but they can't find him. hes a person of interest in the deaths of 36 year old bryon howard and 31 year old heather belieu who were found dead in a home on center street yesterday afternoon. local 5's claire powell has been speaking with belieu's family and is on the scene now. claire? claire: heather belieu's brother ryan told me earlier today he met michael wanchanic- the person of interest- just last thursday when he came here to the same house where the double homicide happened. he seemed quiet and didn't stay long. now des moines police are actively searching for him in hopes to get answers to what happened just before three yesterday afternoon. when police arrived- they found both howard and belieu dead inside of the home. currently police have not released how or a motive as to why. police also removed two children from inside- heather's family confirmed all four of her children are currently staying with family and are ok.

explained his sister had been dating howard for years and the two had just had a baby in march. today, while flipping through family photos, no one can understand what happened or why. "cause anybody that did knows that they got the chanec to know her, she was a blessing. she was a really special person and she'd do anything for anybody she could" " claire: now according to polk county accessors page- a john wanchanic owns this house. we're unsure of the relation to the current person of interest- michael wanchanic- who is considered dangerous. police believe he could be driving a 2002 beige dodge grand caravan with iowa plates dmr 234... but we've

" the story county sheriff's office is confirming they conducted a welfare check at this home at 101 first avenue at the request of the des moines police department. they're also confirming it was in connection to the double homicide. they say they came around five-thirty yesterday evening looking for a woman named peggy reed -- but she wasn't here. i've been speaking to peggy reed's family all morning and they tell me she used to date wanchanic a few years ago and have kids together. just an hour after police responded to the scene in des moines ... they say wanchanic picked her up here in slater and took off. it's unknown whether or not it was against her will ...but they say they are very concerned and hope she will get out of this unharmed. again wanchanic is believed to be driving beige-colored 2002 dodge grand caravan, iowa license plate dmr 234. you are asked to call law enforcement immediately if you see wanchanic or his vehicle. we'll have more on the latest developments of this case tonight at ten. in slater kattey ortiz for local five news we are iowa. more on this story coming up at 10. stephanie: metro drivers got to experience a new interchange off i-80 today the new grand prairie parkway is a diamond shaped intersection - and it officially is open! it's the first of it's kind here in iowa, and one of just 19 in the nation. so how does this new intersection work... here's a simulated overhead look. (stephanie point this out) essentially both lanes of traffic cross at a stop light, then drive on the opposite side of the road over the overpass. there they hit another stoplight that lets you cross back to the proper side of the road. there are a lot of things put in place to make sure you stay on the right side of the road. we were out at the new interchange this afternoon to
6:04 pm
most drivers navigated the diamond without any problems, but it's still hard to tell how it will go over once more traffic goes through the area in the coming years. developers say it'll help provide relief to other major interchanges and arterial routes in the metro area including jordan creek parkway, university avenue and hickman road. jack: even though his status hasn't changed much in the polls, jeb bush is drawing good crowds in iowa today. jack: folks in newton are hearing the republican presidential candidate tonight. bush made stops in waterloo and dubuque earlier today, and talked about his views on climate change and the summit president obama attended. local 5's josh haskell is live in newton to tell us more about what jeb is saying -- josh? josh (adlib) " i just worry about it i haven't seen the

"nats of kids playing. thousands of kids with special health care needs come here to childserve in johnston. in one year alone, this place will help 3- thousand families. about 75 percent of those families use medicaid to help pay for the services they receive. 20:54:56 everyobody wants to konw what's happening, some of those questions, we don't know what the answers are going to

the president and ceo of childserve. he says families have successfully used medicaid to help with services for 25 years. he says the change from medicaid to private companies is made even more complicated by a quickly approaching january first deadline. 20:53:31 somehow these families will have to be assigned to companies, figure out how to work with us and us with them. as families receive enrollment packets in the mail, telling them companies, many are worried the care at child serve might change or that they won't have a way to pay for it. child serve is helping them answer questions as best they can with the information they have. 20:55:09 some of the transition is involoving that really hasn't been fully understood yet. reporting in johnston, amanda krenz, local 5 news, we are iowa."

"(alex giaimo) the goal from day one for the hawkeyes has been winning a big ten championship. now they'll get their chance on saturday against michigan state in indianapolis. two teams that pretty much match up dead even on paper. be here right now so you know, but it is, you know, i say that tongue and cheek because it is important to us. it's not like we are out there just winging it. uh, we are probably the team that's not supposed to be there so you know, what the heck, let's go cut it loose and see what happens. (giaimo) ferentz will take his chances against a team with striking similarities to his own. both averaging about 33 points per game and dead even in turnover ratio. (henry kreiger-coble) top to bottom they are super experienced and the guys they have out there. i mean they are big guys, i mean they look like an nfl d-line, they are just huge, atheltic, and explosive guys, so that's what makes them good. (austin blythe) yea they've got a lot of good athletes up front and they work to finish plays and we got to get after them to, you know, kind of neutralize that. (giaimo) ferentz and his hawkeyes know that it's not a matter of stopping the spartans but more a matter of containing them. (cj beathard) it's hard to play a perfect game but we are going to have to play well and execute. we can't make many mistakes you know they are a good team but i think we are a good team, as well. (kirk ferentz) they are going to make plays. they are going to make plays offensively, defensively, special teams. and how we respond to those things really is going to dictate the success that we have or not. championship
