how far back he and prohm go.
6:17 pm
with jon schaeffer. we are iowa sports" jon: welcome back-- the turnover in the big 12 isn't very high-- you have a list of names like lon kruger or bill self who have been with their respective teams for years. but steve prohm is a name that is new to the conference-- but he isn't the only one-- shaka smart has taken over at texas. the longhorns parted ways with rick barnes after last season when he went 20 and 14. barnes had been
6:18 pm
last 17 years. smart makes the jump to texas from vcu-- where he helped the rams get to the final four in 2011. smart and prohm are by no means new acquaintences. but both are under the microscope to see what they can do in their first years with big 12 competition. smart expects a lot from prohm-- and has a lot of respect for the new iowa state head coach. "we talked a lot when i was at vcu and he was at murray state. but we've talked very very little since we both made the moves. that's just because we've been really really busy we texted a couple of times, we were really busy but we were at uh our former schools we would communicate quite a bit about different ideas we would use with our teams. i mean he was extremely positive and has some great motivational stuff that he uses with his guys so i love talking with him about that stuff. " the cyclones and longhorns don't meet until january 12th when iowa state goes down to austin. it'll only be the 4th game of conference play
6:19 pm
for the cyclones a great road test early. jon: the chicago cubs are pulling out all the stops-- the chicago cubs are pulling out all the stops-- well at least they need to. down 3 nothing going into game 4 tonight at wrigley-- the cubs need to find their bats again. to the credit of the mets-- their pitching has been lights out. the cubs have lived and died by the long ball this post season-- and in these three games it's been pretty absent. but tonight chicago has called upon thomas ian nicholas-- the actor who played henry rowengardner in the rookie of the year-- to come out to the game. it's in hopes of bringing good luck-- and for the first time since the movie he'll dawn a rowengartner jersey at wrigley. but in all seriousness whatever luck it may bring-- the cubs have their backs against the wall. don't plan on manager joe maddon to change a thing in his clubhouse as far as what he needs to say to his team. here's what he had to say after last night's loss. " i don't have team meetings i don't believe in them. for me to stand up and give a speech has nothing to do with tomorrow at all. our guys know how to come prepared to play, i expect the same thing tomorrow. the mets have just pitched exceptionally well, and you have to give them credit in these three games so from my perspective
