across the center line, and struck a truck traveling westbound.... both drivers... as well as a third adult and three small children were all injured in the crash and taken to unity point hospital the fort dodge community is now rallying around one of the familes involved in the crash... nikki: a go fund me has been started for brooke ford and justin henry and three small children... the amount has been increased from 20 to 60 thousand dollars since the page was started yesterday. nikki/1shot: perry police say alteast five people have been injured in a two vehicle crash this afternoon... it happened on highway 141 and 8th street in perry.... police are releasing few details at this point, but say the crash involved two vehicles and the driver that caused the crash will be facing charges. stay with local five for this developing story... we will release more information as it becomes available to us. nikki: police in newton are asking for your help locating a missing 12 year old girl... they say charlene rachelle brown was last seen at a residence in newton. the 12 year old is described as a white female, 5'2, with brown hair and brown eyes.

seen wearing white and blue flannel pajamas. if you have any information about her whereabouts, contact the newton police department at the number on your screen. nikki/1shot: a cow is found slaughtered on its owners property.... now the guthrie county sheriff's office is investigating whether the bizarre crime is linked to burglary at a nearby farm operation.... first a report came in of a possible burglary at a farm operation near 270th and quail avenue south of monteith. a truck and car are believed to be involved. while investigators were collecting evidence they discovered a cow on nearby property had been butchered in its pasture near 320th and ranch trail north of menlo. they say it appears someone intitally shot the animal as if they were hunting it... officals think the crimes happened either on christmas eve or christmas morning. if any one has information, please contact the guthrie county sheriff's office. the information is there on your screen. nikki: a small town is celebrating the renewal of an old family favorite. the grand theater in

being closed for renovations, for years. peklo joins us now with more to rebuild. jacob/bam: nikki, for decades, the knoxville theater was a symbol ofa busy but then, the company decided it wasn't worth keeping up, and the doors closed in 20-11. community members made it a goal to rebuild it, and now thanks to hours, the theater is back ever. hard at work inside the but he was sad to see had been in his families since the 19-60s. curt schwanebeck, knoxville resident: "it was greatly missed. i would go to other theaters around surrounding towns, and people from knoxville would see me in the lobby ask me, when are we going to open, when are we going to have a theater again?" steve van sant, knoxville resident: "we'd have to travel to des moines. that was the nearest theater for us." community members took notice of the sadness around town, and agreed to rebuild it. dylan morse, grand theater foundation president: "we thought it was going to be a couple coats of paint and some new carpet. we knew that we needed the digital projection system, but we thought we could

warrior thing while we were operational." instead, they ended up gutting the building, and hoping that people who missed it could help bring it back to life. donations poured in from all over the country, more than $500-thousand dollars all total. now, you can see the work, from the new popcorn machine to the long lines, waiting to get in. dylan morse, grand theater foundation president: "we were able to do everything we wanted and more and bring back some of the historic fabric of the building in addition to bringing back some of the new equipment and seats, which are the best in the industry right now." a new d-l-p projector screen was the finishing piece to the puzzle. volunteers say they're getting access to the top films and making it a memorable family experience. dylan morse, grand theater foundation president: "we wanted to keep prices low, admission prices, concession prices low so that families could afford to come out. we wanted people to bring the whole family, and come several times a week if they want to come." jacob: the theater is open seven days a week, and it's drawing in guests from all over central iowa. if you'd like to learn more about its history and showtimes, check out this

iowa-dot-com. live in the studio, jacob peklo, local five news. we are iowa. nikki: today was boxing day in the u-k, canada and many other former and current british colonies. if you're unfamiliar with the holiday, it has nothing to do with the sport of boxing. much like black friday, it's become a major shopping day in nations where it's celebrated. among its traditions, people in rural areas go fox- hunting and for a drink at the pub, not necessarily in that order. nikki: and back here in the metro, plenty of people were ready to celebrate boxing day, with beer and a soccer game at the royal mile downtown. local 5 photographer ryan davidson took a look inside. nikki: the royal mile opened at 8 this morning and will stay open until 2 am for the festivities. happy boxing day everyone! nikki/1shot: in other holiday news-- today is the first day of kwanzaa. kwanzaa was founded in 19-66 as part of an african celebration of the first harvest it has been celebrated here in the metro since the early 70s. and today there was a celebration at the eddie davis community center, giving metro community members a chance to celebrate family, community, and culture. "it gives us a moment to stop reflect on our past our history those that have come before us those whos shoulders we're standing on that helps us focus where we are now " nikki: kwanzaa lasts until january 1. and each day leading up to the first will celebrate one of the seven principles of kwanzaa. nikki: today, fed ex was under fire for failing to get packages delivered before christmas. abc's mara

" nats - music 'twas the night before christmas? your package was late? you'd paid extra shipping? to arrive by the date?. santa had come - but your presents had not? nats - when's this package gonna get here? fedex had shipped some - but still missed a lot. sot - social media - where's this fedex guy? overnight, fedex workers taking care of thousands of missed deliveries? opening offices and sending out drivers for an unprecedented christmas day shift? the company, making up for delays that it says were caused by bad weather and an overload of last minute orders. sot - they're open til 1. they just called and i got here as quick as i could. the shipping snafu- creating an uproar on social media? hunderds of people blaming the company for ruining christmas? one customer tweeting (gfx) "you sure know to drop the ball"? another posting (gfx) "thanks for delivering my things late and playing with my emotions'? sot - phoner - they put these advertisements out that it's definitely gonna be there. i should be able to trust it. but others are backing the workers... sot - i almost feel like they don't get enough credit - but big shout out to all of those fed ex drivers

nikki: in your local election headquarters now-- nikki/bam: the candidates were off the trail for the holiday, but the campaign heats up again tomorrow with the clock ticking down to the first two big battles of the presidential race. abc's devin dwyer has the story from the white house. nikki: in eastern china -- rescue teams are working against time to save 18 workers trapped after a mine collapsed. eleven others have reportedly been rescued since the collapse happened on friday. authorities say that further rescue operations will be especially dangerous, due to the risk of another collapse. nikki/2ram: a very fun day for the hawkeyes out in california today... jordan: it doesn't matter if you're a kid or a d-1 football player, a trip to disney world is fun! coming up, the hawks party with mickey and the gang, plus one hawkeye fan gets the best christmas surprise, all that coming up next.
