karen rogers. good morning. >> the national weather service as is usually the case has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 10 o'clock tonight. it doesn't kick in until late this morning and across most of these counties highlighted in purple i think you have to wait until the afternoon hours before you see appreciable snow moving n allentown and points north and east are not affected by this. you're only looking at a coating to an inch up there. the rest of us could see 1 to 3 inches with higher amounts probably down in south jersey and delaware so that is the story for this afternoon and tonight. ahead of that we might actually see some early sunshine in some spots before the clouds get thicker and then south of pittsburgh you see some of that precipitation beginning to fill in and that is what we are waiting for later today. 29 degrees right now in philadelphia, 21 degrees in allentown. little bit of a breeze kicking around so definitely bundle up this morning. as you're headed to the bus stop it looks like we'll be just below the freezing mark for seven and eight can clock
hours, partly cloudy, not much wind out there just a little bit of a breeze and as we go through the day, well, it looks like we have a shot at getting up above freezing for a little while today but when that snow starts, i think the numbers are going to fall pretty quickly and by 6 o'clock we'll be back down to 30 and i would be careful driving around this afternoon and this evening in areas that do see the snow because karen, it's going to be cold enough for that to stick to nontreated surfaces. when i step inside we'll have the whole details with future tracker 6 showing the arrival. >> absolutely dave could be a tricky evening commuter. as for the morning commute we're dry. we're watching for areas of plaque isojust be careful for any slick spots. we're not seeing any big problem with in, though. looking live on the schuylkill near south street that's westbound traffic headed towards the vine moving good at this point. on the big picture speeds reflecting that mostly traveling in the visits on the schuylkill. we had a problem in tacony, accident investigation had shut down milner street. it is reopened in this area in tacony near cottman but i would use a little caution. crews are still on the scene so stick to state road as your
alternate. we have this accident in north philadelphia that katherine scott has been talking about and still shutting down lehigh avenue it's closed near 25th street. if you're in this area stick to huntington or somerset streets tam. >> thank you karen. this is breaking news. we were talking about this this morning. two philadelphia police officers are in the hospital after their cruiser was involved in that crash overnight. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live near the scene there in north philadelphia. good morning katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and the circumstances surrounding this is crash remain under investigation. everyone was taken to the hospital, everybody is in stable condition. you can see this was a messy crash here on lehigh avenue in north philadelphia this morning. there's broken glass in the street. you can see the debris. air bags deployed in the vehicles. the crash happened around 3:00 a.m. the officers had just scooped up a 24-year-old man who had been shot three times on north hollywood. they were taking him to the hospital. they had their lights and sirens on. they were driving east on
lehigh when the police vehicle collide we had a lexus is the intersection of 25th. after that initial crash the lexus ended up on the sidewalk and the police vehicle and the camaro that was coming from the other direction on lehigh collide. the driver of the police vehicle has a head laceration and possible concussion. other officer has minor injuries and the shooting victim who was in the back seat is stable just being treated for his gun shot wounds. the other two drivers were taken to the hospital. they complained of pain but are otherwise doing okay. police say emergency driving is a dangerous part of their job. >> rescue is -- if rescue is not on location and we don't see them coming anywhere near from several blocks away, we scoop them right up and we rush the victims especially when they're shot multiple times to the nearest hospital. in this case it was temple hospital. and whenever we're rushing someone to the hospital, we activate our lights, we activate our sirens. we try drive there as quickly and safely as possible but in
this situation for some reason an accident investigation officers will determine how and why this accident occurred. >> reporter: and back here live on lehigh where this stretch is closed for this accident investigation the other two drivers driver of that camaro and the lexus were driving without a license so they will be ticket for driving without a license. if there are any additional charges depends on the outcome of this investigation. we're live in north philadelphia, katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> okay, katherine thank you for that. it is 6:05. and also breaking this morning one person was killed in a one-vehicle crash overnight. it happened along the 7300 block of milner street in philadelphia's tacony section just before 2:00 a.m. this morning. police say the driver tried to pass another car lost control and smashed into concrete steps. the driver and a rear seat passenger were injured and that front seat passenger died. the driver's now being tested for dui. >> ♪♪ >> this story is brand new. two former pro wrestlers are suing the world wrestling
federation in federal court in philadelphia. evan singleton and veet dough lograsso say the wwe ignored concussions that they claim left them with serious brain injuries. singleton performed as adam mercer from 2012 to 13. lograsso entered the ring as skull von krush and big veto t the wwe says there's no merit to their claims that it sold violence and caused their injuries. >> president obama came to congress to give a state of the union address and he was bold both in his demeanor and in his plans. but the republicans who control congress don't sound so many erin o'hearn is live at the big board with the big moments and that republican response. good morning. >> good morning. well, president obama went into the state of the union with a boost in popularity. reviews have been mixed many critics saying it was more of a political agenda as opposed to a governing agenda. here's some of the points. he wants to raise tax on the wealthy by raising the capital gains tax to 28 percent on income over $500,000.

and by erasing an inheritance loophole which allows beneficiaries to escape certain capital gains taxes. these taxes would pay for tax breaks to the middle class specifically a fife hundred dollars tax credit for families with two working spouses and an expansion of the child care tax credit higher taxes on the wealthy could also pay for the $60 billion to make community colleges free. with republicans in firm control of both houses in congress
it is almost certain these higher taxes won't be approved. of course obama knows that and could be trying to set an agenda for the next democrat who runs for president. the republicans responded accordingly. >> when we accept an economy where only a few of us do spectacularly well or will we commit ourselves to an economy that generates rising incomes and chances for everyone who makes the effort. (applause). >> americans have been hurting but when we demanded solutions

millville, 24 in trenton and 31 degrees in sea isle city. there is a chance that these numbers bounce up a little bit during the early afternoon but then the snow comes in and they go back down. so, future tracker 6 at noon still wants to keep the pluck of the -- bulk of the snow to the west of the region. advisories kick in later this morning just in case this jumps to the east a little bit faster. i think most of you can can probably not worry about this until the afternoon. by 3 o'clock future tracker has this to the west and maybe a few prongs coming in closer to the city. i think this could come in a bit quicker any time after midday to midafternoon you have to be prepared for this particularly in the western suburbs but even into philadelphia. we get into the rush hour and the models have been pretty consistent putting most of the early evening snow, while it may pass through the region sort of setting up over south jersey and delaware with lighter snow in and around philadelphia and then we go past the rush hour and there's a little bit more that fills in up until 10:30 and 11:00 when adam joseph will be on the air on channel 17, yes
adam is back as of last night and cecily tynan on 6abc at 11:00 but this is about the end of it and then we get up to about midnight and it's basically gone with maybe just a few lingering fluttering flakes. what are we expecting? well, precipitation type, this is mostly going to be snow across a good portion of the region but the farther south you go, you have a chance of some brief rain and sleet before a changeover to snow a little later in the afternoon. most of our models are still in line with that general 1 to 3-inch forecast that we're going with. the north american model is kind of overshooting it i think and you can see how it's an outliar but the rest of these in philadelphia are showing 1.5 1.7 maybe a little over 2-inches. most likely we're going for one to two in the immediate region. we think in south jersey two to three is more likely and just areas away from the shore a little bit could also fall under that. i could see a couple areas around vineland or millville going up closer to 4-inches but in most of southeastern pennsylvania just one to two. in allentown only a coating or an inch and you're not in the
winter weather advisory because you're speculating so little snow. 32 is the lie -- high there. a high of 36 in philadelphia but that number will start dropping when the snow arrives and we'll get below freezing pretty quickly after that. the snow arriving during the afternoon hanging with us during the rush hour at least in parts of the region and continuing off and on until about 11 o'clock tonight. clouds to sun then on thursday a milder high of 42. 38 from time to time on saturday a southern system now looks like it's close enough to bring us precipitation and it could actually be a wintry mix. some of us getting rain, some of us getting wet snow. we'll keep our eyes on that. that would be saturday afternoon saturday night. is that knee on sunday and another chance of snow on monday night into tuesday morning. >> hopefully. >> we're ready. >> it's passing. >> doesn't look like a major thing but it's a ways away. we have to keep watching. >> all new at 6:00 a.m. police are urging people in berks county to check those credit card statements after they discover a dunkin' donuts

>> ♪♪ >> welcome back. taking a live look here on sky 6 out over penn's landing over to the ben franklin bridge. things looking clear and dry right now at 6:16 but that will change as the day goes on and we get snow coming our way. >> getting busy out there karen rogers. >> it is and i talked to police in gloucester county new jersey. we've got an accident here and the trouble is the accident brought down poles and wires in this area. it's in monroe township in gloucester county. want to watch for it on tuckahoe road near franklinville williamstown road. the road isn't closed at this point but we have crews coming to the scene. this happened a few minutes ago. give caution here in gloucester county. let's look overall the new jersey overview. if you're coming up 55 people are moving about 65 miles an hour as you head towards 42. little on the quick side. 55 miles an hour on 42 so your main roads are in pretty good shape and we saw speed restrictions yesterday on the new jersey turnpike. not the case today. you're moving along at 65 miles an hour so no problems there. we are watching for some areas of black ice and you need to be careful about that. we have someone on the waze
app, someone from our 6abc team, oreo report ago and accident on 422 eastbound and i've got a shot we can kind of show you, this is not a great shot, i know a little on the blurry side but you can see police are on the scene. you can see the flashing lights. there's one vehicle here another vehicle off to the side. this is 422 eastbound near 29 and you can see how traffic is slowing around that curve with an accident. you've got police off to the shoulder and you've got another car involved off to the other side so kind of getting an issue here in both directions 422 eastbound near 29. watch for that accident just in. let's look at the temperatures around the region. it's 22 right now in martin's creek and quakertown, 24 in pottstown, 26 in chester and center city, so temperatures are below freezing. 25 in hammonton. 30 in dover, delaware but we are dry right now and the snow comes later on this afternoon and evening so the evening commute could be a little sloppy, tam. >> thank you karen. the washington post is reporting new details on the investigation into shots fired
near vice president joe biden's home in delaware over the weekend. officials tell the post that surveillance cameras on the property did not pick up images of the person who fired those shots. the cameras were not aimed at the main road. neighbors and agents say they heard four to six shots and then a car speeding off. the vice president was nearby but not after home. >> ♪♪ >> brand new here, a young woman from berks county is accused of stealing credit card numbers from three dunkin' donuts can customers. police say 18-year-old christine kline had swiped cards for customers at the drive through of a dunkin' donuts in wyomissing where she worked then they say she would reach for the receipt and do a second swipe through a card reader. police say kline ran up more than $800 on the debit card of just one of her victims. five employees at disneyland have been diagnosed with the measles. this brings a total number of cases centered around the california theme park to 53. a measles outbreak has been traced to people who visited disneyland between september 15th and 20. cases linked to be to this

we're dressing the kids warmly. we've got temperatures below the freezing mark this morning with a light breeze and this afternoon the numbers will be back around freezing or maybe a little bit below as that snow moves in. if you're headed to the bus stop or the el station around 28 29 degrees across much of the region right now. 31 degrees by 9 o'clock and then 34 by noon. we might get up as high as 36 degrees ahead of the snow around one or 2 o'clock but once the snow starts to come in maybe around 3 o'clockish you're going to see those temperatures drop. the winds won't be all that bad but we are going to see periods of light snow through the afternoon and evening and the evening commute tam could be slicey and dicey okay a-little slippery. >> we'll be careful. thank you david. in health check we're talking coffee. sometimes they tell you to have more sometimes they say stop drinking it. today i'm telling you it's a good thing. the journal of national cancer institute suggests coffee may curb your risk of malignant mel nome m researchers found people who drink the most had a 20 percent lower chance of

"action news" reporter erin o'hearn is at the big board with new developments. good morning. >> good morning. it's to too earl to call this the sports world's latest scandal but espn has found 11 of the 12 new england patriots game balls were inflated significantly less than the nfl requires. according to sources the investigation found the footballs were under inflaterd by 2 pounds per square inch of air less than was required by nfl regulations during the pats' 45-seven victory the colts. all game balls are required to be inspector and approved by the referees two hours 15 minutes before kickoff but then are returned to the ball attendant. deflating a football can can change the way it's gripped by a player or the way it travels through the area. this is just the start of the investigation of course and there is a chance that weather could have been a factor but

we've got an accident eastbound on 422 that's been causing problems and it's right near 29 so that accident scene is now we can see off to the shoulders. last time i show you this shot we only had one lane getting by. eastbound traffic jammed approaching 29 on 422. we have an accident. we had police on either side right now. the right shoulder and the left shoulder. but now both lanes are getting by right now on 422 eastbound but you've got a jam-up there. on the big pick can cherry we're seeing slower speeds there i showed you on i-95 and the schuylkill about 30 miles an hour. not bad just yet westbound from past the boulevard to belmont. we have this accident katherine scott has been talking about in north philadelphia. watch foreclosures of lehigh avenue between 25th and 24th. if you're in this area stick to huntington or somerset streets as your alternate tam. >> okay, thank you karen. this is breaking overnight. newly released video is shedding new light on exactly what led up to a deadly police-involved shooting in south jersey. our erin o'hearn is live at the big board and she's got more on this dramatic dash cam
video. good morning, erin. >> good morning, tam. this is the video released by bridgeton police department on tuesday. nj.com posted it overnight. it shows two police officers pulling over two men in a car back on december 30th. now the traffic stop escalated quickly leading up to the use of deadly force. we want to warn you the images and language you are about to hear and see are disturbing. >> keep your hands right there. jerome, you're reaching for something you're going to be dead. he's reaching, he's reaching. show him your hands. no you not no you not. don't move. >> don't you (bleep) move. >> that was the beginning of that -- that was the end that of traffic to. as you just heard officers ordered jermaine reid not to move before reid appears too push his way out of the passenger side door. now, activists say that the video appears to show reid with his hands in front of him
as he stands to get out of the car and then is shot and killed by the officers. the incident obviously escalated in a matter of just two minutes as police describe finding a gun. now activists are also planning a pre press conference today at the cumberland county prosecutors' office in bridgeton. they want a special prosecutor app pointered to oversee this case. now it is important to point thought that we can't hear the actual exchange between the police officers and the two men inside the car but again in light of the death of eric garner and michael brown this video is stirring up a lot of anger and more calls for a crackdown on police protocols. matt. >> all right erin thanks. let's go to some breaking news here. two philadelphia police officers are recovering from an overnight crash. it happened as they were transporting a shooting victim to the hospital. "action news" reporter katherine scott live at the crash scene in north philadelphia. katherine. >> reporter: matt, everyone involved in this accident is in stable condition at the
hospital. the other two drivers in the three-car crash did not have driver's licenses according to police and you can see it's still a mess here on lehigh avenue. there's debris and broken glass in the street. the three vehicles are still here. accident investigators are on the scene and air bags have been deployed in the vehicles. the crash happened around 3:00 a.m. here in north philadelphia. the officers had just picked up a 24-year-old man who had been shot three times on the 2400 block of north hollywood. the officers had their lights and sirens on. they were driving east on lehigh when the cruiser collided with a lexus that was traveling north on 25th. that was at the intersection. after that initial crash the lexus landed on the sidewalk and the police vehicle collided with a camaro that was traveling west o and lehigh. the driver of the police vehicle has ahead laceration and possible concussion. the other officer has minor injuries and the shooting victim is stable. he was being treated for the gun shot wounds but didn't appear to have any additional injuries from the crash.
the other two drivers were in the hospital with aches and pains. >> both of the civilian vehicles are operated by nonlicensed drivers so that's something we're going to look into, why these individuals driving at 3 o'clock in the morning without a driver's license. >> reporter: and back here live where there's still debris all over the road those other two drivers will be ticketed for driving without a license but if there are any additional charges depends on the outcome of this investigation. again, accident investigators are here on the scene they're taking measurements, they're processing the evidence and we'll let you know any updates if we get them. live in north philadelphia, katherine scott channel6 "action news. >> thank you katherine. this accident in philadelphia's tacony section left a passenger dead and a driver undergoing tests for dui. their vehicle crashed along the 7300 block of milner street just before 2 o'clock this morning. police say the driver was speeding and attempting to pass another car when he lost control. the vehicle left the road and hit concrete steps. the driver and a rear seat passenger were hurt but that
front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. police say everybody in the car was 22 years old. yet another story breaking right now. this time out of israel. a man stabbed nine passengers on a tel aviv bus overnight. and israeli police are calling this a terror attack. police later shot the attacker believed to be a 23-year-old palestinian after he got off that bums he's under arrest and undergoing questioning. police say four people were seriously hurt and another five sustained lighter wounds. there have been a string of attacks against israeli residents in recent months. with sunday's flash freeze still fresh in our memory penndot is not taking any chances later today. salt trucks will be gearing up around noon today. chopper 6 hd hovered over penndot trucks fanning out across the region yesterday getting the highways ready for any snow, rain or ice that is expected through this evening's rush. this, of course, after sunday morning's sudden unpredicted ice buildup triggered hundreds of slippery road conditions and left three motorists dead.

western suburbs parts of chester county, lehigh valley, reading starting to get some of it and it might even push into philadelphia, even sooner than the model is forecasting. then we get later into the 6 o'clock period and we have scattered precipitation. some of it a little bit of a sleet-rain mix in parts of south jersey, could be more rain down by the shore and more snow showers up north and west and then as we go through the evening hours, another batch of this snow comes through. now, by 11 o'clock it looks like we're starting to get towards the tail end of this and by a little after midnight, this is the 1:00 a.m. view, it's all gone but along the way there is that chance of enough of these snow showers coming through where we get some accumulation and the best chance would probably be down in south jersey and delaware with anywhere from 2 to 3 inches, maybe a couple spots going higher than that assuming we don't lose a lot of accumulation potential in the form of rain or sleet. if we get enough slow this is what we'll get. then it will be more of a 1 to 2-inch accumulation through philadelphia and most of southeastern pennsylvania. up in allentown and points north side and east only about a coating to an inch but the evening commute will be
impacted by this and anywhere across the region where you happen to see that sleet or snow, you know, we are looking at delays. it does look like a lot of that will be south anywhere overpasses and bridges will be an issue and of course secondary roads also an issue. even though we're posting mainly south for the evening commute i would really take it as i see it, you know. if you get out there and you happen to be in a position where snow showers begin slow it down and expect slow going okay. as we go through the day temperatures are going to stay rather cool. i do think there's a chance of getting up over freezing butter once we get that snow coming in, the temperatures will have a tendency to dip back tots freezing mark and below. and we do have that concern about any snow showers producing a bit of an icy or slippery coating on roads. 36 degrees is today's high. cloudy with snow arriving during the afternoon and evening as you just saw. and then tomorrow the snow is over and we get clouds giving way to at least some sun and a better high of 42. on friday, 38. saturday it looks like a day where we are going to see a
southern storm produce cloud cover and probably some precipitationly over the region and it could even abwintry mix. areas farther south probably rain. the farther north you are through the region saturday afternoon and evening you could see a mix of snow and sleet. sun returns on sunday with a high of 40. more clouds on monday and monday night into tuesday morning is the next chance of snow. and it looks fairly light at this point but it's a long way off and we have times to tweak that if -- >> tweak them downward. >> still at a head on "action news" a tennessee mother is concerned about what she says is a satanic symbol on a school bus. we'll try explain. >> a wild demolition of a home lands an upstate new york man in jail because he never told anyone he was going to do it including his wife. karen. >> i told you about an accident that just happened on i-95 near packer avenue. now we're looking in this area. we can see how traffic is really jammed on i-95 southbound. i was watching as i saw emergency crews race through

chopper 6 headed to the scene. we're hearing this vehicle ran into the guardrail. i was watching this scene a few minutes ago and i saw emergency workers kind of weaving through the traffic trying to get to the accident scene past this point on i-95 southbound at packer. it look like the accident scene may have lanes blocked or a number of them blocked has traffic is barely moving on i-95 southbound as you head towards this area chopper 6 headed to the scene right now. that's our latest accident just coming in to us. we have another new accident in norristown we're hearing it's an accident involving a pedestrian. watch for it on lafayette street at swede street. we're seeing emergency workers come to the scene right now with that new accident coming in to us in norristown. we have another accident out here in new jersey. this one in gloucester township new jersey and police tell me that this accident brought down a pole and wires so that could take a little longer to fix and may be out there a bit on tuckahoe road right near williamstown road so look for that to be a little bit of an issue out here. i want to check on another accident we had.
422 eastbound at 29. we're seeing some heavier traffic. we do still see police involved with this off to the right shoulder at this point but it was at one point blocking lanes. so now we're seeing both lanes opened but traffic still heavy. this is 422 eastbound at 29. so that accident scene traffic moving a little better past that scene right now. the other big one we're watching again is on i-95 southbound and we're saying all these -- seeing all these handful of accidents even though roads are currently dry. we're watching for areas of black ice. we have a little bit of moisture in the atmosphere, maybe a touch of fog in one or two spots too so we're watching for some periods of black ice. not seeing a lot of that right now and the precipitation you can see is still well out to our west. this fast moving alberta clipper is going to come by this afternoon and evening affect us with snow for the evening commuter, matt isn't thanks karen. something other back of a school bus angered a mother in tennessee. take a look. she believes the brake lights form a pentagram which is often used in devil worship black magic signifies other things for people who practice
wyka. the other claims she's getting death threats for speaking out. the durham school district has not commented on this. >> new this morning an elderly michigan man has been united with his son for the first time thanks to their recent discovery of a long lost letter. 81 years old tony trapani says he feels like a new father. his 61-year-old son samuel childress is in his arms for the first time. trapani's wife recently passed away so he was cleaning out one of her old filing cabinets and that's when he came across a letter it was from samuel's mother back in 1959 telling him that she had a five-year-old son and that son was his. tony's wife had intercepted the letter and slows to hide it. >> a man from orange county new york decided to get into an excavator and demolish his house. oh he never told his wife and their belonging were still inside. investigators say james rhein told them the house was in bad shape and couldn't be prepared. rhein is in trouble because he did this without a permit plus the electric water and gas were still on. the home was in the name of
