this presidential race definitely has his attention. 9:02 my interest level has been more this year than past years just because of the spectacle, the ads, and the mudslinging, and donald trump, who's garnered at lot of attention. amanda the voters i talked to today agreed on one thing - even though they're educated and knowledgeable of the candidates and the presidential race, it won't necessarily translate to a good turnout on caucus night. we'll see if that's true, in four more weeks. live in the studio, amanda krenz, local five news, we are iowa. jack/2shot: thanks amanda. stephanie/2shot: well, if you are planning on participating in the caucuses or just voting in the general election this november, you'll want to make sure you are properly registered. stephanie/2shot: today, secretary of state paul

meteorologist brad edwards. certified by weatherrate the independent weather experts" brad/wxc: welcome back. i'm local 5 chief meteorologist brad edwards. brad: let's take a look at we are iowa's most accurate forecast. brad/wxwall: weather adlib: i feel one of the worst things about winter is how cloudy it can be for so long, and those clouds definitely put a damper on temperatures monday. as we head into the
skies, but hopefully everyone will see at least some sunshine tuesday. if we do get a little sunshine as expected, we should warm up close to 34 in the metro by afternoon with also the help of southerly winds of 10-20 mph. granted, those winds will make it feel colder because of the wind chill effect, but that is the price we have to pay to bring in milder air the next several days. the clouds will likely return wednesday along with some light rain showers in the afternoon/evening. locations to the north are more likely to have a mix of precipitation types, so there might be some slick roads there. a more significant rain/snow will come our way thursday evening with mainly rain expected here with again a mix to our north. this will be in association with a fairly large and slow moving system that will keep our precipitation chances around friday and maybe even into saturday. it looks like the metro will stay warm enough for mostly rain with maybe
change to all snow by friday night into saturday. northern counties will be more likely to have accumulation from this system through saturday where several inches of snow will be possible by saturday midday. by sunday, drier and much coming in to stay with us for much of next week. so, get ready for the coldest winter so far with highs in the 10s and low in the 0s! brad/2wx: that's all for my forecast. check out weareiowa.com for damper on temperatures monday. as we head into the night, some areas will see partly cloudy skies, but hopefully everyone will see at least some sunshine tuesday. if we do get a little sunshine as expected, we should warm up close to 34 in the metro by afternoon with also the help of southerly winds of 10-20 mph. granted, those winds will make it feel colder because of the wind chill effect, but that is the price we have to pay to bring in milder air the next several days. the clouds will likely return wednesday along with some light rain showers in the

tough 87-83 loss to oklahoma...you can't always win every road game in the big 12... wednesday prohm and the gang return to hilton for coach's first home big 12 game. and he knows if you want to contend for a big 12 title, you have to first and foremost win at home... "if you win your home games and win on the road, you know 5-4 on the road, you're going to have a chance at 14-4 i think kansas won it last yeat at 13-5 i believe. but 13-14 wins, because of how good this league is, i think is going to put you right there. so obviously taking care of home is huge. you know looking at our record last year, we were 12-6 yesterday would've been a plus one in the plus one column, because we lost up there last year. but we gotta chance if we can take care of home this week to be a plus one, because baylor got us here last year, but it's about tech wednesday and if we do that, we've won our first home game. and so you gotta win at home and then put yourself in position to
on the road." the cyclones are ranked 13th in the newest ap rankings. kansas is the new #1, with oklahoma now 2. those two face off tonight in lawrenece... iowa is into the rankings for the first time at #19 after wins over then #1 michigan state and #14 purdue. isu's next opponent, texas tech, just on the outside looking in, receiving votes. more cyclone news... redshirt junior deonte burton has been named big 12 newcomer of the week for the 2nd straight week. burton averaged 18 points and shot 72.2 percent from the field last week. in his four games since becomming eligible, he's shooting better than 67 percent, which has some calling for burton to start, but deonte says he likes being that spark off the bench. "i just been focusing a lot on my shot, just because i know if i'm shooting a good percentage behind the three then that opens up the floor for everyone, not just me. i like being the spark for this team, starting, everyone's making a big fuss about starting, but starting is just the first people to come off the bench, so it's
jordan: over to women's hoops, since starting 2-3...the iowa state cyclones have been on a tear. isu didn't lose a single game in december and has now won 8 in a row! clearly this is not the same isu team that began the season. talking with coach bill fennelly, i asked him what sparked such a rapid change for his squad... "we had a terrible november, in a lot of ways. we didn't play well, we didn't coach well, we had injuries, illness, it was just a really bad couple of weeks. and when we came back from our thanksgiving trip, literally we took a calendar and i ripped the november one off the wall and we made a december calendar and said let's start over." "i think we all just needed a clean slate. new month of december and we had a lot of motivation going into that month, just because of the tough games that we faced and the losses that we had. so i think it was just about coming hard, ready to play, ready to get back into the iowa state way of things and so far that's what we've proved and now we just need to continue that as we
