6:16 pm
with jordan fuare iowa sports" jordan: hilton magic strikes again! after a 1-3 start in the big 12, fans thought the sky was falling in ames. but this isu team believed in itself and sent oklahoma home with a loss about 8 hours after it was named #1... "hilton coliseum was electric with the students back in school!
6:17 pm
2nd half, isu would build a 10 point lead. before the sooners answered back. dante buford's three from jack trice caps off an 8-0 run. "they hit us, they tied it. i think they took the lead, by 1 or maybe 2. and then they responded again." and who else to respond but georges niang. his three here caps off a 7-0 run as the clones go ahead by 8 with 6 to play! nats but that's when buddy hield showed why he's one of the best in america. the sooners go on an 11-0 run, 9 of which came from hield. "i mean, the numbers speak for themselves. buddy hield is, in my mind a first team all- american for sure." hield puts ou up by 2. but like coach prohm said, isu responded again... jameel mckay with the board and the putback. ties it up at 70. then it's monte morris coming up clutch with the 3. "the 3 in the corner was huge. it was a money shot, put us up 3 i think, 73-70. sooners would punch right back as isaiah cousins drops in the triple to knot it at 77.
6:18 pm
who missed the game winning shot at oklahoma earlier this year stepped up! "i didn't even think about that til you just said it. that's right. you know he's got that little pull up kind of step back shot that he's kind of perfected and i guess he had about 7 points in the last minute and a half didn't he?" ou would again cut the lead to 2, but then isu reaches into its old school playbook! "nobody's on the ball, instead of fighting the pressure, just a quick, bring a guy out of bounds, because while you can run the baseline you can make that pass. it ended up working kind of a double whammy for us." "it's just something we've worked out day in and day out with special situations and we noticed they didn't put a man on the ball and we tried to run that play and cousins reached over the line which you're not allowed to do and we got the technical foul." "i didn't know what happened, i was scarred to death that i screwed up the whole game for a second." a matt thomas free throw put the clones up 3 with the ball. two more free throws by abdel nader help seal the 82-77 win. ""after we hit rock bottom, we came together and realized

up, where monte has flaws, jameel has to pick him up and down through the line. and i think we've done that so far and finally put two halves together and i think that's a big reason by coach challenging us." "it was sweet. people like to count us out, but inside our locker room we don't really count ourselves out. we know how good we are, we just have to come out and show it every night and we don't blame people for playing the way we do, because we haven't showed that we can do it every night, but once we start to show that we can do it every night, we'll be alright." "do you think you're back in the big 12 race after this?" left!." jordan: big words from showtime. meanwhile the win also made isu history. it's the first win over a #1 team since 1957 when the cyclones upset wilt chamberlain and kansas. steve prohm also accomplished something that fred hoiberg, larry eustachy, tim floyd, even johnny orr never did, beat #1! "you're thankful and you're humble about it. put this team in the

and so you give credit to all the people that before you and i know gary thompson beat wilt all those years ago and that's the fun part of being part of a program where you've got people that care. fred's probably as excited as anybody right now and gary thompson probably is too. and that's what you want, you want to be at a program where you've got generations pulling for each other, so this is obviously a great moment for our school and hopefully we can continue to build on it." next up for isu, a road trip to face tcu who just gave kansas a game. that's set for saturday at 3 pm. the game can be seen on espnu. jordan/sx3s stephanie/sx3s jack/sx3s we'll be right back... you're watching local five news at six. jack/wxhang:
