>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> state troopers targeted corporal brian dixon is killed as he and another trooper are ambushed outside their barrack in the pocono mountains. tonight a multi state manhunt currently underway. the shooting happened in the remote town of blooming grove pike county about 140 miles north of philadelphia. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is following the latest developments from the cbs-3 sat center tonight. matt? >> reporter: natasha right now there is an all out search for the suspect in this case as there has been all day long including the use of road blocks and helicopters as authorities are telling the public to be on the look out for a suspect considered armed and dangerous. state police commissioner frank noon nine described the crime in

no uncertain terms. >> this attack was an ambush. our troopers were leaving the barracks and were shot without warning and really had no chance to defend themselves. >> reporter: corporal brian dixon and trooper alex douglas were struck just before 11:00 friday at the brooming grove police barracks. douglas is was taken to the hospital in stable condition. corporal dixon pronounced dead at the scene. >> it has touched us to the co core. that such an event could happen. >> reporter: search immediately began for the suspect in the case. officials say they believe the shooter has left the rural area where the shooting happened and the search parameters have been expanded a person of interest has been questioned in the case burt is not considered a suspe suspect. in the meantime, a word of caution for the public. >> we have a very dangerous, armed criminal, that has already killed one pennsylvania state trooper and wounded another, and that is not in custody. >> reporter: corporal dixon graduated from the police academy in 2007 and had recently

transferred to the blooming barracks from a posting in philadelphia. governor corbett spoke about him late saturday afternoon. >> corporal brian dixon leaves behind two young boys an wife and i can't imagine the heart ache that they are going throu through. >> reporter: they believe the shooter was looking to attack law enforcement although officials wouldn't say if the two troopers were specifically targeted. earlier today governor corbett also gave word that flags at both the state capitol and gov... government buildings in pike county should be lowered to half staff a $20,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in this case. we're live in the sat center. matt rivers "eyewitness news" at 10 on the cw philly. >> matt, thank you very much. of course keep it right here on "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage. you can get the very latest any time at >> heading to our weather now a damp and dreary day turned into a cool evening.

"eyewitness news" at the wrapped new dilworth plaza. but the worst weather of weekend it's parentsly all behind us now. meteorologist justin drabick joins us now with his first forecast. hey, justin. >> good evening, natasha. that's right. looks like this rain is out of here setting for nice finish to the weekend and i know certainly you're enjoying that. i give this smiley face -- i know -- i can't get it to go here. >> get the eye thon. that's natasha's forecast she's loving it. the front has moved offshore now we're clearing out those skies so now we have a stronger wind coming in out of the northwest. you'll notice the big change in the temperatures over the next 12 to 24 hours. look at it already. 62 degrees at the airport in philadelphia. 56 in allentown and reading. suburbs get down into the 40s you by the time you wake up sunday morning. jacket and hoodie weather for sure. 57 quakertown and doylestown this hour. there you go. let's talk about those morning low temperatures look at reading, allentown, trenton upper 40s mid 50s for the city.

lower 50s down across south jersey. certainly feeling like fall. we wrap up the komen three day walk tomorrow. beautiful conditions unlike today. back into the sunshine. 73 degrees. if you're heading to the shore or in the mountains also expect lots of sunshine coming up for your sunday. we'll talk about how long the weather lasts in the seven day forecast coming up in a few minute. natasha,. >> justin, thanks so much. developing at this hour, officials are working hard to confirm the authenticity of just released video that appears show the excution of yet another hostage by isis militants. cbs news correspondent danielle nottingham tells us more about the alleged victim in this case british aid worker david haines. >> reporter: the video releasereleased on social media saturday shows david haines a 44 year old aid worker from scotland on his knees with a masked man hovering over him with a knife. haines was kidnapped in northern syria last year as he delivered humanitarian aid. the new video looked very much like the previous videos showing the execution of two american

journalists. james foley and steven sotloff who were beheaded. in the video, it appears haines is following a script. he denounces british prime minister david cameron holding him responsible for his execution and following a trend of british prime ministers who can't find the courage to say no to the americans. the same masked man with a british accent appears in all three videos. and like the other two, he threatens to kill yet another hostage sometime in the future. cameron called the execution despicable and appalling. he tweeted and released a statement saying "the murder of david haines is an act of pure evil and his heart goes out to haines family who have shown extraordinary courage and fortitude. cameron added, we will do everything in our power to hunt down these murderers and ensure they face justice. however, long it takes. >> haines' family has asked for privacy. danielle nottingham for "eyewitness news" on the c cw

philly. >> the search is on for a hit-and-run driver involved in a deadly crash in tioga. philadelphia police say that a car hit a 60 year old man crossing the street at 25th and allegheny, and just kept going. this happened about midnight. the vick testimony was then hit by a second car that pulled ov over. police later found the striking vehicle abandoned on the 3100 block of bane berry street. and an off cameras fire claims the life of a promising student at albright college. 19 year old sophomore matt ryan was from south river, new jersey, and held a school record in swimming. other students reportedly jumped to safety. two required medical attention. the fire was contained to the basement and there were working smoke detectors we understand. it's unclear how it started. >> minnesota viking running back adrian peterson is back at home after being arrested and charged with abusing his young son. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette tells us the defense claims that peterson discipline

the four year old in the same way he was punished when he was a child. >> reporter: minnesota vikings star running back adrian peterson turned himself in early saturday morning. he was processed at the montgomery county jail near houston, then left after posting a $15,000 bond. peterson is charged with child abuse after allegedly using a switch or tree branch to spank his young child. >> a grand jury having indicted this case look at the injuries that were inflicted upon it's child and determined that that discipline was not reasonable didn't not reflect the community standards of what was reasonable discipline. report roar peterson's arrest caps a difficult week for the nfl. still reeling from criticism of its handling of the race rice domestic violence case. the league indefinitely suspended the baltimore ravens running back after video surfaced showing rice striking his then fiance' in an elevator knocking her out. >> this is a nightmare for the nfl right now. it's probably the darkest and most embarrassing week in the

history of the league. >> reporter: saturday afternoon rice and his wife made their first public appearance since his suspension from the nfl. the family attend add high school football game at rice's alma mater in new hoe shell, new york. >> rice watched the first half the game from the side lines and then left. the crowd did not have much of a reaction to his visit but school officials say he he's always welcome here. rice's nfl jersey has been removed from the school gym's wall. peterson has been benched by the vikings for sunday's game against the patriots. he'll make his first court appearance sometime in the next few weeks. wendy gillette for "eyewitness news" on the c phillyly. >> queen lane apartments in germantown are now just a memo memory. (implosion). >> the nearly 60 year old high rise had become an eye sore and a haven for illegal activity in recent years. the redevelopment has been nearly four years in the making and many neighbors donned masks

and stayed to watch today's implosion. in just a few short minutes this is all that remained, a mound of rubble. reaction has been mixed. >> this was the place that i called home for 25 years. yeah, my mother was the first one to move in there, one of them. so to see it come down, that's our history. >> been here a long time and we have history here. um, a lot of the residents around here they was crying when it blew up. but i know they happy that it's going to be bigger and better things to come. >> this video here shows exactly why neighbors within a one block radius had to evacuate for most of the day. those in the blue dust zone were told to close all the windows and doors of their homes. 55 low income housing units will be built at this site. now potters field will be recognized with a historic marker. the units are all set to open neck fall. >> friends are rallying now to help a young man who suffers

from paralysis raise money for his rehabilitation. a fundraiser held for cook crandall at geno's steaks in south philly today. in 2012 he injured his spinal cord in a crash in upstate new york. today owner geno vento presented him with a check for more than $53,000 to pay for this rehab at a facility in michigan. >> geno is one of the best people i ever met in my whole life. he's an mazing person arc great friend and i wouldn't be able to get out of this chair without him. >> he can go and get the therapy that he needs for year. i don't even know if there's words for how grateful i am. >> geno vento first met crandall at magee rehab where he was being treated for a knee injury at the time. >> it may not be very easy now to get your hands on that new iphone six. that's coming up. plus britain's prince harry an event that's near and dear to his heart. see how he's honoring wounded warriors from all around the world.

>> back now on "eyewitness news" homeowner in scottsdale, arizona gets the shock of his life when a coyote darts inside his home and after he called 911, he found the coyote asleep inside his fireplace. animal control officers were called in to remove the animal and release it into the wild. it turns out it was a baby coyote who must have been very tired. >> and more than 400 wounded service members from all around the world are in london competing in the invictus games and prince harry couldn't be more pleased. the prince was inspired by the warrior games held here in the us. men and women from 13 countries are competing in this year's games. during his two tours in afghanistan prince harry saw friends wounded on the front line, and learned that sports play is very important role in rehabilitation. the closing ceremony is tomorr

tomorrow. anybody hoping to get the new iphone six plus next week is probably out of luck right about now. pre orders for the new smart phone started yesterday afternoon, and within hours, it was already sold out. apple has about a three to four week wait for the iphone six plus but the smaller iphone six is set to ship win 10 days. the new line of i phones is expected in stores septembe september 19th. >> it's time for fans at the plastic ride at the epcot in florida to let it go. attraction based on the animated movie frozen is coming to the walt disneyworld theme park. it will replace this ride here which is norwegian boat ride. disney offered few details about what the frozen attraction will include but says it will recreate the fictional land of aaron dale. >> a two-day cycling festival underway in doylestown. "eyewitness news" at the third annual bucks county classic

today's opening race featured a 100-mile grueling course from doylestown to new hope. there will be several other races tomorrow and cbs-3 is a very proud sponsor of this eve event. >> one more day to go for all those walkers competing there actually just walking the three day. "eyewitness news" at the pennsylvania convention center as the walkers finished day two of their three-day, 60-mile journey. they'll camp here tonight and head out again in the morning. meteorologist justin drabick stopped by to meet some of the walkers and cheer them on. it rained on them, sorry, justin, but did he promise that tomorrow will be little more perfect, right for the wrap up? >> yeah, that's right. you know i wasn't getting any smiley faces were i was out there today. they weren't too happy with me but they'll enjoy tomorrow's weather. back in the sunshine with comfortable temperatures nice finish to the day here. taking a life look at ben franklin bridge. we finished up the game at campbell's field and skies are clearing out nicely. temperatures actually dropping

pretty rapidly into the 50s already in some spots check it out 56 in allentown and in reading. 52 mount pocono still hanging on to some 60s for philadelphia and parts of south jersey. maybe some lingering clouds over the shore for the next few hou hours, but skies even down there will begin to clear out. look what's off to the north and west even cooler air low and mid 50s. pittsburgh and state college that's what we can expect to move into our area over the next 12 to 24 hours. compliments of a northwesterly wind behind the cold front passed offshore that brought that rain today across the delaware valley. so look at that. high pressure build noose the great lakes that's carving out clear skies over the delaware valley the mid atlantic and northeast. that sets up for a nice finish to the weekend into the start of next week. so this storm is long gone. temperatures are going to be cool tomorrow. only in the low 70s despite mostly sunny skies. little bit milder on monday. high pressure still blocks any storms from developing so we'll keep the dry weather intact for the start of the work week. now, we can see big changes in

the jet stream coming in early next week it starts to sag farther south so that cooler air from canada is able to push farther south keep our temperatures below average. jet drops farther south late in the week next week. so temperatures well below average. we shall still be right around 79, 80 degrees, not even close to that coming up next week. i'll show you that in the seven day forecast. central atlantic we're watching tropical storm edward trying to intensify it is expected to become a category one hurricane possibly early as tomorrow. it will stay out over the open waters of the atlantic and past well east of the we are mood today. back home again clearing skies overnight. nice start to your sunday lots of sunshine in the morning that will be the trend through the afternoon. pleasant conditions continue into monday. as we head towards early tuesday morning, we'll see a weak cold front move through could bring a few showers in here very early before dawn on tuesday then by mid late morning we'll see the sunshine return. temperatures tomorrow. look at this. 60s to the low 70s at best. inland spots will be the warme
