as we roll through the day 28 right now on your storm tracker 6 app 26 degrees by 8 o'clock and then by noon, 32. by three 34 dropping down in a high at 3 o'clock. cold brisk and breezy all day long. we'll have your new year's eve midnight call and your mummers parade call for tomorrow coming up in that accuweather 7-day, matt. >> you know in their hundred plus years they had to postpone the parade about 22 times i believe it was. good they won't have to do that tomorrow, david. nice clear skies and nice clear traffic this morning here along 95 in the ongoing work zone. 2014 saw plenty of changes here along 95 at cottman avenue but the good news is this morning no negative changes. we're moving fine as you head southbound towards center city. say same between allegheny and girard. no issues on the schuylkill or roosevelt boulevard. cars in greenwich gloucester county involving a vehicle that ran off the southbound side of the new jersey turnpike approaching exit two for 322. good news is all the activity is off to the side. getting by without much of a
delay. you're getting by but there's a work zone on the a.c. expressway eastbound approaching the farley service plaza taking out two lanes scheduled until 5:00 p.m. but i wouldn't be surprised if they clear out early and construction crews cleared from 42 northbound by 295. everything is opened here. another spot where 2014 saw a lost changes. this morning traffic is moving well matt. >> thank you matt. our latest development in the search for the airasia jetliner. more bodies have been found plus a number of media outlets are reporting that indonesian sonar picked up the plane's location. abc news says its reporting conflicts that. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in our satellite center to sort out the overnight developments. >> reporter: matt the associated press is among those reporting that sonar equipment has detected wreckage at the bottom of the sea but it's unclear what kind of condition that wreckage is in. meanwhile search and rescue teams have been contending with inclement weather strong winds and current, high surf
have been hindering search efforts and preventing diverse from getting in water. the bodies of two of the victims arrived at a airport where family and friends had been gathering. carried off the plain two wooden bodies containing the bodies of an adult woman and a teenaged boy. so much grief, so many questions. some painted after hearing confirmation that debris found in the java sea did belong to that missing airasia flight. overnight we learned seven victims have been recovered. four of the bodies were male and three female. one was a flight attendant identified by her red uniform. despite official word from search and rescue teams loved ones still held out hope. 162 souls were on board airasia flight 8501 when it
disappeared halfway through a two-hour flight from indonesia to singapore. the international search has involved dozens of planes, ships and helicopters. u.s. navy ships are on location. the chief of indonesia's search and rescue says his team has retrieved pieces of the plane along with a blue suitcase and an oxygen tank. experts say the metal wreckage with burn marks could suggest an explosion or fire. >> so once you have the debris you look at it all and fire stands out explosion stands out. was it ripped apart or was something else going on here? >> reporter: and at this time the search for the plane's black boxes continues. they could be critical in determining what led up to that crash. we're live in the satellite center, katherine scott channel6 "action news." tam. >> katherine thank you. new this morning it was a battle for firefighters as two house fires in philadelphia overnight. the first one happened just before 1:00 a.m. on the 1600 block of margaret street in frankford. firefighters found a second floor bedroom in flames when they got to the scene.
investigators removed a burned mattress there. everyone inside that home did get out safely. >> police want to talk to man who they believe stole christmas tips meant for hard working garbage collectors in the suburbs. the cash was left in holiday cards and taped to trash cans in neighborhoods in delaware and chester counties. residents had called police saying they believe some tips had been swiped. then a homeowner in wayne spotted the thief in action and was able to grab a partial license tag number to call it in. >> our patrol officers were able to deduce that a tag or a partial tag and then look into police systems and found a vehicle with a matching description, make model and color. >> authorities have identified their suspect as 50-year-old norman demko of malvern. they issued a summons to charge him with theft. "action news" was unable to reach demko for comment. >> as we get trod say goodbye to 2014, new york city is getting ready for that big
bash in times square. they tested the ball yesterday to make sure that it will drop from its lofty perch as it descends tonight on the final countdown to the new year, the crystal ball will light up in colorful patterns. and of course you can watch all of that live only right here on 6abc. tune into the annual tradition dick clark's new year's rocking eve with ryan seacrest. a long list of performers include taylor swift iggy azalea and elton john. festivities kick off at 8 o'clock tonight right here on 6abc. >> workers in new jersey are among the americans who will be getting a raise beginning tomorrow. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square with our final market watch report of 20 fourteen how about that, maribel. >> reporter: that's a big one, matt. we like to talk about money. more than 3 million workers are getting a new year's raise. on january 1st, 21 states and washington, d.c. will increase their minimum wage and 11 of those boosts are thanks to new legislation. in 2015, 29 states will have a
minimum wage above the federal rate of $7.25. and there soon may be one more place to use your apple pay at the gas pump. apple working with chevron to make it available at the company's fillup stations next year. the gas station is apple's next stop on that road to make apple pay a complete replacement for traditional payment. let's talk stocks. stocks tumbled tuesday as the dow fell backplate teen thousand. futures are higher for the last day of this trading year. finally even white castle fans want a veggie option. the fast food chain known for its beef sliders introduced a veggie burger. it sells for 99 cents, 20 cents more than the beef option. matt and tam the question is, wonder how harold and kumar would feel about that veggie option. >> i don't know. >> thank you maribel. >> funny. >> she ends 2014 on a great note. >> we'll see her next year which is not long. storm tracker 6 live double scan, no precipitation
first time in three mornings we haven't been talking about something down the shore but it is clear as a bell down there. as we look outside we're looking at stars overhead above the platt bridge and all the other bridges and by ways across the region and lots of sun up over the horizon in a little while. 28 degrees right now in philadelphia, though. we are starting out definitely on the cold side. 21 degrees in allentown. 24 in reading. we're at -- up out of the teens in millville and 30 in sea isle city. satellite showing us that, yeah, there is a little bit of clouds -- cloud cover offer to the west of us but it's breaking apart. as it pushes towards i-95 we think it's going to evaporate. we're expecting mainly sunny condition today. up in allentown we'll go mostly sunny but it's also cold. a high of just 32, brisk and wind chills making it feel like it's in the teens and 20's as we roll through the day. down the shore a little bit better. highs closer to 40. we'll go 38 at the shore mostly sunny, brisk and cold there as well, though, definitely coat and gloves weather, hats too and 35 degrees in philadelphia.

the roosevelt boulevard northbound at bustleton avenue. watch outer for it in the inner drive. also a new crash in upper merion in valley forge national park along 23. valley forge park road near inner line drive. no delays on 42 near king of prussia. grab in east greenwich township, a vehicle ran off the road. but all the activity is off the road as well. the lanes there are opened. no fishes so far this morning in -- no issues so far this morning in delaware. this is our good buddy ben the ben franklin bridge. all bridges in good shape this morning. 2014 saw a lot of construction on the ben franklin bridge. thankfully most of that has wrapped up. all the lanes are opened this morning. matt. >> thank you matt. new story here. state police in schuylkill county pa are on the lookout for a cow killer. five cows have been shot at heplers homestead farm on monday morning.
police believe all of the animals were shot in the head at close range. four of them all pregnant with calves did not survive. a fifth cow is expected to recover. now, the farm owner estimates the financial loss at more than $8,000. the family has run the dairy farm for 235 years. investigators say a faulty appliance caused an explosion at a lehigh valley apartment complex. it happened yesterday in whitehall township. investigators say a gas employee was working on the appliances, went to ignite the pilot light and it exploded. the blast was so powerful it lifted the roof off the building. both awoke and a resident are being treater for burns. >> it is 6:17. health experts believe they have pin pointed the source that kicked off that deadly ebola outbreak. >> western canada trying to sort out what police are calling the worst mass murder to ever take place in the city of edmonton. david. >> it's a cold one for new year's eve in philadelphia. a high of just 35 degrees today. well below the average and cold tonight.

investigators found the bodies at three separate crime scenes. they say a man with a lengthy criminal record killed six adults and two young children and then took his own life. detectives say this was all the result of domestic violence. >> it took three years but a suspected rapist is back in philadelphia to face justice. 39-year-old robert palin is accused of beating and raping three women in pennypack park back in 2010 and 2011. police described these attacks as vicious. >> he immediately just took advantage knocked this woman unconscious, removed their clothing while they were -- and continued beating them to the point where they had injuries, fractures and multiple facial injuries. >> investigators had dna from the 2011 attack. they got a hit from a national database nine mog when palin was arrested in wisconsin. he pleaded guilty there to raping and trying to kill a woman he met online. he's now being held on
$10 million bail in philadelphia. >> the california woman and her boyfriend received a strange christmas surprise this year. sandra ortiz was excited to give her boyfriend a play station four for christmas. she bought it at target and then came gift opening time. inside the box no game system, two bibles. ortiz said her boyfriend already owned a bible and she was afraid target wouldn't believe her story but the store did give her a real ps4. it is unclear why the bibles were in the box. >> interesting. >> it's 6:27 and a woman says she was secretly recorded by a friend. >> police in south jersey say they have their man and are trying to figure out if there are multiple victims. >> ♪♪

of that crash. also have a crash in gloucester county on the southbound side of the new jersey turnpike approaching exit two for 322 involving a vehicle that ran off the roadway but everything is off to the side so the lanes are opened there as you head south towards salem county and the delaware memorial bridge. here in port richmond this is 95 by allegheny avenue. southbound come the headlights. no normal morning delay here on 95. same is true over on the schuylkill. we have that broken down vehicle on 95 southbound by the vine and we're also watching one on the roosevelt boulevard northbound at bustleton avenue in the inner drive by gordon chevrolet. watch out for one more crash in valley forge national park along route 23 year inner line drive but no delays so far this morning on 422. matt and tam. >> thank you matt. we begin with new developments in the operation to recover airasia flight 8501. several media outlets are reporting that sonar has picked up the plane upside down beneath the surface of the java sea. >> however abc news is telling us that they're hearing conflicting reports on that and that they've not been
able to confirm all the information. >> "action news" reporter katherine scott is following all these details live from the satellite center. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, matt and tam. there have been several reports that sonar equipment has detected wreckage on the sea floor but it's unclear what kind of condition that wreckage is in, if it's been broken up or if it's in one piece. meanwhile we do know seven bodies have been recovered. the bodies of two airasia passengers have now arrived at a military air strip in surabaya's airport where family and friends have been gathering. carried off the plane, two wooden coffins containing the bodies of an adult woman and a teenaged boy. overnight we learned that seven victims of the airasia crash have been recovered from the java sea. four of the bodies were male and three female. one was a flight attendant identified by her red uniform. >> it's a horrible, horrible experience. we'll try and do our best. >> reporter: 162 souls were on board airasia flight 8501

he's in stable condition. yet another story developing. an armed bandit pulled off a robbery at a 7-eleven in philadelphia overnight. it happened at the convenience store in the 6000 block of rising sun avenue in the lawndale section of the city. police say the man demanded cash from the clerk at 1:30 a.m., made off with the money and some cigarettes. witnesses say the bandit took off towards fan shaw street. no one was hurt. >> we're learning more about the suspect shot and killed by police in delaware county yesterday. authorities say he had been arrested in the past for making terroristic threats. >> to try to arrest me, okay. now, consequently there will be serious and irreversible catastrophic consequences. >> the 52-year-old joseph anthony pacini posted several video rants like this one on youtube threatening law enforcement. multiple agencies went to his clifton heights home yesterday afternoon but he got in his car and took off. officers then followed him into that drexel hill and
that's where police say things really escalated. >> they attempted to stop him. he threw the car in reverse. he ran into the chief of police car from clifton and tried to run over several other officers who were around the car. >> police say they opened fire fearing for their own lives. investigators also say pacini had a history of mental illness. >> 6:36 on the clock. philadelphia police are asking for your help to find the person who attacked a pregnant woman. surveillance video shows the 41-year-old victim walking along the 100 block of manton street in south philadelphia back on december 22nd. seconds later here's the guy running up behind her without warning punches the woman on the side of the head knocking her to the ground and grabs her purse and a grab of food. the woman was treated or an eye injury. south jersey police say they have arrested a plan who secretly record add woman in her own bathroom plus another woman and they're trying to figure out if there are other victims. the woman says 25-year-old
carl camp jr. of magnolia had visited her home in gloucester township and she believes he set up a cell phone in her bathroom. police discovered a second woman had also been secretly recorded. camp is charged with invasion of privacy. >> ♪♪ >> and happening today, a man charged in a deadly accident that killed three bucks county teenagers is scheduled to learn his fate today. 53-year-old michael ware covered his face as he walked inside court yesterday. he requested a preliminary hearing to determine if the case against him is strong enough to go to trial. a ruling is expected today. ware is charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly letting his 15-year-old daughter drive his suv in the poconos over labor day weekend. also happening today the philadelphia school district is working over the holidays to help some parents get their kids into new schools before classes resume on monday. the abrupt closure of the walter palmer charter school leaves 600 students in k through eight without anywhere to go.

>> matt what you got in traffic. >> we could use a little more plank space. we don't have much of that right now here on 42 matt and tam. we're crowded together packed in because of a crash on the northbound side by 295. you can see the backlog has really formed now from 41 through this point at creek road up to that accident scene where the right side of the roadway is blocked. so, it's kind of looking like a normal morning or even a little slower than normal but we haven't been used to this delay this week because volume so far this week has been light. not the case this morning on 42 because of that crash. other accident in south jersey is in east greenwich gloucester county new jersey turnpike southbound side approaching exit two for route 322 involving a vehicle that ran off the roadway. all the activity associated with the accident is off to the side so the lanes are opened and the speeds don't look too bad. speeds also don't look too bad on 95 this morning as you come southbound but do watch out for that disabled vehicle southbound at the vine street expressway. pretty much all off to the side. also have a broken down vehicle on the roosevelt
boulevard northbound side at bustleton avenue in the inner drive. just getting word of a store fire in north philadelphia along york street between sixth and seven and. definitely a good spot to avoid. speeds look good over on the schuylkill expressway and hey it's going to be good news on the schuylkill to end this 2014. yesterday they reopened the ramp from spring garden street to the westbound side. go ahead and use that ramp and please enjoy but watch out for a crash in valley forge national park along 23 near inner line drive. matt. >> thank you matt. a mother was killed in a terrible accident inside an idaho wal-mart yesterday. investigators say her toddler accidentally shot her. it happened as the 29-year-old woman shopped with several of her children. her two-year-old son was sitting in a shopping cart with her purse when he grabbed the handgun inside it and somehow pulled the trigger. wal-mart was evacuated as a precaution. no one else was hurt. >> new here on "action news," the pastor of a florida church shot and critically wounded an employee during a shootout. police say living water
fellowship pastor terry howell was in the middle of firing a maintenance worker when the work worker a began to shoot at him. he fired several shots but they all missed how well. how well got his own gun and shot at the man. he's currently being treater at the hospital. no one else was injured. police say howell was indeed acting in self-defense. >> a texas man says a burglar broke into his home tried to steal his stuff and passed out in his guest room. homeownerrer kevin connolly was preparing to head to the airport when he noticed one of his packed bags was missing. he grabbed his money and searched every room. he found his bag and with it christopher provazek sound asleep. he woke up when officers dragged him out of bed. he now faces charges including burglary. >> it is 6:47 and coming up this morning police are on alert on this new year's eve as many groups across the country plan protests against police brutality. david. >> cold this morning across the region, 28 in philadelphia, 21 in allentown
