the 50's and 60's but you can see we're in store for lots of sunshine, a little cloud cover sweeping through overnight generally speaking high pressure still in control to our south and we're he going to get a bit more of a turn out of the southwest and winds today and that's going to help raise our temperatures a little bit. 64 degrees currently at philadelphia. just 53 he in allentown. 55 degrees in reading. 60 in trenton. 70 on the nose in cape may. as we head out the door this morning looks like we stay in the low 60's between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock under clear skies. it will be on the comfortable side. and as we take a look at the afternoon it gets warm. 83 degrees by noon. 86 by 3 o'clock and your high today of 87 will probably be a little late in the afternoon say about 3:30 or 4:00 before we slide to 83 by 6:00. we have one change coming up in the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast and it concerns sunday, a pretty big day around here. >> yeah. >> karen rogers i'll have details coming up. >> all right. all eyes on that one. now we switch to our commute. looking live at the schuylkill expressway here at belmont, that's your eastbound traffic headed towards center city. camera shaking a little bit. we had crews out there

blocking the left lane but we can see that was just cleared and traffic there moving a bit better. here we are live on the roosevelt boulevard. that's your southbound traffic headed towards the schuylkill. no problems just here but north of here both ways between rhawn and strahle we've got construction in the express lanes and that will still be out there for about another hour. we've got a problem here montgomery county. there's a sandbag sitting in the middle of the roadway here, 422 eastbound approaching royersford so watch for people kind of swerving around there. on the turnpike we have restrictions because of construction here. it's on the turnpike westbound approaching willow grove and eastbound near bensalem blocking the right lane so few different crews out there right now. give yourself a little extra time as you're heading out with those crews still hard at work, matt and tam. >> we will. thank you karen. well, it's beginning to look a lot like a pope is coming. everywhere you go, pope francis arrives in 10 days and the increased security in center city is apparent. >> reporter: hi, matt, yeah a lot of visitors coming to town next week. of course one of those visitors is the pope, a very important visitor so there's a lot of preparations under way around the city. you'll see them around the city but of course here along the parkway for the papal mass and festival of families, as you take a look at eakins oval you can see that equipment assetup is under way. organizers want to make sure everyone stays safe so of course park security is a very serious part of the preparations. >> you can't live in fear. i'm not afraid. i'm looking forward to seeing the pope. >> reporter: the pope's visit has drawn people to philadelphia from all over the world. part of the preparations for the large crowds includes security measures. last night philadelphia maintenance crews and secret service were out along ben franklin parkway securing manhole covers and the access paths on light fixtures. some say they're concentrating on the significance of the event, not on any potential threat. >> we're going to be worshiping in spirit and truth

and god will take away all of the evil and wrongdoing and any of that. i'm not fearful of that. >> reporter: when the pope speaks in front of independence hall, snipers will be positioned on nearby rooftops, fences will go up along the parkway. plainclothes officers and high tech detection devices will work behind the scenes. ticketed audiences will have to pass through metal detectors. some see this as today's reality adding it won't stop them if coming. >> i remember as a child with pope john paul and so i want my daughter to experience it as well. >> reporter: no fears? >> tiny bit but no. >> reporter: and of course part of the security measures are going to be clearing the streets of your cars and in certain zones. we'll tell you about that coming up at 5:30. we're live along the parkway, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> see you then katherine. as more information about the papal visit is revealed you can go to any

time. we have a list of highway and road closures, items prohibited from the francis festival grounds and more on how you can see the pope during his two scheduled parades. >> it is 5:05. from our delaware news room, happening today police are set to release more details on the arrest made in the death of a recent temple law school graduate. shazim uppal's body was discovered last month in the parking lot of a nursing home. investigators say they discovered a substantial amount of marijuana in his car. the suspect was not identified yesterday but police may release more details later today at a news conference in new castle. and police in chester are still looking for the driver who led them on a two-state chase. the suspect abandoned car was found in the 1200 block of b street in wilmington yesterday afternoon. the chase started in chester. it ended when officers lost sight of the car in delaware. police have not told us why they were pursuing the man in the first place. >> and now to politics. the stage is set for the

second gop presidential debate. the large republican field is still being led by donald trump. now, as the candidates geared up for battle, trump spent yesterday on a battleship in los angeles. he he delivered a speech on the u.s.s. iowa about protecting the homeland. meanwhile there are new attacks against the real estate mogul. but it seems that ben carson is gain something ground in the polls. there is a 13-point difference according to this week's abc news and washington post poll but a new cbs new york times poll has them at a virtual tie. now, jeb bush who is struggling in the polls is trying to make an appeal to hispanics but many believe regardless of the candidate's differences on issues, one name will be mentioned over and over, ronald reagan. of course tonight's debate is at the reagan presidential library with the 11 leading candidates including new jersey governor chris christie at 8:00 p.m., a debate with the lower polling candidates starts at 6:00. should be interesting, matt. >> always is. thanks, erin. gop debate coming up a at 7:00 a.m. dozens of syrian refugees reached the croatian border. hungary had closed its border with syria and left thousands stranded. a syrian family is embarking on a new life here in pennsylvania. they fled their war torn home for the u.s. and arrived in scranton yesterday. catholic social services helped to bring the family to the keystone state. and happening today, a special job fair for veterans. a career fair will take place aboard the battleship new jersey in camden from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the philly veterans career fair is offering more than 2,000 job openings and 40 employers are expected to attend. veterans who plan on attending should preregister for the free event and i have tweeted out a link where you can register. >> let's turn to dave murphy and talk about accuweather. yesterday a beauty. let's have more of that. >> how about, hm? >> storm tracker6 live double scan slows that you we are dry. stepping outside, stars are

out and we're getting ready for the sun to come up over the horizon later on and camera is not bouncing much as the winds are on the light side this morning. 64 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia, still in the low to mid-50's in allentown and reading. 58 in wilmington. up to 60 in trenton. 52 in millville and cape may running ahead of the pack again this morning at about 70 degrees. maybe a light jacket on the way out the door but honestly with light winds it doesn't feel all that badly. once again you'll need your sunglasses heading out on the highways and by ways. just a little bit of overnight cloud cover is dissipating and like the last couple of days we expect lots of sunshine. up in the lehigh valley lots of sun, warm this afternoon, 86 degrees. adding three or 4 degrees to where we wound up yesterday afternoon. same story is the shore. instead of the upper 70's, most shore spots will get up into the low 80's. very similar, though, mostly sunny, pleasant, not all that windy and in philadelphia we'll go for a high of 87. that's also about four or 5 degrees above where we were yesterday up and down the i-95 corridor. lots of sun, pleasant

conditions, winds out of the southwest at four to 8 miles per hour. still not all that humid. 63 degrees by 8 o'clock. 78 by 11 o'clock. so, you can see how quickly we climb into the upper 70's. and then we spend most of the afternoon in the mid to upper 80's. 85 by 2 o'clock. your high of 87 probably around 3:30 or 4 o'clock and then back to 85 by 5 o'clock. if you're headed to the phillies this evening, it's a nice night for baseball. probably the best of the last three. 78 degrees for the first pitch and in the ninth inning still comfortable skate degrees, maybe a jacket towards the later innings will help you out as the phillies wrap up that series with the nationals. tomorrow still nice and warm. high pressure continuing to slide to our south and we'll get more of a southwesterly flow that will keep us under the sun and also keep us very warm. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, the beat goes on today. 87 degrees, sunny and warm, a nice afternoon. another 87 tomorrow and we're going to keep it going on friday with mostly sunny skies and a high of 86. saturday's also looking

beautiful. it looks like we'll get sun for the most part with some occasional clouds and another high up around 87. now, we're still looking for a frontal boundary to drop through on sunday and that's going to drop that high temperature to 81. we'll also see more clouds. but at this point that front is really looking moisture starved and while we he will allow for a spotty pop-up shower zone i think it's going to be mainly dry and things are improving for eagles fans and union fans who have plans to be outside in the afternoon and evening respectively. and then on monday, 76 degrees, a little cooler and a spotty stray shower here or there. we could use the rain but at this point it doesn't look like there's going to be much on sunday or monday and sunday of course we got a lot of stuff going on. >> so we'll just put it off. thank you david. 5:10 now. developing overnight, flash floods out west are washing families to their deaths. while several others are still missing. >> new disturbing series in the investigation of a northern illinois officer's death. karen. >> the ramp from i-95 northbound to cottman is

your high will be 87. it's 5:13, 65 degrees right now. >> getting a little suburban here with karen rogers. >> time to get suburban, that's right 'cause you have to wake up a little earlier sometimes in the suburbs to get out and get going to work so let's look live in lionville. mostly 'cause i just like saying that. here in chester county route 100 at 113 the kind of a quiet scene right here. good shot of the roads, we're nice and clear, no weather related problems really impacting you and very light volume. it's early yet. you're coming down from phoenixville, chester springs you're looking pretty good. we see penndot out there with the arrow board but no big problems right here right now. let's go over to montgomery county. we've got a problem here with the sandbag that had been stuck on the road but it has since cleared, someone picked it up and moved it off to the side so 422 eastbound approaching royersford, no problems right there. in souderton montgomery county main street and chestnut street, we've got a new accident just coming in to us right here and another one that's in horsham on diane avenue at saint davids place so a couple early morning accidents. in ocean township in new jersey, we've got this downed

pole and police are on hand. they're directing traffic around the scene. route nine is closed still at 554. you can use the garden state parkway as your alternate for that one. with route nine being shut down that's kind of a big deal in that area. on your commuter traffic report we found someone talking about the construction here on the turnpike southbound past exit three. so watch for that. it's cruising pete that told us about that that one. don't forget to be a part of our 6abc team when you join waze so you can be a member of our commuter traffic report. 10-mile visibility through most of the region, just a touch of fog in reading, 4-mile visibility there. a warmup. even warmer than yesterday, 87 for your high matt and tam. >> thank you karen. developing right now, searchers will continue sifting through muddy waters in southern utah today for any survivors of flash flooding. the death toll stands at 16 right now and the area is bracing for more intense rain. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is following this one

from the satellite center. erin. >> reporter: more search crews arrived in hildale overnight including the national guard. the focus is to try to find that last missing person and of course hopefully bring some closure to the many lives devastated by these floods. now, search and rescue teams trudged through muddy streams. now, with more rain in the forecast as you said and many more flood waters, could cause crews to suspend the search in hildale. most in this community are members of the flds church a polygamist sect and followers of warren jeffs. only one person is still missing out of 16 women and children who were in two vehicles which were smashed by a wall of water on monday. three people survived, all of them children. the youngest victim in monday's flooding is thought to be just four years old. now, another search continues in utah's zion national park where flash floods killed four hikers,

three are still missing. just a devastating situation out west. for now we're live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn, channel6 "action news." tam. >> erin thank you. new details are coming out more than two weeks after the shooting death of a police officer in northern illinois. sources say authorities are now also investigating the possibility that lieutenant joe gliniewicz took his own life and made it look like someone killed him. published reports say multiple sources are telling reporters this question of suicide is being considered in addition to homicide. earlier this month the fox lake officer radioed police to tell them that he was on foot pursuit. they later found the officer dead. federal agents have since ended or scaled back their search for the suspects. >> the phillies hope to turn things around as they wrap up their series with the nationals tonight at the bank. yesterday a washington star stole the show and the keys to the phanatic's four-wheeler. i'm not kidding about that. nats star bryce harper was the thief. he grabbed the keys to the

vehicle and to the scoreboard driving in all four runs for washington. harper has a national league leading 39 homers on the season, seven of them were against the phillies. washington wins it four to nothing. eagles quarterback sam bradford and the rest of the team have a short week to practice for week two. they face the cowboys on sunday afternoon in their home opener at lincoln financial field. coach chip kelly says many of the eagles' problems presented in their season opening loss to the falcons are correctable. >> that's good news. 5:18. a new report is sounding the alarm about kids and how much fast food they still eat. >> two luxury cars are caught on video racing through the streets of beverly hills and as it turns out the drivers may not even be able to get into trouble.

60's in philadelphia. some suburbs starting out in the 50's. 83 by noon and then by 3 o'clock, 86 with a high of 87 that will probably hit around 3:30 or 4:00 this afternoon. low humidity, lots of sunshine, light winds. and if you're headed to the airport this morning, we're hoping for all green aircraft on the big board and that's what we've got from top to bottom. and no rain reported in any of our most commonly traveled destinations, so clear sailing from philadelphia international airport this morning, matt. >> we like clear sailing. thank you, david. childhood obesity is a major concern and a new report is sounding the alarm finding that a third of kids make fast food a daily choice. that's about the same as it was back in the 1990's. of course before the widespread push for people especially kids to try to eat healthier. scientists say popular choices like french fries and pizza to kids being overweight. in fact a growing number of children develop diseases that we once only saw in middle aged people like high blood pressure and type two diabetes. >> 5:22 is the time. up next in the morning buzz,

>> happening today, teachers in seattle will finally head back to the classroom. a new contract agreement ends their strike which had held up the start of a new school year. a new tentative agreement was reached last night. the teachers went on strike last week which canceled the first day of school for more than 53,000 students. the union says the new agreement addresses a number of sticking points. kids will go back to school
