local 5 news at 6. we are iowa." jack/ots: the animal rescue league of iowa is a lucky winner today. iowa was named the recipient of this year's midwest disaster resiliency grant. it was given by the american society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. the grant will be put toward helping animals and pet owners during natural disasters. and for the animal rescue league of iowa, that means new equipment for horse rescues. t's very big for us, because there is not a lot of capablity of that kind of rescue here in iowa. and iowa has thousands upon thousands of horses all over the place. and the aspc recognizes that when a horse is in a crisis situation like that it requires an immediate response. and having a team trained, and equipped to do that sort of rescue is invaluable. " jack/ots:: organizations across iowa will split a grant of 60 thousand dollars.

unbeaten s-m-u. iowa is a big mover up 7 spots to number 9. and texas a&m who iowa state plays in a couple of weeks is number 10. speaking of iowa state they fall to number 19. and talk about a gauntlet over the next five games they face four top 10 teams. jon: that includes number one oklahoma tonight. this is a chance for iowa state to get momentum rolling after a win over kansas state saturday. this matchup last year at hilton was an instant classic-- iowa state came back from a 20 point defecit to win and it was maybe the loudest game we've heard at hilton. with more we go to jordan furbee who has been in ames all afternoon. jordan/livetvu1: jon tonight begins a brutal stretch for the cyclones. 4 of the next 5 games are against ap top 10 teams. now the schedule isn't the only thing that's brutal, so is the weather, with temps at or below zero here in ames. but that certainly didn't stop students from camping outside hilton to see their clones

they'll hope to 630... they'll hope to cheer on iowa state to a win over #1 for only the 2nd time ever... the only time isu has ever beaten #1, came on a cold day very much like this back on january 14, 1957 against wilt chamberlain and #1 kansas. another note, a win tonight would give the state of iowa 3 wins against number 1 teams. and 4 if you count iowa's win in the grapple on count iowa's win in the grapple on the gridiron versus ok state. jon: as for the iowa hawkeyes they're a perfect 5-0 in the big ten and it may not have been possible without the sharp shooting of peter jok-- the valley grad getting some recognition from his conference today. in last week's games against michigan state and michigan jok averaged over 19 points. and shot over 60 percent from beyond the arc. jok has hit his stride for the hawkeyes who have now won 7 straight games.
