on this saturday, september 12 here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." an overturned tractor-trailer is wreaking havoc for commuters in south jersey. prosecutors say they will drop a case against a temple university professors accused of spying. keep the umbrella handy we could see more storms, first though, chris sowers has the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. we don't have time for weather, we have miss america this weekend. they have enough to worry about its going to be a bad hair day. >> reporter: bad hair day, tomorrow is better, we dry thinks out in terms of the humidity. maybe we see sunshine late in the day. there's the view right now looking over the ben franklin bridge. we have clear conditions for the most part, but clouds are on the increase out of the southwest.
temperatures will cool down with the incoming cloud covered and the rain that is expected later on. trenton, 62 degrees, allentown in the 50s this morning. poconos feels nice up there. 53. lancaster, 58. millville, 63. cape may, ten better showing 73. satellite and radar we have another frontal system to the west an area of low pressure developing here, both will pull off to the northeast during the course of the day. you can see thunderstorms starting to flow up here with the area of low pressure and the storm prediction center has this entire area from raleigh through richmond, washington, d.c. and baltimore into south jersey and delaware under the risk of a severe thunderstorm. everybody else expected to see scattered showers with the thunderstorm here or there. 72 degrees by 9:00 a.m. lunchtime, 80 degrees we're completely cloudy. you can see the showers and storms increase by the first part of the afternoon, highs around 80 degrees. i'll talk built isolated severe
weather threat and the cooler temperatures in the 07 day when i see you in just a few minutes. >> a tractor-trailer crash is causing trouble on 295 in camden. the truck overturned to exit 27 to route 76 in belmawr. the wreckage is blocking all northbound lanes. fuel from the big rig leaked on the road. crews have to clean that up and unload the fuel before they can upright the tractor-trailer. steer clear of 295 northbound in belmawr, camden county. the driver is okay. a chester police officer injured in a hit-and-run is hospitalized at crozer-chester medical center. authorities are searching for the driver who hit him. the officer's motorcycle was hit at east 4th and morton in chester. a driver made an illegal left turn clipping him when hoffman fell off.
witnesses say the suspect was driving a late-model pontiac grand prix with a green hood and bumper. >> when the bike goes down and goes 30, ho feet and the officer goes down, you have to know what's happening. >> we're told the officer is conscious alert and speaking with doctors. if you have a tip on the suspect or the car involved, call police. the search is officially over for the still missing pilot whose plane crashed seven miles off the coast of atlantic city. dr. michael moir was flying from michigan to atlantic city when his plane crashed. ess more than 40 years of flying experience. the coast guard spent 22 hours and searched 83 square miles before spending their efforts. federal prosecutors will drop their case against a temple
university physics professor. who was accused of scheming to provide secret technology to china where he was born. after reviewing e-mails and talking to they realize it was about a device he invented. a judge must formally drop the charges. graham spanner will be traveling overseas. he must temporarily return his passport if he wants to go over seas. he is accused of covering a child sex abuse complaint against former football coach jerry sandusky. tributes and moments of silence were held here in our area, new york and across the
nation as americans remembered the lives lost 14 years ago. yesterday marked the anniversary of the september 11 ray tacks. sharrie williams takes a look at how the victims were honored. >> reporter: it's been 14 years, but for many, the pain has not gotten better. yet these family members bear the grief and stands strong in record nicks of the love and lives they lost september 11, 2001. >> it's an opportunity to get closure and be with everybody who has gone through the same things we have. >> reporter: in new york city, the scene was transformed into a sacred ground a final resting place for some victims who were never found or identified. president obama stepped out of the white house to over a moment of the -- observe a moment.

two years of negotiations led to the arrangement where they will restructure $60 million in debt and the please touch museum will have to raise $10 million by march of next year. a rare event for the postal service when pope francis arrives in two weeks for the world meeting of families. there will be no mail delivery on saturday september 26 at least for those not in the restricted festival grounds, 19104, 19107, 19130, and 19122 will not receive mail on that day. the postal service will remove the blue selection boxes in those neighborhoods they will be removed thursday september 24 and reinstalled sunday

lightning strikes are being recorded. it's a press active cluster of thunderstorms. that's the actual low pressure that will make it toward the delaware valley by the afternoon. here's the front right here in the process of clearing the ohio and tennessee valley pushing into the eastern seaboard. once we get past that it's smooth sailing from sunday evening on, monday, tuesday, wednesday, look really, really nice as a huge canadian high pressure system sets up shop and clears everything out and cools us down. as a matter of fact we have some of the coolest air on the way monday and tuesday afternoon. future tracker 6, cloudy skies throughout the day. increasing humidity levels that will help to trigger a few showers and storms. if you have plans outdoors today. it's probably dry up until 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. and then we'll start to see the scattered showers and storms developing especially across south jersey and delaware that will continue throughout the evening hours up until maybe midnight or so.
mainly cloudy overnight tonight, and muggy maybe a leftover shower and tomorrow we'll go sunshine to start, clouds quickly increasing again there could one or two areas that see a pop-up shower, but sunday is not looking like too much of a big deal. it's later this afternoon we see the drenching downpours. scattered storms, high probability of seeing lightening strikes and heavy drenching downpours. maybe the storms produce wind gusts, hail and tornado that threat looks low. it's the mainly the drenching downpours that we are concerned about. especially if they develop across areas that saw thursday's weather around the philadelphia airport western camden and gloucester county. mostly cloudy, an afternoon thunderstorm likely. millville, 81. philadelphia, 79. atlantic city, 80 degrees. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 80 degrees this afternoon, with hit or miss showers or storms by afternoon. 75 sunday, cooler conditions by afternoon with lowering humidity

richmond, virginia at this hour, closing in on washington, d.c. and ballot are -- baltimore. if you have plans for the first part of the day you should be okay. after 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. that's when the wet weather pulls in. 72 degrees by 9:00 a.m. lunchtime, 80 degrees and some of the wet weather moves in by 3:00 p.m. this afternoon with highs closing in again on the 80-degree mark. i'll talk about the timing of this, and i will have the correspond numbers in the seven day eva. >> new this morning, a tractor-trailer crash is causing trouble on 295 in camden camden county. the truck overturned in belmawr early this morning. the driver wasn't hurt, but the wreck is blocking all northbound lanes. fuel leaked on the road so crews
have to clean that up and unload the fuel all before they can begin to upright the tractor-trailer. the best bet at this hour is to steer clear of 295 northbound in belmawr, camden county. a woman stabbed another woman during an argument in north philadelphia. police say the two women were arguing inside a home on the 2300 block of 20th street. during the fight, one woman pulled out a knife and stabbed the other woman in the face, shoulder and back. she also listed in serious condition at temple university hospital, the other women fled on foot. we are learning information about a suspicious device that led to storm tracker 6 3hd live wayses in center city. officials say security officers from jefferson hospital noticed the device at the intersection of 11th and locust before 11:00 p.m. police and the bomb squad responded they blocked a 3 block area and evacuated several
businesses. it was a pressure cooker. the police are trying to determine whether it was left there intentionally or by accident. a manhunt is underway fewer a driver who hit a chester county police officer on motorcycle and kept going. police are asking for your help in the search for the driver. the officer daniel hoffman is expected to make a fuel recovery. "action news" reporter, jeff chirico explains the car involved has distinct features. >> reporter: chopper 6 over #th and morton as rescue crews respond to the call of an injured police officer. the officer was riding his motorcycle when the driver made an illegal left turn clipped him and fell off. the bike kept going hit an suv. the police chief said the hit-and-run driver knows what he
or she did. >> when the bike goes down and goes 30, 40 feet and the officer goes down, you have to know what's happening. >> reporter: police shut down the intersection for two hours as detectives investigated. the bike was later towed away. meanwhile, the police is asking for the public's help in finding a suspect. the car was described as a late model burgundy pontiac grand prix with a green hood trunk or bumper. >> make it easier on everybody especially them if they do the responsible thing. our police officers are putting their life on the line everyday this is a perfect example of what they have to face when they are out there. >> reporter: the officer was banged up in the crash, has scrapes and bumps and bruises, but expected to make a full recovery. he spent the night at crozer-chester medical center
for observation. jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> the investigation continues this morning after a man was killed during an fbi raid in delaware county. heavily armed agents raided a chester home yesterday morning and shot a man inside. it all stemmed from a warrant for child pornography. the fbi said the suspect on highland avenue pulled a gun and shots were exchanged. no agents were hit. the fbi is not identifying the suspect. shocked neighbors said they never saw it coming. said the man was nice and live there with his parents for more than 20 years. police arrested a man who allegedly killed a pregnant woman one year ago. marquees martin opened fire at 20th and knee droa. nedro. his alleged target was the fiance. william's fiance survived the attack, but she and her unborn
baby were killed. another concerned is joining the race for u.s. senate in pennsylvania. john fedderman is running for the democratic nomination for pat toomey's u.s. senate seat next year. former congressman joe sestak and katie ma -- mcgintsy are both seeking the nomination. former governor rick perry who was seeking the presidential can -- candidacy is dropping out of the race. s war chest was running dry and failed to make the prime time debates. justice department said hillary clinton had the right to delete her e-mails. cruising the private e-mail
server was the wrong choice. deleting the e-mails were not subject to the federal records law. poem france will arrive in philadelphia in two weeks. the ground work is being laid literally for the pontiff's arrival. workers were busy constructing the site for the papal alter. pope francis will celebrate mass there. meanwhile, there's space at hotels in philadelphia for the weekend of the pope's visit. mayor nutter would not say the city overestimated demand only that people are still making plans. he walked the streets of center city yesterday pressing the flesh in his role always cheerleader in -- as cheerleader in chief. the philadelphia hotel association said one-third of the rooms are still available and some hotels are reporting pick up in the last week.
officials in delaware laid out plans to keep people moving through wilmington the weekend pope francis is in town. amtrak and the septa run from wilmington to the 30th street station if in philadelphia. amtrak is leasing commuter trains to keep up with the demand and calling in extra help in case anything goes wrong. >> there's staffing coming in the event we have a problem we'll have quick response times to keep everybody moving to get them to the events on time. >> reporter: delaware officials said 5800 parking spots will be available around the wilmington station, not all parking will be free, though. they encourage people to car pool to keep traffic problems around the train station to a minimum. soon as information is unveiled we'll tweet it out on our special account dedicated to the poim -- papal visit.

72 degrees in atlantic city. dewpoint 69. the winds down the shore are calm. 6 # in atlantic city at the airport. 70 in philadelphia. allentown, 59. poconos 53. millville, 63 degrees. 9 dewpoints are what we call slightly humid in the low 60s they will climb into this category this afternoon. the temperatures will not be all that warm so it will i will not be too terrible. you'll notice the increase in humidity you will notice the increase in clouds and the showers and thunderstorms pull in by 23:00 p.m. the day as a whole is not lost. if you have plans until 2:00 p.m., it will be okay. cooler conditions pull in afterwards, there's the view on the water vapor image. you can see the huge area an upper level trough or pocket of cold air diving across the
nation, great plains and great lakes. these are 30s in minnesota and u-p of michigan in the 0s. 45 for busy -- bismarck. this air will push east and modified it will be cool enough to drop our high temperatures in the mid 70s. by the time we get into tomorrow afternoon and monday. it will feel feel more like fall. future tracker showing the morning is dry, 1:00 p.m. we start to see moisture coming in off the ocean. one or two showers may develop. heavy are thunderstorms by 3 or 4:00 p.m. mainly across interior sections of south jersey and delaware. we'll see more activity north and west. although the model is not showing it right now. if you're out across the pottstown reading or allentown areas you'll see wet weather there, as well. the day as a whole is not completely lost.
