on the way there and will bring you the latest when we get it. stephanie/1shot: moving now to a tragedy this week on the iowa state campus. 18 year old urbana resident and isu student emmalee jacobs was killed in a hit and run yesterday morning on the isu campus. she was found lying in the road at ash avenue and lincoln way. it's our big story today. "we believe the person felt the impact, knew what happened, based on her injuries. they were significant enough they had to feel the impact." stephanie: police have narrowed down the time window of the hit and run to between 7:04 and 7:05 am yesterday, that's monday morning. stephanie: ames police are asking that anyone with information call them or story county crime stoppers. the information is there on your screen. stephanie: more news from isu... iowa state students succeeded today in their yearlong campaign to ban e-cigarettes in the city of ames.
led the state in approving a smoking ban in public places before it even became a state law and now it will be one of two cities in the state. to ban e- cigarettes. "i think it is pretty cool,. as you know we are the second city in iowa to do it, behind iowa city but it is a big accomplishment. even though it seems that e-cigarettes maybe less harmful than real cigarettes. providing clean air in public places is a big public health priority, so. " stephanie: this is all part of an effort of iowa state kinesiology and working to create a culture behavior. council voted 5-1 to create an ordinance banning the e- cigarettes in public places. jack: sports director jon schaeffer joins us now to preview a special interview he'll have later in sports. jon: thanks guys. today i had a chance to sit down with iowa state's new
matt campbell. we talked about football, family, and what he does for fun away from the game. but with christmas fast approaching-- i asked campbell what this time of year means for him. take a listen. "it's about family, it's about getting home to my family so we'll take through next week and then get home for christmas and just to be around our kids and my wife. and really just kind of sit down and be really grateful for all of our great blessings it'll be tremendous. they are still suspects. it's just a block drake security was first on the scene. jack/lam: welcome back -- now. women have been arrested after four children in their custody tested positive for drug. this happened in the home they share in the 800 block of east 12th street north. 29 year old cristy clark and 28 year old somer speer are charged with child endangerment of a 2, 4, 6, and 9 year old. clark and speer also tested positive for meth and admitted to using it while caring for the kids. jack/lam: the man arrested for stabbing and killing his brother earlier this year has been sentenced. 33 year old frank turner took a plea deal after charges were dropped down to attempted murder and going armed with intent. he's getting 30 years in prison. he must serve 17 and a half years before he can be eligible for parole. stephanie/1shot: and the department of natural resources wants to know what you think about

experts" james/wxc: welcome back. i'm local 5 meteorologist james peterson. james: let's take a look at we are iowa's most accurate forecast. james/wxwall: weather adlib: the metro was soaked with 3.78" falling from saturday night through monday making this the wettest december of all time not only for the metro but most of iowa. tonight it will be cloudy again with lows in the mid 30s strong southerly winds. rain and a wintry mix will be falling across central and northwest iowa, but that will turn into snow in northwest iowa by wednesday morning. northwest iowa will likely see accumulations ranging between 1 to 2 inches with totals increasing as you move towards south dakota. we are going to be dry but cold through the rest

welcome back. iowa state guard naz mitrou-long is done for the season. this news coming after the senior sat out sunday's game against arkansas pine bluff to rest his hips. mitrou-long had surgery in the off season on both of his hips. he has dealt with persistent discomfort this season and needs more time to recover from the arthroscopic surgeries according to the press release. naz has applied for a medical redshirt which would allow him to return next year. the big thing for iowa state is they are losing a proven leader on the court. this weekend deonte burton will make his cyclone debut and it couldn't come at a better time. naz will hope to return next season if his medical redshirt application is accepted. he has played in 8 games this season averaging over 12 points per game and 15 total assists this season. jon: meanwhile northern iowa is getting ready to try and contend with iowa state
arena. it's the big four classic-- and this isu vs. uni matchup is one people wanted last year. but none the less-- this year surely will not disappoint. the panthers have already knocked off north carolina-- the number 1 team in the nation at the time. albeit-- the tar heels didn't have marcus paige. still ben jacobson is ready to try and slow down the cyclones saturday night. it's not an easy task-- but jacobson has had a week to prepare his team for the coming challenge. state tip off at 6pm that game will air on espnu. iowa state dropped a spot to number 5 in the ap poll today-- they stay at number 2 in the coaches poll jon: today iowa state announced that tom manning will be iowa state's new offensive coordinator. manning was brought in by matt campbell to be the offensive line coach. the two worked together at toledo. it's another hire by campbell that shows he's sticking to the people he trusts most. i asked him about the hire today up in ames. "tom manning becoming the offensive coordinator here's a guy that really is one of the super stars right now in college football. you know the success he had as offensive line coach and run game coordinator at toledo called our running game the last three years has done a phenomenal job and obviously the proof is in the pudding a little bit as i like to say so you know i think he's a great leader of men and will do a great job and just really fortunate to have a great staff around me.
