passengers to get to the airport really early. trish hartman is live at philadelphia international with the latest. good morning, trish. >> reporter: good morning, tam, southwest airlines is asking passengers to arrive two hours early because of the flights because of the technical issues after dealing with the handwritten boarding passes and long lines from yesterday. southwest representative said a technology glitch started sunday that meant 450 flights were delayed. southwest officials have not said what caused the problem or when they expect the problem to be fixed. but they say there's no indication the problem is the result of hacking. in the meantime, computers and reservations centers and the mobile apps are affected. we're outside terminal e where you would check in for your southwest flight. two hour early southwest

representatives are asking you to arrive for your flight if you're flying southwest this morning. as of yesterday the self check in was working at philadelphia international airport. passengers are encouraged to print your boarding passes at home that will save time. if you're checking luggage use a self service kiosk when you arrive. that will save you time, as well. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> a former firefighter was killed when his lawnmower caught fire and burned him to death. it happened in springfield township, burlington county. roger lippincot was mowing his lawn, the mother caught fire and he was killed by smoke and flames. >> happening today a pennsylvania state senator goes before a judge in allentown. lehigh valley republican pat brown will be arraigned on charges connected to a

could see scattered frost in spots. >> first frost. >> that's early. >> reporter: not really that early. it's the middle of october. >> new this morning, united airlines flight 869 is back on track to hong kong. the plane took off saturday but was forced to return one-third into the flight because the pilots realized there was not enough fuel to make the trip. they turned back off the alaskan coastline. >> there was a fuel problem that apparently the airplane was using more fuel than usual, and they were not sure we were going to make it all the way to hong kong. they decided to go back. they inspected the aircraft for a fuel leak. they are still investigating what went wrong.

the cost of life teams to go up, but people on social security may not see an increase in benefits for the coming year. there's little chance of an increase because of low inflation. we'll get the final numbers when consumer index numbers are released. this is the third time in 40 years there hadn't been this kind of increase. last week was a good week for the markets. all major stock indeetionz -- indices were up on friday. futures are pointing to a higher open. many craft brew makers are seeking exemption from the water restrictions. it takes seven gallons of water to make a gallon of beer. 7-eleven is giving free coffee to customers all this week. in order to get the deal you have to use the free 7-eleven

expect lighter volume on the roads today with it being columbus day and many people having off. this is 202, crews are out. this is near 401. traffic is getting by, it's not causing much of a problem. not too bad. this accident at game farm road and smith road. watch for crews on the scene with this early morning accident. ben franklin bridge no problems, going out of the city, you have the right lane blocked, it's early, light volume not causing many issues out there. we have construction on the boulevard between rhawn and woodward blocking the inner drive.

decide if the officers face any criminal charges. a picture of a detroit police officer helping a young crash victim is getting attention across the country. it shows joe tucker stopping and comforting the victim of the crash. >> neighbors were coming to the other children. the young man was sort of alone. he was crying and nervous, so i laid down next to him. >> he helped me on the ground, he let me play with his iphone. >> lieutenant tucker was off duty when he stopped to help. he is a 22 year veteran of the detroit police department. >> police in northeast philadelphia are investigating a crash that sent a mother and two children to the hospital overnight. the details are coming up at 5:00. >> students at a college in arizona talk about the deadly shooting on campus.

another nice one on tap. a survivor of the arizona university is talking about the ordeal. police say freshman stephen jones opened fire with a 40 caliber gun first shooting his three fraternity friends. >> i heard gun shots i saw them drop to the ground. i was holding my friend and saw all the blood, i was traumatized by the situation. >> he shot him in the neck. the friend he was holding died. the other two are in the hospital. jones is under arrest. he said he fired the shots because the victim struck him in the face and began chasing him. the most wanted man in the u.s. and mexico is a halloween

costume. joaquin "el chapo" guzman escaped from prison back in july. 34 people linked to the escape has been arrested. but they did not say if they are getting closer to catching the drug lord himself. the costume is popular in part as a political statement, mexicans will wear it to thumb their nose at government and country where people like joaquin "el chapo" guzman getaway with great crimes with no exiewnt. exiewnt -- i impunity. a man may dayed coast guard about being adrift in the pacific. coast guard went out and saved him. it's important to carry survival equipment on your boat in case of emergency.
