in the basement. it's a story you saw first here on "action news," we have team coverage tonight, lets go to vernon odom live at the firehouse with the latest there. >> reporter: they are trying hard to get back to life as normal here at the firehouse tonight, back to business as usual. after this morning's near death experience here it's not so easily done, the siege started at 10:30 this morning when a volunteer fireman terminated just last night entered the building and pulled a handgun taking four firefighters hostage, a swatd team arrived and began he did fire one shot into the basement wall he gave up to the s.w.a.t. team without a fight and there are no problems and all hostages are

released unharmed. not long after the surrender the hostages remained unharmed, this teenager entered the same time that the gunman did, he walked by me with no words and one of the people he held hostage opened the door for him. i was outside, the first firefighter in and then i walked inside. a marine veteran of more than 20 years this normally quiet town was shaken, they like the firefighters. >> i group here in this town and most of the people know each other, a great bunch of guys that come out quick. >> this firehouse is deeply appreciated in the section of

elkins known as lamott, whose legend was formed during the 19 and century. vernon odom, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. lets switch live to chad pradelli, at police headquarters where they are investigating, good evening chad we are learning new information about the suspect and we are not releasing his name because he has not yet been formerly charged this was a good guy that is apparently dealing with mental health issues, the suspect was shot after being terminated from a fire company they tell "action news" that the suspect is a great guy, and never saw the hostage situation coming family came to the scene after seeing reports on the tv. >> raised up and said that is the place my son works at.

>> he served in the army and his superiors tell me he worked there for about a year but was recently terminated, why they wouldn't say. >> he was upset and crying while questioning the suspect, police say he made statements that alarmed them, and was taken to the psychiatric facility for evaluation and another hostage tells me it was a frightening ordeal and a sentiment echoed by a mother. >> it was frightening, because they said the s.w.a.t. team came in and they had suspects and stuff. we didn't know if anybody started shooting or anything. >> police tell me that an evaluation will likely take 72 hours. i'm live outside of the cheltenham police department chad pradelli channel 6 "action news." >> our coverage continues on our website, you'll find photos and video from the scene as the hostage situation unfolded today and the latest on the

investigation it's all there on and now to a developing story on lower moreland where police remain on the scene where two bodies were found inside of a home, chopper 6 hd was over the scene here, the 1100 block of county lane this afternoon. investigators have not released details on the deceases or the manner of death we'll continue to follow the story here on "action news." and can you get new information by going online at the driver of a fedex truck was killed in an early morning accidents on i-78 in berks county, a train reaction crash involving a car and two tractor trailers, it happened on the westbound lanes in greenwich township, it started with the car that was disabled and partially in the left lane, one truck behind the car stopped momentarily only to be hit from behind.

and stormtracker 6 live double scan zooming in and showing this is where they are getting the snow in the poconos. we had a batch in mount harmony and mt. pocono and another batch moving in from the west. this is good news for the ski resorts, a live shot of camelback, they plan to be open until april 12th if that happens it will be the longest ski season ever, the snow is falling where they want it to at the ski resorts and a winter weather advisory is posted for the poconos until 11:00 tonight and could get 3 inches of wet snow there closer to home a few flurries reported from easton and a few flakes here and there mixing in the northwest suburbs periods of generally light rain, snowflakes mixing in the northwest suburbs it will be out of here by 10:00 and clearing after midnight and i am tracking a tradeoff for the first day of april we'll talk about that in the full accuweather forecast.

jetblue should have kept him from flying after he showed signs of flying. he had to be locked out of the cockpit and the copilot made an emergency landing. jetblue has not commented on the lawsuit lawsuit directly saying only that the crew followed proper safety procedures. we are learning more about the entero virus that sickened children last fall. ali gorman has the new findings. >> a lot of parents were worried about this virus and researchers were studying it since the outbreak and there is more evidence linking it to a new strain of the virus and sudden muscle weakness. entero virus d 68 swept the nation last fall sends dozens of children to the hospital, more

than 115 kids developed sudden muscle weakness and several childrens including eli walker from hamilton township died. and now researchers found new genetic clues to the virus showing evidence of a new strain called b 1, it has mutations that make it resemble other entero viruses including polio that also includes paralysis and a child's genetics play a role. in our area five children were seen at the childrens hospital for sudden muscle weakness with changes to their spine. today all have improved but none have fully recovered. >> obviously more work needs to be done to figure out how to protect kids from these severe complications, they are typically seen in the summer and fall and unfortunately we could see this strain entero virus d

up with 1 to 3 slushy inches and heavy precipitation moving towards slatington, allentown don't be surprised if you see snow but it will not be accumulating there. temperature-wise, what a different, it's 63 in dover right now it's warm, 26 colder in allentown and 37 in philadelphia and between 54 and 55 and millville 58 and trenton 44 degrees, we are saying good-bye to march 2014, good-bye and good riddance it's cold and snowy, temperatures running a whopping 4.4 degrees below normal, we have a foot of snow, we have to go back to march 19 93, two years ago, 12.4 inches and that came mainly from the super storm of 1993, satellite 6

driver slams a car to the front door of a nail salon in northeast philadelphia and a new twist in the case of this california woman that says she was kidnapped, a 15 page manifesto explaining the crime allegedly from the abductors point of view and a firestorm in indiana, the governor plans to fix the state's new controversial law. tragedy at a salon in northeast philadelphia one person is dead after being struck and killed in a crash when a car came to rest in the middle of a nail salon. dann cuellar is live with the latest. >> reporter: rick and monica construction crews are on the scene here trying to repair the considerable damage to the nail salon. they never saw it when it crashed through the wall in what appears to be an accident. >> the devastating scene at cindy's nail salon shortly after

he vows to fix the freedom of reestablish act that people say it protects business owners allowing them to turn away gays and lesbians and other customers if they feel serving them infringes on their religionus beliefs. he says that language in the law will be changed to reflect that discrimination would not be allowed. >> it's helpful to move legislation this weeks that make its clear that this law does not let businesses a right to deny service to anyone. this ahead of the college basketball tournament in indianapolis this weekend, they are considering their long-term investment there if changes are not made to this law. there is more on the

the west-southwest to the east-northeast and a wet drive across much of the area and as you lift to the north you encounter the cold winter like air and switching over to that wet snow coating the grown in spots and several inches of snow on the ground in the poconos and lake harmony and even near easton and hampton seeing a mix going on. we take a look at the lion that was roaring when we began this month with without weather and snow on march 1st and the last day of march we are dealing with rain and cold again and we look at the march temperatures and the month as a whole over the last two years back in 2012, it was summer like, 9 degrees above normal for march of 2012 and we made up for it the last three years, winter lags with temperatures way below average, 4.4 below average, one of those years yet again three years in a row, we go from winter feeling

and jumping into summer. as we look at the numbers, 44 in trenton, 36 in allentown and freezing in the poconos, a big jump to the south and dover coming in at 63 degrees, the clipper system weak in an exception because it has moisture with it. and a few more hours the skies clear for the remainor of the overnight and skies clear after midnight temperatures drop below freezing in much of the area and upper 20s in the lehigh valley and any moisture can harden up a bit on the sidewalks and grassy surfaces and wednesday high pressure comes in 52 degrees, still cool for april with the northwesterly wind. these are the best days in fact, the best days of 2015 with a southerly wind on thursday. 7 degrees above average, topping out at 66 degrees, the exclusive
