emergency for new jersey, because of a coastal storm that could cause flooding, and because of hurricane joaquin. governor christie made the emergency declaration a short time ago, now the region is dealing with almost non-stop rain. >> we are not quite yet sure if this had be a single punch or double punch, there is no question that there is a single punch that starts this evening and there will be wins of 75 to 80 miles per hour and everybody needs to be prepared for that. >> the governor added he would not hesitate to add evacuation as long the coast if the situation worsens. the worst round of weather already here, sky 6 hd showing us a dreary picture of the center city skyline behind us.
>> and for more on that lets get to meteorologist, karen rogers, in for david murphy, she is watching stormtracker 6 live double scan at the big board. >> the weather service has posted a coastal flood warning, a warning in effect for this region until 6:00 friday morning, and that is not because of the heavy rain but because of the on shore flow, the push of water, we expect to see wave heights up to 12 feet because of this, and it's a big problem, and the lighter blue, the coastal flood watch extends into sunday, this has nothing to do with the hurricane just the setup of the on shore flow, and add other concerns on to that and that is why we have so many developments here, the current rain is not that bad, some rain in the region in the western suburbs, just another rainy, chilly day, this is not flooding rain, but the temperature is a big switch for you and you need
to dress for it and prepare for it. it's only 60 degrees and some areas it's as much as 23 degrees cooler than yesterday, a big change in 24 hours and setting us up for a raw, windy day tomorrow. here is the satellite of hurricane joaquin, near the eye, we have hurricane force winds that extend out from here 45 miles per hour and tropical storm force winds that extend out 140 miles per hour, this is a strong storm, a powerful storm, 125 miles per hour sustained winds, once it gets to 130 it's a category four hurricane and it's heading up the east coast, does it go up or pull out to sea or make landfall on the east coast, the new model runs keep coming and we'll give you the latest on the track and how it can impact us. >> as karen just mentioned,
joaquin is a powerful category three storm, to put that into perspective that is the same strength of hurricane katrina when it hit the gulf coast. and preparations are going on up and down the east coast. >> reporter: this spot we are standing on atlantic avenue is prone to flooding and people around here are expecting to see more of it in the coming days and tides are running high recently and flooding is a concern as the storms approach. >> we just got over sandy like three years ago. >> with storms this weekend and worries in atlantic city as to what is heading our way. >> i am scared to death, i own a property and that is where the bay is. >> the city is making preparations and so have residents.

and warnings, you can get constant updates by following the accuweather team on social media. turning to other news, police in delaware county are looking for a car involved in a deadly pedestrian accident, police say that the man was struck by to vehicles just after 7:00, one driver stopped to help the victim and the other took off believed to be driving a black chevy impala, the man died at the scene. from our delaware newsroom, police arrested a couple wanted in a string of robberies, christine brown and kevin whorl, were charged with three robberies, and police believe they are behind holdups at a dunkin' donuts, a subway and td bank. both are held in lieu of bond in georgetown. and chopper 6 hd was over the scene of a tanker truck that
caught fire on a busy stretch of highway on the off ramp of 95 and route 1 at 10:30 last night. the big truck and tires were engulfed in flames, firefighters were able to extinguish the flames with foam. there is no word on the driver's condition. a lehigh valley man is hospitalized after trying to save his girlfriend from getting hit by a drunk driver, she and her boyfriend were out on a date in bethlehem over the weekend, they were crossing the street to head home when a red pickup truck came barrelling toward them and he moved her out of way and was struck in the process and is in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury and fractures to the neck, back and legs. >> i myself physically don't leave that scene.

well, we await what hurricane joaquin will bring us they are dealing with snow in fairbanks, alaska, enough fell that classes were canceled today. 7,000 homes and businesses were without power due to the storm. karen rogers is here with the forecast, a lot could happen before we get to the weekend. >> it's a strong hurricane, it will be a category four hurricane, and we need to track its every move, lets look at double scan live radar around the area, we have rain around and you can see it on double scan, we'll go tighter to that and i'm picking up the areas of yellow, you can see who is getting it and lets go closer to that in our western suburbs, you are getting it in coatesville and malvern, pulling up to the north and east and a shower in media, and norristown there. lets go outside and see what is looks like, lots of clouds up above and lets check the numbers for you right now, here is what
to expect, a chill quirain coming your way, tomorrow even worse than today, with heavier rain and cooler temperatures, coastal flooding and this could be moderate to major, that starts today and lasts through sunday, the coastal flood watch lasts through sun morning, on top of all of that we are tracking a major hurricane, hurricane joaquin, a lot of issues, i think in the end the coastal flooding will be more impactful to us than the hurricane. first temperatures are 60 in philadelphia, and cool and cloudy and 58 in millville and 56 in mt. pocono and satellite 6 along with action radar showing lots of clouds and it's just a miserable day, with clouds and some rain. lets show you what it looks like through the day, clouds stick with us and rain at 3:00 and at 5:00 p.m. temperatures holding and 62 at 3:00 and 9:00 p.m. 61
and chilly in the overnight hours and getting down to 51, it looks like the heavier rain is holding off a bit. the morning drive, might be okay, you see the periods of rain coming in expecting an inch to two inches of rain, spots at 9:30, heavy rain moving through the area, and not really the heavy rain that is causing the big flooding concerns at the coast, it's the addition of this push on floor, the northeasterly flow pulling up the water on the coast. that is a real issue for us that starts with high tide. now we get to hurricane joaquin, 128 miles per hour winds, a category three hurricane and once it gets to 130 it's a category four, and then we watch its track carefully, this is monat 8:00 a.m., a category one hurricane off the coast of
carolina, and this is tuesday at 8:00 a.m., a tropical storm off our cove line heading up towards new york, but the changes are important with this track, when i when to back it looks leak it would hit raleigh, and then i woke up at 2:00 a.m. it looked closer to us in the eastern q d quadrant and that would be really bad and now it's pulling to the east and one model had it pulling to the east all along. the spaghetti plot models showing it's far out there already. friday into saturday, gusts to 55 miles per hour at the shore a threat of 1 to 3 inches of rain and sunday to tuesday, watching hurricane joaquin a quick look at your forecast showing that today we have 64 for your high and windy with a chilly rain and 55 for your high tomorrow, and it's a nasty day tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. cloudy and windy and by monday
